I'm creating this thread because it's not an isp specific topic and as the topic suggests, it about consumer choices.

With the 6 wireless broadband providers today, consumers should be smart when choosing your right isp.

Here are a few tips to help you choose:

1) Always go with packages and promotions with no commitments and contracts

2) Do a survey around your area and see which provider your neighbor mainly uses. Go for the one which is the least talk about and unheard of but you know they are servicing in your area.
It pays to be one of the first newbies because you'll most likely get full speed.

-My strategy is like this: if all my neighbours jump to P1 from Streamyx and boast how much faster speeds they are getting I'll do the opposite way around and consider taking Streamyx instead when I see P1 takeup increases.

Idea: Do the opposite of what is hyped around you.

3) Shift to an area where population is more scarce and avoid highly populated areas occupied mainly by students and blue collar workers.
-This is the most expensive option.
Example: Avoid highly populated areas like Puchong, JB or Cheras but consider smaller towns like Sungai Petani, Ipoh or Miri?
It's the opposite if isps want to run pilot test projects because with high density areas they can test heavy loads and subscriber habits. Not ideal for end users though!

4) Handsets, Laptop and Netbook bundle offers are Bull Sheet!
This news was just brought up in the press in UK recently and consumers are already fumed over it.
No isp is that stupid to do charity or something non profitable
Their main aim here is to get you tied to contracts. The other catch you'll notice is that these packages are often bundled with very small volume limit caps - 3GB? 2GB?
Those people who did the research for these companies are not stupid.

are you kidding me? sungai petani?

Unless you want to set yourself on fire ...we've been experiencing slow internet connections, and for the unlucky ones, like MYSELF, NO STREAMYX. damn angry.

Have you not try Winet in SP?
Heard that it's not bad. You've got P2P, in house streaming TV and satellite channels offered free on the network.
RM50 only wor per month. No bills just top up coupon.

This is in relation to point #3 of my first post.
Less population density, easier bandwidth management, less congestion and most important fewer complains

yeah exactly. why only northern part of malaysia somemore?

sungai buloh is not exactly the whole of klang valley so that doesn't count.

I'm not sure about Bandar Laguna Merbok or Dove Town.

Does that area have lots of students living there?
Refer to Point #3 again of my 1st post again.

Consumer broadband packages have the lowest priority among isps and servicing less affluent residential area would mean high maintenance, high usage loads and lower returns.

It's better to service an area where many taukehs live, bangalows are scarcely distributed, people could afford high end packages.

Some of my neighbour still uses dial up..... and most Maxis Broadband and Streamyx.. Didn't hear anyone using W1MAX here.. also my area not really covered by p1 but still get full speed, no disconnection at all

If most of them are on Maxis Broadband and Streamyx then you can try either Umobile, Celcom BB or DiGi later.

Always go with the least popular option
