Hello jialat, I'd just like to ask regarding some hygienic steps for contact lens wearing. I wear O2 Optix on a daily basis.

Before wearing, I rinse the lens with saline solution. Is this step necessary? Because many friends that I know do not use saline at all. Heck, they don't even know what it is. After taking the lens off, I rub and rinse it with Opti-Free Replenish before soaking it overnight. I also leave my lens casing to air-dry during the day.

Should I get protein-removal tablets as well? I've never used them, so quite unsure of it. Also, I'm using Allergan's Refresh Liquigel as my eye drops. Is this particular eye drop good? I do not use it often, so I hardly ever finish it in one month, is it okay to use it after a month?

Oh and, if my power is -5.50, -5.00 contact lens should be correct, right?

yes, is a very good practice to rinse the lens with saline before insert onto ur cornea. saline helps wash away the chemical content in solution, thus reduce chances of allergic reaction. u have been practicing very good contact lens hygiene there, good on u.

protein removal is not necessary if u continue to take good care of lens like u mentioned.

is the allergan refresh liquigel in liquid or gel form? is best to use liquid refreshing drops. allergan is a very good brand, well recognised world wide.

i usually recommend patient to use the eye drop within 1 month or so, dont keep it for too long, some of them actually put it in fridge but i m not sure how good the drop is after being 'cool'  sweat.gif

yes -5.00 will be adequate. thanks

Thanks a lot for the info provided.

I feel that the Refresh Liquigel is actually just liquid, just slightly more viscous than their original one, Refresh Tears. But their website states that it's "extra strength gel drops for dry eyes". I've previously been using Tears, and actually bought Liquigel by accident. Found that Liquigel provides more relief and lasts longer, but as it is more concentrated, it tends to leave salt around my eyes after it dries up. Should I revert back to Tears since I do not use it as often anymore?

yes my advise would be switched back to tears, the liquid form if ur dry eye problem is not very serious. gel form is prescribed for those with more severe dry eye. thanks

Just wondering how accurate are machine checks for eye power? I went to a few shop and all gave different powers.

[R] S -5.75, C -1.00; [L] S -5.25, C -1.00
[R] S -5.75, C -0.75; [L] S -5.25, C -1.25
[R] S -5.25, C -1.00; [L] S -4.75, C -1.25
[R] S -5.00, C -1.50; [L] S -4.50, C -0.75

And after that I went for a manual one, trial and error type, got both left and right S -5.00, C -0.50

Which should I trust? rclxub.gif Currently I am wearing -5.00 O2Optix for both sides. Vision is fine, but who knows maybe can be better unsure.gif

Btw is O2Optix monthly or bi-weekly? Saw a few US sites that say it's bi-weekly. But I have been using it for monthly all this while.

Also thinking of changing to daily disposable. Which brand is recommended? Or all the same?

Thanks.

hi, u dont need any solution to soak it, but its good to have solution to clean and rinse it before wear. thanks

most ppl just open - use - then throw at end of day.
hi, most machine readings are just a reference / guidance, none is 100% accurate.

best is manual check but god knows how many ppl out there can do a good job, so its important to ask for optometrist, who is trained to do that. not optician, they can only fix glasses but cant really check eyes, they just learn agak agak only.

o2 in malaysia is marketed as monthly lens, but in Europe it is a biweekly lens.

i strongly recommend B&L daily disposable lens, it provides high definition vision.

but if u want a ok ok lens yet budget 1, then use freshkon daily lens. thanks

Thank you so much for the info! I've actually tried B&L's daily, and it was pretty nice for me biggrin.gif

I'll be seeing an eye specialist the coming Saturday for a general check-up. Not sure if he's an optometrist or an ophthalmologist though. Hopefully he'll be able to check my powers.

Thanks again! smile.gif

Btw, what's your opinion in comparing Purevision and O2/Air Optix?

ic, if u have sensitive eyes, u should try those eyedrops without preservative because this is the component that sting ur eyes. look for those small vial because without preservative, its best to finish it 1 off once open, dont get those in bottle but without preservative.

I was prescribed HYLO-COMOD (10ml bottle) by ISEC. How is this? Or should I go find 1-use vials?

u have done lasik? whats the reason they prescribe u hylo-comod? its good eye drop without preservative, 10ml is consider quite small bottle, just make sure the tip of bottle does not touch anything. thanks

Nope I'm contact lens wearer. Had some unexplained red eye, and the doctor say it may be due to the eye drops I was using (Refresh Tears). He then recommends me to use those without preservatives, and prescribed me HLYO-COMOD. Guess I'm good with it then biggrin.gif
