Thanks jialat for all your useful advice.
My question is: Which is better for eye health in the long run, contact lenses or spectacles?
I've been wearing contact lenses for the past 7 years and most of the time more comfortable than not. I very seldom wear specs out. But which is actually healthier since I spend most of my waking hours in front of the computer?
you r welcome.
good question u got there, best visual aid is very much depend on age.
if u are a growing child or teenage, RGP definitely is the best choice for ur eye health. RGP control myopia progression and thus can prevent alot of high power related complication like retinal tear and phoria problem.
a 'multifocal' glasses would be the best option for those spending long hours on computer but not many ppl actually use it becoz its expensive and not many good practitioner know how to fit it. the reason i called it a 'multifocal' is because u need a max distance power to see far clear, while a lesser power for u to see computer screen clear, and all these different powers are made into a piece of spectacle lens.
pls bear in mind that the glasses u wearing is for far vision, in order to see near clearly, ur eyes need to work harder to compensate for the distance power and thus a higher accommodation is needed to see near objects and this will strain ur eyes. so ur eyes get tired after long hours with a distance power glasses / contact lens looking at near.
if u cant live without contact lens, and u dont need to see far very clearly, then u might want to consider a slightly lower power contact lens, but its not advisable becoz u will need time to get used to lower power lens as u have been wearing max distance power lens for 7 years. if u r close to 40, then a lower power lens will work great for u.
if u r young, then just stick to ur currect power lens and dont force urself looking clear at near while tired. must rest ur eyes more often. thanks
