Just got home with it. Sitting right in front of me now. Haven't tried any games with it yet. Might install Last Remnant later and see how it runs. So far it's fine. However sheetsta is a pos. Might wipe it later and install Ubuntu or XP SP3.

Vista Rating = 4.0

CPU - 4.9
RAM - 5.1
GPU - 4.0
GPU Gaming - 4.1
HDD - 5.4

Right, day one experience with the notebook personal opinion.

It comes with Vista Home Premium. So far the Pentium DC isn't a letdown for desktop use. Although the empowering technology app stopped responding when I pressed the e button once but after ending the task and relaunching, it didn't do that anymore. Probably Vista's fault.

Vista score on top as you can see. It ships with SP1 pre-installed. The first thing I did when I powered it on was removed the junks off the machine, namely Google Desktop, some fish chat app that I forgot the name, mc afree trial anti virus etc, you get the idea.

Installed CoreAVC and tried Afro Samurai BD played with MPC and the CPU was hovering around the mid 20s without hardware acceleration.

It also comes with a 60days trial of MS Office 07. I wiped that off and installed a full version.

Checked for updates after that and it showed an estimate of 435MB~ to download (this includes Office 07 SP1)

Aesthetic wise I have a few complaints.

1.) Only has 2 USB ports which are located on the left hand side of the machine. Most people are right handed thus you have to drag your USB cable for your mice around the back of the machine if you get what I mean. I find it annoying but not really a major downside.

2.) Card reader located on the front of the machine towards the left side. Dummy card bulges out a little bit and sometimes it take quite a few tries to get it back in the slot after you pull it out. Again, not a major downside but annoying nonetheless.

Other than these two, everything is in place.

Temperature wise I can say that after 6 hours, the machine is warm but not unbearable to rest it on your lap. Thanks to the CPU mainly I guess.

I'll get to gaming performance tomorrow as now my mother is using it since it was bought for her to use not me.

Last Remnant won't run well with this machine sad to say.

Medium settings all with Shadows to Low = 20fps
Low settings with Shadows turned off = 17fps.

Either the CPU is bottlenecked to hell or the infamous Ati performance on this game is that bad.

Acer logo on the lid will not light up.

Bro, do you get the frame rate correct? Low settings with shadows turned off should perform better.

I'm thinking to take this model to sell to LYN members? Is anyone interested? smile.gif

Yep, this is in-battle performance. around 3 fps boost would either mean its severely CPU bottlenecked or the game really runs terribly on Ati cards.

I have a desktop with a 4850 and with shadows turned high would give 12fps in battles and shadows turned to low would give 75 fps or so. But this doesn't show on the notebook so I would lean towards the CPU bottle neck part.

Oh and it was running on native fullscreen which was 1280x800 IIRC.

I brought money to Low Yat Plaza today, but haven't bought yet. You still have chance. I'll be going back to LYP this weekend.

That means the fps reads like this:
Medium settings all with Shadows to Low = 17fps
Low settings with Shadows turned off = 20fps.

Since the thoery now is CPU bottlenecking, do you/anyone have a software than can measure the CPU performance independent of the GPU?

You mean SuperPI or Vantage?

the problem is when i email to acer, they said this model with my serial number does not come with BT....

the following is their reply to my inquiry

"Hi xxxxxx,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

From your serial number, the description is as below:

AS4730Z-421G16MN,T4200,1 *1GB,160G,6L,CM,CR,LINUX

Your computer comes originally with Linux version from our factory. The "e" button is actually known as empowering technology and that button can be used with Acer incorporated OEM windows only.

As from the description above, it shows that your notebook does not come with bluetooth device.

For more information, do feel free to contact us at 1800-88-1918.

I never checked out the serial number on the machine that's with me but yours might seem to tell that its a 4937Z and not a 4937ZG right?
