Dear users..
I need help and confused on claim for my insurance company(kurnia).. I have met with an accident and my MYvi Car was overturn(3years car only). My car was Tow and i did claim for insurance by a car workshop. After reparing the total amount to pay is rm8400 by my insurance company but the offer letter send to my house saying that the claim will be covered by the insurance company (KURNIA) was only 6483.31 and i need to pay about rm1900 to Workshop. I ask their customer service and they explained to me that my car market value was rm37,000 and the insurance that i bought (sum insured) rm30,000. I am not doing a total lost claim and why should they refer to the value market price of the car??? In the letter they got write the total amount that the workshop claim and how much should be funded to the workshop. i need to take the car but the workshop was asking rm1900 so i scared i was being cheated by the work shop or insurance company.. help me!

ya they did send someone from insurance to take picture.. now Kurnia is claiming that my car is underinsured where my SUM INSURED IS 30,000. and the market value price is 37,000. The workshop must be cheating me aldy cause he did not tell me in the first place that my insurance will not cover his cost 100%. but is still dont understand why should they calculate like tat for an accident claim???

ehh.. for your info.
the total amount claim from the insurance; the tow truck services takes around 10-15% of the total amount.
for those who dunno; if not y the tow truck fella appears asap when they see a accident.
for your case.. please check n complain to kurnia.
kurnia should have advise or given u a panel workshop to fix the car.
plus kurnia should have estimated a repair cost; PLUS the workshop will also prepare a estimated repair cost; they should submit tis cost to the insurance;
kurnia will review tis report. and if they agree to the sum; kurnia will pay the workshop to repair.
if there's any additional charges included; or last minute found out got problem here n there, the workshop must do a report ; take pic n submit to the insurance n follow up on the claim.
please check again; sometimes workshop cannot be trusted fully. they like to con ppl who dont have experience b4.

why are they saying ur car is under insured?? when u renew or purchase ur insurance with kurnia, dont they show u the current market rate n advise the amount to be insured?? normally they have a letter given to u. did they tell u its worth tat much; but u chose to insured it lower? and if thats the case they argue ur car is worth more den wat u have insured? please check newspaper n motortrader value. compile them; also go to perodua; ask them to give u an official market evaluation of ur vehicle; in full details; such as year make; model; cc; value as of now; with this documents; u can appeal to your insurance. Underinsuring means you pay less premium and thats the reason they don't want to pay the full repairs, if not everyone will insure for 10 ringgit and get full payment for accident repairs.
If your policy is really underinsured too bad, find the agent and kick him in the pants real hard.

Dear waihan_shal, Since ur SUM Assures is 30K (SA), far less than 80% of ur car's Market Value(MV) . From ur case, the loss claim from motor insurance will apply "average" principle. Loss claim = (SI/MV) * Loss = (30K/37K) * 8400 = RM6810.... Insurance company pay u RM6483.31 which is total amount of RM6810 minus with other admin cost.... IF u want to claim full repair cost, ur SUM ASSURED should be equivalent with ur car's market value....

i did some rough calculation since u said kurnia claim u under insured 7k from market price, 30,000/37,000 * 100 = u r paying 81% of the said market price.. since the repair cost is 8400 * 81% = 6,804.. after minus all the extra charges, kurnia only have to pay 6483.31.. anyway, settle it with ur kurnia dealer and chap his ass 9 9 9 9 9 9

Before we turn this into a bash Kurnia thread, can somebody tell me what did Kurnia do wrong in this case? This is how underinsured policies are calculated. All those who think that their Amassurance, Panglobal, MNI, etc etc is so good, why don't you call them and ask them what happens if you try to claim for an underinsured policy. They'd do the same thing Kurnia is doing. It is just part and parcel of all insurance claims. There is really thing more to discuss in this case. TS did not insure his property 100%, therefore cannot get 100% claim. TS did not send the car to a panel workshop. Insurance company cannot force the TS to go to a panel workshop if TS did not ask. Typically case of "Why didn't you ask?". Added on March 19, 2009, 11:48 pmQUOTE(djhenry91 @ Mar 19 2009, 11:36 PM) i tot 100% claim?? i nid ask my uncle.. he is insurans agent.. maybe he noe.. How can you claim 100% when you did not insure the property for 100%? Having an insurance does not mean you get 100% claim. This post has been edited by sleepwalker: Mar 19 2009, 11:48 PM

thread starter: read the insurance policy and ask for it if you are not given one during the purchase of the insurance.
if u under insure your car, do not expect full claims from your insurer when things happen to your car.
also take note of the various loading or excess you may incure due to driving experience, named driver or other wise.
