Bring lots of food during orientation. Transport should not be a problem. I'm from Sabah and I just tumpang friend's car when he bring over. Heaven granted, it's not going to be hard to find people to carpool with.

And enjoy your orientation basically. The friends you know and make during this critical one week time will be with you for the 4 longest years of your life. So get to know as many people as possible and don't be shy to make friends. Yes, even the facilitators as they are always willing to help out. This year I hear got quite a few cute faci joining, from 1st year and 3rd year students. Lucky la you all! My year faci all is batang =P

Which Ah Ken? Andy Lau? Haha. Actually uni got life no life up to individual. Some ppl always every weekend go out party at Purebar, others (like me) ever get stuck in hostel for 1 month everyday do nothing but watch movie cos holidays din go back and no transport. As long as you have money, there will b no problems.

Just curious. Been stalked followed UTeM thread for a while now and Reign always mentions about carpool. How about motorcycle? Is it allowed in campus? wink.gif
*
Carpool easier mah. One car can sumbat 5 or 6 people. Taking motorcycle also can, but Durian Tunggal quite far le. Of course motorcycle are allowed in campus, a LOT of them are always appearing in our uni. Sometimes after class it's like a rempit gang, but actually just people going back. But it's not so comfortable lo. But if you have to choose between being sumbat into a car or taking personal motorcycle, I will choose motorcycle also, haha.

Only traffic police have a right to issue saman. I take the saman and throw it into rubbish bin only.

Haha not really. Depend on mood one. My gf got the saman straight after going. And it was for exam some more. She never had to go DT for classes one so it's pretty retarded.

All teaching materials are in English, and although exam sheets are bilingual, I think nearly all candidates will answer in English.

In my Faculty most of the lecturers have passable/competant English for the purposes of course presentation, and they can handle deviations from the original topic in Malay, and as the incoming students start getting better in the language, so will the delivery medium start shifting to be more towards English.

But anyway it doesn't bother me that my lecturer deliver in Malay. After all, the terms and lingo are all English anyway (or have a Malay translation that is pretty much mimicking English). But I think more to the point I have relied mostly on the lecture material as my lecturers like to go on endless drivel or offtopic banter. Be careful especially of those Dr. Dr., so far I have only met a handful who have the capacity to stay motivated/concentrate to teach the topic they have been assigned to.

Erm, electronic eng can consider FKE or FKEKK. Google is your friend.

Not sure about the application procedures but most of the students are from Poli over here, so I dun see any problems. As usual its best to contact the uni directly for admission procedures.

Credit transfer is on a sem by sem review basis. Some of my friends can transfer, some cannot, this depend on the Dean in charge. Cross your fingers and pray. But at least will be able to transfer 1 year worth of credits.

Compulsory to stay for 2 years, after that they boot you out unless you apply to stay back in hostel. Very easy for malays to get their application approved, from what I heard so should be no problems for u. of course most prefer to stay outside because its less oppressive atmosphere and we can pasang our own internet.

Haha I do not have their contacts currently. Not very close with the ex poli students.

You can call up the uni directly and ask. They are quite nice.

Haha is it? In Sabah Chinese meet Chinese talk English cos all banana over there, haha. Same in Singapore too, I discover. Guess our students need to be more international a bit.

Manufac Engrg is mostly Malay lecturers talking Malay, for the most part. Not really a problem lah, cos all the material is in English anyway. They just speak Malay for the benefit of those who are not so strong in this language, but I think students nowadays are getting quite proficient in English, leaving the lecturers to catch up.

1) I don't believe in ghosts. And I have yet to hear of any haunting stories.
2) FKP got more girls, and quality ones compared to other faculties. Comparable to FTMK.
3) Not sure about the fees. I heard involves some politics (MPP guy told me) so paham paham la. Anyway its about 15K for the whole course, so just bear with it.
4) 3G? I don't think so. But I am DIGI so not 100% sure. I know u can online from hostel using the 3G wireless modem thingy from Celcom.
5) I believe so. Might delay 1 sem max.
6) Food ah...all malay food le. Sometimes even the malays here also get bored of the food, everyday eat spicy stuff and veggie that is half cooked (I guess they want the ulam taste). I don't know about halal food lah, but usually we will go outside to have decent chinese fare when the malay food gets boring. Also they tend to finish rather quickly. Furthermore next sem all will be at Durian Tunggal in the middle of nowhere so its very hard to get food. Maybe some enterprising businessman will open stalls nearby.
7) Uhh...if you are taking ptptn you have to take bank islam. The ATM will charge you RM1 for every transaction made to other banks. Usually not a problem cos if you stay near MMU, they have ATM nearby for Maybank.
8) You can have one semester of third language for Japanese. There you will see all the cute chinese girls =). Seriously don't know why the chinese girls from semenanjung msia all like to take japanese class. Whatever lah, I'm glad to be the last batch that escaped having to take third language. The clubs or whatever is not really that active here because we used to be split into 2 campus, so hard to coordinate activities. But next sem all will be in 1 campus, maybe we will see more active clubs coming up. But don't count on it, budak UTeM memang pantang extra curricular activities. Anything that we come up with, sure kantoi one.

How come you can stay outside? I thought it is policy for all students to stay in campus 2 years?

Anyway they are nice on the phone only...after u get here...you will experience the typical gov servant attitude 90% of the time. Make u wait for ages, treat u as if u r disturbing their time, etc. Lucky I don't really deal with them except when I am borrowing books from the library or paying my fees.

Anyway welcome to UTeM! Hope you will enjoy your stay here and help make this uni better. We are just ~8 years old, but already producing quality graduates with emphasis on industry.

Come 3rd week of June, I am sure more STPM students will 'discover' more about this uni =). Will try to organize an online chatting session on TinyChat when the time comes.

Private universities does have its advantages if you have the money to afford for such a service. But as far as I know, you can do your masters pretty much anywhere as long as you demonstrate a good understanding of your studies while in degree level and with a solid Final Year Project. After all, private education nowadays is just a business especially at the postgrad level.

Hi...
im new UTeM student and gonna to enter  this U this coming 28th but still not very sure about the information of this U rclxub.gif  ...
i hope senior can provide some important information for new student which need to prepare in the beginning ( documents which need to prepare, how and where to register to be a new student, clothes to wear in orientation week/ normal study day and etc )
many many thx  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

Most of the info is in the first page of this thread. My advice to you is bring MP3 player or a book for the week long VERY BORING talks. And please prepare and bring along food such as biscuits, bread, junk food, breakfast bar, etc. Imagine it is a camping trip and food is limited and pack accordingly. You might end up having lousy pack lunch or breakfast, dry fried fish, weird tasting veggie, etc. Many Chinese students here like to condemn the food. Personally, mai hiam beh pai, ai hiam kanasai! And please don't lock yourself in your room during the morning roll call. You'll just make life hard for the facilitators who will then have to open your room doors with the spare keys and drag you out then try to think of a way to punish you for trying to avoid roll call. Just make things easy for everybody and follow the programme outline. Yes I know you are tired, but the facilitators are also equally tired if not more so. You are most welcome to sleep during the boring lectures =)

asc825: Hi! You're entering the same U with me! Wondering what course you get... I'm a new student. smile.gif

Well I'm not entirely sure what they really wanted for documents (damn, where's that Borang OCR?), using the documents I gotten from USM (yes, I'm one of the poor guys who get the nasty surprise that is USM admission result tongue.gif), plus information from the manual, it's safe to say to bring the original and verified copies of the following documents:

1. IC
2. Sijil Lahir
3. Sijil SPM
4. Sijil/slip keputusan STPM
5. Slip keputusan MUET

You can get your copies verified by your old school's office. smile.gif

You will be register at the Complex Sukan in the main campus, and clothes to wear can be found in the manual. Please remember to download it and print it for your use.

And do bring some foods. If I'm not reading anything wrong in this thread, you will not regret doing so.
*
Eh got borang ocr? I tot OCR is for exams, haha. Erm whatever they give just bring. You can fill it up during registration day. Yes smart please bring your own food. This year guys will be located at Bunga Raya, maybe you can have a chance to visit the convenience stall downstairs to buy if you didn't bring. No need to overdo it. If you know you have really high class tastebuds then bring more. If you are OK and just dun like eating malay food all the time, then just pack tidbits.

QUOTE(jimmywalker @ Jun 22 2009, 07:35 PM)
Tips : Dont bring more than your own hands can carry [Those bringing lorry/van of goods will suffer]. Tell your parents : anything can be brought dont bring along.

Reason: After orientation, student will be relocated. Try imagine yourself climbing 4.5 floor apartment.
*
Yeah dun forget this. Please dun carry your whole kampung worth of stuff over. That can be done during the many times that you will be going back to your hometown. Best method is just pack for the 1 week orientation program, maybe 1 bag, at most 2 is enough. Then when orientation is over, tell ur parents to bring your kampung worth of stuff over during that time. Because you will have 1 day break after orientation is over to move. Otherwise...nobody will be helping you carry your things cos everybody also busy with their own luggage.

I'm joining Orientation Week as faci again this year =). To all the incoming students, see if you can recognize Abang Reign226 during your orientation week for Sesi 09/10. How to recognize? I also not sure, haha. Will let u guys know what Biro I get assigned to if I can or better yet follow me on Twitter @reign226

Haha ok welcome to FKP. I can say the new FKP facilities in Durian Tunggal is hell. Prefer CUBIC because is more organized. Wish I had taken photos of the building. Its shared with FTMK for the time being as we dun have our proper building constructed yet.

You can/must stay for 2 years. Yes guys will be staying in Bunga Raya and EMERALD PARK this year. Have to update the info on the first page already, as EP is now half rented by UTeM. Its being shared with MMU and lets just say those staying there can have free cuci mata show everyday.

Going off to Kem Asahan tomorrow for my Faci training camp tomorrow @ 9am, and won't be around to reply here unless I manage to find free wifi in the jungle over there. Will be back on the 27th to answer any questions.

Last week I went for BAKSIS also part of faci training. Quite an interesting experience, will put post up about it when I am free. In short I spend a week in a village at Alor Gajah and even saw a life sembelih occasion. Extremely gruesome, but as humans we eat meat, and it has to come from somewhere. And I don't mean from supermarkets.

Cubic gone already, last week i went there....FKM fully packed in boxes.
Hmm...thought i heard durian tunggal hostel will be done asap coz cubic has gone down.
This year orientation at where? If Im down thr at weekend might have a look.

To acs825 & sulendil : It is compulsory to pay 2 years of rental fees. To stay or not is depending on individuals. To further stay on the 3th/4th year, one needs to apply & the date of applying is somewhere near the sem opening which is a bet. If you dont get to extend, then u will in panic mode to find room. (That time all your fellow friends have already secure a house/room)
*
We shall see how fast they set up the hostel. I don't think so as FKP and FKM buildings not even done yet.

jimmywalker: Somewhere in the new campus, I think. We're told to gather in the sport complex in the new campus, so the location shouldn't be far from there. smile.gif

Registration is at Sports Complex. Plenty of road signs to guide you there.

Yeah, speaking of computer, does UTeM provides any internet services? I don't really have a laptop, and moving my entire PC to there just sounds stupid for some reasons. tongue.gif
*
Bring your own PC and yes we have a big internet cafe but if I remember correctly the speed there is lousy.

QUOTE(busbos @ Jun 23 2009, 02:17 AM)
yea it's has always been there for orientation
*
Not true, last year was at Sports Complex. Shifted back to Seri Negeri this year for logistics reasons.

QUOTE(Liefde @ Jun 23 2009, 02:53 AM)
Was so upset that I didn't get a place in UTeM last year while a few of my classmates went there. But soon after that, I was trully grateful for what I got and my friends who are studying there told me there are a VERY high percentage of Malays studying there. Then I took a look at my friend's photo who is from mechanical faculty (mostly are girls with tudung) ...luckily I am studying somewhere else with even nice and modern facilities!
*
Classic typical chinamen attitude. But to each his own. But remember you can hide all you want but at the end of the day, Malaysia is still made up of three predominant races and you will have to face multiculturalism one day. Unless you choose to move and stay in Penang or Singapore-lah!

Back from Orientation Training Camp. Damn tiring and tomorrow will be registration day! Hope to meet many new juniors tomorrow. This year's programme will be quite fun, and hopefully all students can give cooperation to all the Facilitators and follow the program that we have planned out for you guys. Expect to wake up 5am every morning and sleep around midnight. We have too much stuff and info need to pass on to students so that you will be equipped to face university life! Good luck!

Wanna restart this thread again, seems like it's been dead for awhile. UTeM has official facebook, so for those who want to know more info can just search our name there.

Yes UTeM provides Master courses, latest is for FKP (manufacturing). I heard they are doing the classes at night to allow for those working to continue Masters full time. So you can finish your masters with minimum period while still continueing to work, a great advantage to those professionals working in Melaka. Don't forget that Najib will give you RM10k if you continue masters, meaning you just need to fork out extra about RM3k to get a full fledged masters. This applies to other IPTA as well.
