Hi Guys,

Any recommendation for Kancil tyres and sport rims? Currently on stock suspension, springs and 12" metal rims. Should I go for 13" or 14"? If go for 14", does the fender need to be knocked?

Thanks in advance.

opt 13" 5jj. 14" would be ok too if its not 6jj cos if it is, your fenders will munch on the tires.

Hi kancil owners, i nid some inputs bout kancil 850 auto yr 06-07. I plan to get 1 next yr as my work car.
I gona use it for city journeys all the time.
Do you know any1 sells them? I checked carlist, auto world and motor trader sites and I found a number of 06 manual models .
My budget is max at RM18K and hope to get 1 model 07 w/out the nid of repairs. (buy n drive)
What to look out for those car of that year?
Thank you

Guys, I wanna buy a Kancil for my brother.. He's 18 and I think a Kancil would be suitable for his first car..

Between L5 turbo and 1000cc engine, which is better in term of fc, pickup, maintenance? Thanks smile.gif

u mean a kancil with a 1000cc engine? this would be simplier to maintain but legality would be another thing.

i would suggest a stock L5 turbo manual. stock form its known to run very well, good fc, maintenance might be tricky to source for certain parts.

kancils are light. yes. is it so light that a strong gush of wind will blow your car off the ground kinda light? no.

i dont mean to sound harsh, until this day, i still do not understand why is being a light car an issue? is a heavier car better? heavier car needs more torque which in turn needs more power and more fuel and more money and the list goes on.

is being light equates to being prone to spinning out and turtle-ing? no. i have seen my fair share of kancils and wiras and a heck of alot of cars doing amazing acrobats. huge trucks passing by? in my vios is does the same. its a mammoth. its heavy. i dont think its a prob.

and that is a plus point that any street car would love and die for. put this into perspective. having a kancil L2 turbo or L5 turbo for that matter, is a nice car to play on the weekends.

and Aquariusdenz,

i'd say forget the 850 carby. its a waste. unless your talking about inserting the block in to up the CC. and L2 engines (as i have checked last) are still available, at a reasonable price. but i have seen many getting overhauls and etc does to bad condition engines. invest in a L5 3 cyl or 4 cyl up to u. speaking from experience, the L5 jbjl 4 cyl has given me no prob for a daily car. even now as a weekend piece.

if there's the fear of veering out of control, after converting the engine or even before or whatever the fear may be, i seriously think its OVER THINKING. and my advise is to ACTUALLY try driving a converted kancil and getting a feel of it. a converted kancil, with proper braking, with proper tires, is fine. its fun. its so fun, its rebecca black friday fun fun fun.

In response to light cars, I love pocket rockets. I would take a Kancil any time if the weight and safety factor wasn't thrown into the mix. It's so much cheaper to run, the size makes parking snappy but you might want to reason with other points as well?

Heavier cars eat more fuel and drag more weight, but the weight certainly helps when it comes down to safety. The threshold of stability is much lower on low cars at high speed, hence the taking-off feeling. 'High speed' is subjective anyway, but its only at 110km/h and the steering turns light - the error tolerance is so small that one mistake or any external forces (trucks, crosswinds) is enough to cause a major accident. Add rain and that tiny gap shrinks by another half.
in terms of the steering getting light during high speeds, im pretty sure its attributed to the stock 12" wheels perodua calls "RIMS" cool2.gif those are basically bicycle wheels. nothing a 13" 5.5jj set of wheels and possibly a slightly lower ride wont fix.

I've had my share of experience with a few cars, notably the Golf TSI, Peugeot 206CC, a 1967 VW Beetle, a Laser TX3 with a B8 plonked inside, an Alfa Romeo 168 to note a few, which greatly adds pages to my definition of stability in my book.
no arguements here. haha! but i'd defend my lil weekend junk by saying, simply with a lower ride, front strut bar its all good.

Now let's say you souped up your ride, made it nice and heavy and all. Doors open and close with a solid thud, bonnet doesn't echo like a empty barrel. But that does not change the track and wheelbase, an inherent property which greatly influences the quality and stability of the car. To keep it simple, cars with shorter tracks would apply more pressure onto its contact points - the wheels. A good analogy would be driving a small and large nail with the same amount of force, which the smaller nail sinks in faster than the other due to its concentration to a much smaller area. As such, it is very easy to overload the brake systems of small cars. 2 pot calipers and bigger disc brakes only play so little in the entire playground of vehicle stability. Then again, what disc sizes can you fit inside those tiny wheels?
for me, a solid thud quality is not important. if it closes, thats all that matters. kancils are kancils. never gonna get a solid thud. sweat.gif
brakes wise, with a 13" rims, u can fit in an L5 disc. bitting power does not matter how worth the discs are, but are your calipers working properly. never use dot 3. always use at least dot 4. more over, as the car is light, enormous stopping power is not needed. another plus pont.

But back to my point. It's all this and more which contributes to my decision to get a new, bigger sized car. But fluffy6640, no harm taken. I've put many years into this car that I only have, but time to move on when I can smile.gif

im glad i have found one of the few forummers who actually have valid points to discuss on. thank you for that wink.gif
and yes, no doubt, a kancil will always be a kancil, its light. its makes a shitty dail ride. hahaha! dont hold back on moving on with a nicer car, i did too. but my point im trying to make is that, kancils are light. take it as an advantage. not a disadvantage.
