The concept behind the Independent Youth Festival 2008 is centred around youth doing things for themselves, being free to explore and discover things that they are passionate about. Indie Youth Fest = Music. Art. Spoken Word. Fashion. Video Games. Design. Digital Stuff. Independent spirits . It's about making play career and it's an extension of something we've always believed in - open mics for life. It's truly a festival for all. Not just the youth. And it is inspired by all of you who have taken stage at our Community Event, Doppelganger Open Mic & Stage. ![]() We are pleased to announce the kick start of our signature event for Malaysian youths - the Independent Youth Festival 2009, a celebration of digital and do-it-yourself (DIY) culture. This year, the festival is organised in collaboration with nationwide video game tournament; Go International E-sport Cup (GO.esc) - the DreamHack Malaysia Qualifier. Organiser of the event, Go International Group had recently signed a partnership with DreamHack in Sweden, an event established at a school canteen 15 years ago amongst friends, which now gathers over 10,000 youth twice a year in Jankoping, Sweden. It's no wonder that DreamHack has been called ‘Digital Woodstock’. This is the second annual Indie Youth Fest where we aim to provide a platform for the youths to display their creativity, talents and skill in a safe, fun, conducive and drug-free environment. Malaysian youths participate in events as diverse as singing and songwriting, to video-gaming, filmmaking, attending entrepreneurship workshops to Malaysia’s first ever nationwide Human-Beatbox challenge, dancing and blogging. The best of the fest are selected to represent ‘1 Team Malaysia’ at international festivals like DreamHack in Sweden. Last year, six Malaysian youth were sent to Electronic Sports World Cup Global Finals held in California, USA where Team Malaysia clinched the Silver Medal in the game, DotA. The 1st and 2nd of August at LG Rainforest, 1Utama is the venue for the season’s kick start which will feature live performances from local bands of note such as Oh Chentaku, Lightcraft, Army of Three, Car Crash Hearts, Marionexxes and more. Registration for GO.esc / DreamHack Qualifiers in Counter Strike 1.6 and Malaysia’s first ever human beatbox challenge will also take place. From 1 Utama, the IYF 2009 Tour will travel to Penang, Johor, Kuching and Selangor from August to October where youths from all over Malaysia will have a chance to participate at their hometowns. The Tour will then culminate at the Grand Finale event held from 14th-18th of October at 1Utama Shopping Centre. The Independent Youth Festival / Indie Youth Fest 2009 is open to all Malaysian youths who may register to be a part of the fun by signing in with a nominal sum of RM20 at booths which can be found at the season kickstart and at the roadshows on Tour. Hi Guys, For more info you can always check our website and our blog for more info now you can check the link below:
http://indieyouthfest.wordpress.com/activities/e-sport/ Firstly, a big thank you to our partners this year. Sendi Mutiara Multimedia and E-Club Management will be assisting us in building this newly launched tournament – GO International E-sport Cup (GO.esc). What kind of games will be played at GO.esc? Gamers, take note. There will be the following games offered so far – we will announce more games later as negotiations are still underway. These are for national competition at GO.esc to be held at GF High Street, 1Utama Shopping Centre. Qualifiers will be held from 14-16 October, with the Grand Finals held on 17 & 18 October. Over RM70,000 worth of cash and prizes to be won!!! The official GO.esc games are: • Trackmania [platform - PC] • Tetris [platform - Mobile Phone] • Bejewelled [platform - Facebook] • Bookworm Deluxe [platform - PC] • Grand Theft Auto 4.0 [platform - pc] • Register to Play. The Official GO.esc // DreamHack Malaysia games are: •Counter Strike 1.6 gamers, please Register. to play at least 72 hours before each State Qualifier. •One single player game – to be announced later because DreamHack has not yet announced the full game list as yet. Thank you for your patience. Meanwhile, please give us your feedback on which game you strongly feel Go International Group should nominate as our next official game for DreamHack. The winner of the Official GO.esc // DreamHack Malaysia games will WIN a trip to represent Malaysia in Sweden. Go International Group will sponsor flight, accommodation and seats for one champion team of each of the official games to Jankoping, Sweden for DreamHack Winter from 26-29 November 2009. NEWS UPDATES Go International Group has secured a partnership with World’s Largest LAN party and computer festival, DreamHack Sweden. Organisers of Indie Youth Fest will be putting together an independent homegrown tournament for pro-gamers. Get ready for the Go International Electronic Sports Cup 2009, also known as GO.esc. In partnership with the Largest Computer / Digital Festival in the world that also threw the most enormous LAN party as recorded by Guinness Book of Records (2007), GO.esc doubles up as the DreamHack Malaysian Qualifiers. Games line-up include Counter Strike 1.6 and several other games to be announced on 1st August. Teams are invited to register in person, or online from 1st August onwards. We’re sorry! Requests before that date will not be entertained. Go International E-Sports Cup(2008) In 2008, Indie Youth Fest was held in collaboration with the Electronic Sports World Cup 2008 Malaysia. This was an international tournament where Team Malaysia headed to San Jose, USA for the global grand finals and came home with a Silver Medal. This also created the opportunity for the pro-gramers, Team Kingsurf who play DotA to meet with the Prime Minister! Thanks to the industrious team at Go International Group for helping make history as they were the FIRST VIDEO GAMERS TO MEET A PRIME MINISTER in Malaysia. The sad news is that in March 2009, ESWC’s main organiser GAMES SERVICES based in Paris, France announced that the company had gone under receivership and will no longer be able to hold the international tournament. That news left the world shocked and saddened as it was the ‘indie’ big brother of video games championships. We are still awaiting news on the possibility of ESWC being revived… – visit our blog www.eswcmalaysia.wordpress.com This post has been edited by Indieyfest: Aug 3 2009, 05:51 PM |

Hiya all, thanks to those who made it for the two-day season kickstart. Please note that it was just a kickstart - providing an opportunity for upcoming bands (all 133 performers) a chance to take on centrestage, as well as demoplay on Guitar Hero and Nintendo Wii at Studio V's cool 'egg' looking hub at the LF Rainforest.
The Digital Delirium Xpo, Go International E-sport Cup and DreamHack CS1.6 Grand Finale will be happening at two locations: Digital Zone @ GF High Street from 14-18 Oct, and Indie Zone @ LG Rainforest on 17 & 18 Oct. For those who were expecting more, we invite you to return in October. This initial launch was just that. Thank u. |
