Hi guys,
I've read the "keyboard for beginner" thread.

I'm currently trying to do some composing, on a computer, with a software,
so with my below average aural skills, and play-by-ear, a funky rhythm can cause me 1 hour's time...

I'm thinking of buying a keyboard just for the input, so does other features matter?
Like touch sensitive, or piano style keys.
Or any simple model would do the job well?( I don't know if that includes the toys'r'us models...)

hmmm if u don't really need it, i don't think that u actually need a touch sensitive piano key.

furthermore since u're doing all your programming in a computer and not "live" recording, touch sensitivity is not even an issue.

i think laugh.gif

Hi, So you mean anything works fine?

I kinda have an odd question. When a keyboard is connected through midi input.
The sound produced when touching the keys isaccording to the sound files chosen in the software or the keyboard?

eg: I set the sound to Guitar, then I choosed Piano on the keyboard, when I touch the key...What Happens?

Thanks nimrod2

you mean u wanna buy keyboard with sound? not a midi controller?
in my case i connect my yamaha keyboard & when i choose the sound on the keyboard it also changes the selected sound on the software. but since the names of the sound are not the same, i normally choose the sound on the software & don't touch anything on the keyboard. i hope u understand what i mean wink.gif

oh, forgive my "noobness" again.
I just googled what a keyboard and a midi controller is... And I think I get that partially.

So that means If I choose the sound I want in the software, then dont do any changes to the instrument settings on the keyboard,
It will be functioning as a plain Midi Controller?

Thanks

when connect to the pc via midi out, a keyboard & a midi controller will function the same, ie acts as input to control the software. midi controller by itself does not have any sound source on it's own, while keyboard does. but midi controller is designed to control the software, hence it has many more buttons & knobs to control the software parameters

so i suggest since u are more into programming, get a midi controller instead.

But my budget is limited to around Rm 600 only.
And so I have two options on my mind,

One is the yamaha psr-e213, used offered by gapnap.
Or the M-audio 49 keys.

And I think I should prefer the Yamaha?

Hey, Thanks for giving me guidance man,

well.. it depends on your priority :
more control on the software : m-audio
can play keyboard independently : yamaha

we can't decide for u. good luck wink.gif

Yea, I know, just tried to google for what type of control on the software you mean.

I always thought that that m-audio 49 keys is just a plain midi controller without any special function, so seeing that the yamaha, is better than the keyrig 49, at least it's 61 keys...

Huh? I thought the cables included would do the job...

For M-Audio KeyRig, it says that it's connected via USB, so I thought that it's included.

Thanks

Hi, I have one more question.
My friend told me that connecting the keyboard to a computer via Midi/USB Cable is not so efficient, the transfer speed might cause some missed notes and deviated beats.

So he recommend me to connect to the Comp via a midi interface.

Is That necessary?

Thanks

u are referring to a term called latency. well a midi interface also uses usb cable so it should be similar performance. if u're worried, bring yr laptop to the shop & connect the keyboard or controller & try for yourself first before deciding to buy. that's what i did when i bought a midi interface & I asked the shop to connect a midi controller to it & play it to feel the latency.
