21 Reasons Why Nokia 5800 is better than Apple Iphone

1) Size
The iphone is bigger in size and uneasy for one hand grip. Nokia 5800 is designed to fit well into your hands. Being smaller in width, it’s easy to operate single handedly.
Iphone size: 115.5 X 62.1 X 12.3 mm
Nokia 5800 size: 111 X 51.7 X 15.5 mm

2) Weight
Iphone is much bulkier than Nokia 5800. Nokia 5800 is 25g lighter than Iphone in weight.
Iphone: 133g
Nokia 5800: 109g

3) Screen Resolution

The Iphone has 3.5” screen while Nokia 5800 has 3.2” but the resolution of 5800 is far more superior to Iphone.
Resolution:
Iphone: 480 by 320
Nokia 5800: 640 by 360

4) Storage

Iphone comes with two options- 8GB & 16GB internal memory. Nokia has a more flexible option to offer 8GB with micro SD card which is expandable upto 16GB. Nokia owners can expand memory size according to needs which the Iphone guys can’t do.

5) Input Methods

Iphone: Finger only.
Nokia 5800: Finger, stylus, plectrum, handwriting recognition.

6) Features
Apple Iphone has lots of missing features like cut and paste function, saving email attachments, no support for third party headphones, ringtones, applications, many software bugs and other technical glitches. Nokia 5800 Tube has no such issues plus many more amazingfeatures included.

7) Colors
Iphone: Black for 8 & 16 GB, White for 16 GB only.
Nokia 5800: Red, Blue and Black.

8 ) Battery
Nokia 5800 provides upto 35 hrs of music playing time against Apple Iphone which claims just 24 hrs. Overall battery power (talktime/standby) is also about 30% more in Nokia 5800. What more, 5800 has a removable battery which Iphone lacks.
Iphone: 5 hrs talk-time, 300 hrs standby, not removable.
Nokia 5800: 8.8 hrs talk-time, 406 hrs standby, removable battery.

9) Camera
Iphone: 2 MP, no flash, no zoom, no additional camera.
Nokia 5800: has a 3.2mp camera, 3x digital zoom with Carl Zeiss lens, professional optics, autofocus, zoom, and flash compared to the iphones 2mp cheap optics. A second camera in front is available for video calling/conferencing.

10) Video Calling
Iphone: No Video calling possible in Iphone.
Nokia 5800: Video calling is possible.

11) Video Recording
IPhone: No option for video recording.
Nokia 5800: Video recording is included.

12) Music Service
Iphone: Paid service with Apple Itunes Store. You pay and download music to your Iphone.
Nokia 5800: “Comes with music” service is bundled with Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic phone by which you can download as much music as you want for 1 year- FREE!!

13) Voice Dialing
Iphone: Not Available
Nokia 5800: Available

14) Voice Recording
IPhone: Not Available
Nokia 5800: Available

15) Web Browser
Iphone: Webkit based Safari browser, no flash available.
Nokia 5800: Webkit based browser, supports flash lite.

16) FM Radio
Iphone: Not Available
Nokia 5800: Available

17) Bluetooth
Iphone: Bluetooth is available for just handsfree, no file sharing possible.
Nokia 5800: Bluetooth available for handsfree and file sharing is possible. Better audio quality on bluetooth in 5800 with A2DP technology which Iphone lacks. The 5800 supports stereo bluetooth. The iphone does not.

18) Messaging
Iphone: It does not support message forwarding, multiple SMS deletion, sending SMS to multiple recipients and multimedia messages (MMS).
Nokia 5800: All the above is possible plus it has MMS ver 1.3, message size upto 600kb, and automatic resizing of Images for MMS.19) GPS The Nokia 5800 has a GPS receiver with turn by turn directions. The iphone does not have turn by turn

20) The OS
The 5800 runs symbian s60 which means that you have the ability to install any number of programs on it, such as a different internet browser or multimedia player. Apple does not allow apps in the app store that mimic the official apps. there are internet browsers available for the 5800 that have embedded flash. the safari browser on the iphone is html only.

21) Experience
Nokia: Ages of experience, hundreds of success stories and dozens of smart handsets in current portfolio. Nokia has about 40% market share with the No.1 spot with no close competitors. Certainly the king when it comes to brand value, service and experience.
Apple: First phone ever launched by Apple is Iphone, no prior experience in the telecom market. It’s a novice in the market with a very less market share despite having millions of Iphone sold.

I'm looking to get a new phone and I've narrowed down my options to these two phones. This is what I've found on the net, but I'm afraid that what I read is prejudiced. Therefore, I would like to get more feedback from iPhone users (if possible, Nokia 5800 users too) and your opinion on which is the better model.

Please assist me on my choice. Thanks laugh.gif

Please guys, state factual reasons for your claims. Just saying that one is better than the other without supportive facts doesn't make it easier for my choice.

if you wanna go over all the teeny weeny details, there's a lot of reasons why the iPhone is much more superior compared to the 5800..

the iPhone's technology is in a league of its own compared to the 5800 and the sensitivity of the 5800's touch screen is not as sensitive (those who've tried it knows what I'm talkin about.

price wise, rather than spend 2.5k for a handphone, i'd rather add a little bit more and get another laptop... and for the 5800, than pay 1.5k for a handphone which is moderately good, i'd rather be splurging money on a SE CyberShot phone.. but thats just my personal opinion la tongue.gif

There's something that the iphone cannot do which made me think twice, it cannot forward sms-es and files through bluetooth.

My friend is using an iphone in Singapore and he says u can't forward an sms that someone has sent to you.

Weird eh?

Aw... fanboy topics in iPhone subforum.
Nokia gonna lose badly if you post here.
If u post in nokia thread, iphone gonna lose badly.
So how are you going to judge?

Was never a fan of Nokia. Am typing this reply from a MacBook.
My choice of phone? I rather go for cheapo SonyEricsson phone whistling.gif

But still,to me, the cool factor is with iphone.

personally i think 5800 is a good phone with all the functions that u need.. sleek, nice, elegant, touch screen is responsive and the music is nice.. but sadly the interface is boring, looks exactly like the old nokia phone (wonder why they never change the GUI) .. compare to a cheap SE phone.. Personally i wont mind having this phone but i will 1 day get bored of it and throw it 1 side..

if ur a normal user, get this phone only la.. dont have to spend extra 1k for the iPhone unless u have extra cash...

Thanks for all your constructive replies smile.gif

I have personally tried an iPhone (my relative's) and I loved the features and speed. I intended to get it at first, but someone introduced me 5800 and told me to compare more on the details.

I have been a Nokia user since I first had a phone and I thought that getting an iPhone would be something different. But again, like what pelvin has said, why spend another 1k if I'm not that hardcore?

Though, I have to agree that it is the iPhone that will attract second glances for other people. But I suppose that it is not what a phone is for.

@alvin114: I made comparisons because I am choosing between these two phones. Ignore the facts such as size and weight if you deem it unimportant, there are other aspects put into comparison too.

The reason why I posted here is: Since I roughly know the good points of 5800 based on what I've read, I need iPhone fans/users to tell me its good points.

So far, the iPhone scores in its almost lagless speed and in its "cool factor". Thanks for stating these points. Feel free to post more about pros about iPhones biggrin.gif

iphone all the way!

fwd sms, mms, cut and paste, bluetooth(currently the apps for the ibluetooth is kindda lag), zooming pictures, video capturing, voice recording.... all can be found in 3rd apps party....

if u saying tat the touchscreen of nokia 5800 is good, wait till u see the iphone touch screen.... less lagging and the interface is really flawless...

internet connections?
nokia lost it by a mile.... open opera on nokia and compare with iphone safari....

anyways... its unfair to do comparations especially on the "iphone" thread itself...

the best thing is... do ur own comparation urself....

if you planing to get a long term phone and video call is not your concern like me, iphone is your choice. i have tried my fren 5800, yeah for a phone with all features that offered is a bargain but just the touch screen really suck, it not really multi touch, and not responsive.

alot apps can be found (3rd party) for iphone. such as SmS software and bluetooth. but OS3 coming out soon, expect something nicer.

iphone user interface is very good and very user friendly to me... after using it i feel that the ppl at Apple really have put in a lot of thought about the way ppl use their phones and made their UI to suit the daily usage of most ppl...

no messy menus, big and nice icons to touch, simple and effective interface... so far it's the best i've used, plus it's cool.....

on the other hand Nokia 5800 looks not bad, has a lot of features that iphone is lacking (better camera, video calling etc) but somehow the symbian interface is not so appealing to me.... i tested some symbian phones (older versions) and the interface looks sophisticated and very business like... but not so user friendly i would say...

so it's up to u which one to choose.. but 1K is a lot of money nowadays... spend wisely. hehehe

5800 user here. Well firstly to ts the location of your comparison is in the iphone section so it is going to be biased. However, there are many things going for the two.

1. 5800: cheap, and I mean really cheap for the features that it offers. The first touch screen to roll out from Nokia, so there are bugs. Resistive screen, because it can be used with a stylus. However no multiple touch screen. As far as 3rd party applications, there are so many symbian 3rd party apps and best of all is styletap, where i can use palm software on the nokia. I think styletap for iphone is still in the works. Build quality is not great but then there is the gps... true gps. Installed garmin and it works like a charm. So the 5800 is extreme bang for you buck. RM1400 for a touch phone + full functional garmin gps (which usually costs 1k as a standalone unit)

2. iphone: fashion statement. Most users who buy the iphone buy it to be "in" with the fashion and to be noticed. However there are a select few who are power users who can indeed use it to its true potential. One of the forumers mentioned that there are 3rd party software that allow one to do other functions like video recording etc. However in order to do so you have to jailbreak the phone. Thus, with the new maxis phones it will void the warranty. No need to void warranty to install applications in the 5800. However, the multi touch screen is really good and it still has the best os among the two. So if you have the extra money to burn, then go with the iphone.

If you want to be at the cutting edge of technology get the 5800.
If you want to be at the cutting edge of fashion get the iphone.

All this will change with the launch of the new iphone, rumoured to be out 2010. But it might be out this year too. Rumors of 64 - 128 gb coming out with a whole bunch of upgrades.

Just my two cents guys smile.gif and girls wink.gif

I haven't tried the Nokia 5800, but after watching a couple of videos on it, i think i can safely say that it's touch screen is pretty poor if compared to the iPhone's touch screen. Also, the springboard of the iPhone looks way cooler and smoother than the Nokia 5800. Performance wise, i can say nothing as i have not tried the N 5800. tongue.gif

i use my iphone in my work, and we (i mean most of the iphone users) use iphone not to flash to people, we use it as any other phones.

To the poster saying iPhones are for fashion, I use mine for work. Google "Foreflight". It is so much ingrained in my workflow that I cannot do work without it, at least not without having to go through the archaic process of referring to paper reports and waiting for the hourly weather and NOTAM reports.

So before you generalise, walk a mile in that shoe first. I'm more inclined to say that your 5800 is more on the fashion/social side than technology, seeing what it can do, and how it is advertised here.

I've use my iphone like I use my computer. In a short note, if i malas want to whip out my laptop, then i just whip out my iPhone.

I've tried the 5800 before at Nokia Pavilion and I kept trying to scroll with my finger. Old habit using the iPhone biggrin.gif.

One tag line that I thought after using 5800 ... the phone that lags behind. It's not very responsive, thats what you can expect from a symbian phone. I've used alot of other phone either symbian, WinMo or the ordianry type, but once you use iPhone , you'll notice how easy and mind blowing the the experience is, albeit for a few short comings (no device in this world is perfect).

I've 1 year warranty from SingTel , as long as you keep the original receipt , of course you need to go down Singapore to claim it.

You can always restore back the iPhone to claim your warranty, Unless it's total spoiled... can't even switch it on... then who would know whether you jailbreak your iphone or not? smile.gif

btw , my iphone was bought from 1 of the forumer here with official singtel receipt.

Ok jst my advice (Iphone user) used to have nokia phone since 3210 series...

if u re not a phone savvy person(make lots call,SMS lots, SMS during driving) go for nokia...

if u re a multimedia fav person (music, youtube), games, I can u tell Iphone is ur best choice provided your budget allows.

None can beat the iphone touch screen responsiveness....

The most important thng, go and touch them and feel them..smile.gif

i dont see iPhone to be a fashion statement. in fact there are other phones with designer label (G.A., Prada, etc) that targeted that market more properly. but yeah, there r still people flashing around their iPhone and say "I got an iPhone" just to be seen. so it's nothing wrong with the phone, it's the person's.

All this will change with the launch of the new iphone, rumoured to be out 2010.  But it might be out this year too.  Rumors of 64 - 128 gb coming out with a whole bunch of upgrades.

btw, if u have tried an iPhone for just minutes doesnt mean u already experienced everything on the iPhone.

oh another thing, it's seems to be unfair to have this posted on the iPhone thread. other than the obvious answer u will get, there will exist some people that always say "mommy this place is full of fanboys [bla bla bla]". so i dont see this question to be fit with the nature of this thread, other than most likely attracting flame.

just my2cents.

actually many third party application can overcome the problem stated like MMS, cut and paste, video recording, sound recording , bluetooth and etc. Now iPhone users able to do that.
The article u read from , surely doesn't understand or research on iPhone.
Apple Iphone design will win all the market, trust me.
