A bit of Wikipedia first QUOTE Avalon Code (アヴァロンコード, Avaron Kodo?) is an action role-playing game for the Nintendo DS released in Japan on November 1, 2008 and on March 10, 2009 in North America. The game was created by Matrix Software.
The world is going to end, the player character has been having nightmares about it. He/She has been chosen by the powers-that-be, however, he has not been chosen to save the world. The protagonist's job is to take a magic tome called the Book of Prophecy and write down what is worth saving so it can be recreated. Now for some pictures This is my personal opinion of the game after playing it for 5 minutes » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « QUOTE Avalon Code is seriously one of the most unique action role-playing game I have played. Now, the game starts off with the familiar story of chosen hero, sword of truth hero guardian thingy. Now the mechanics is also the familiar hack & slash thingy until an interesting NEW mechanic is introduced. The Book of Prophecy. Now, the idea of The Book of Prophecy is that the world is dying. And you the lucky one get to record all the good stuff in this old world which can be copied over into the new and improved version. What's cool about this book is that you get to do what your teacher has been doing when you doze off. Smack yah with the book. Well, with the Book of Prophecy you get to smack everything from friends, gears, plants, enemies & weapons and then their data will be stored into the book. Once in the book you get to reorder it's "code" to make it better, weaker, flameable and what not. Below are some excerpt from 1UP & IGN » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « QUOTE You certainly can't fault Avalon's pedigree. It's the work of Alundra creators Matrix, best known for programming Square Enix's recent Final Fantasy remakes, and in many ways it feels like something of a spiritual successor to their PlayStation cult classic. There are lots of puzzle dungeons, for one thing, including the obligatory sliding ice block puzzles that drove so many Alundra players batty. And you certainly can't fault Matrix's technical expertise: Avalon looks and sounds great, with a mellow soundtrack and in-engine cutscenes that look even better than Final Fantasy IV's. Whatever dark pact the studio forged to earn its ability to wring every last drop of power from the DS's humble processors is in full effect here. Read more HEREQUOTE March 6, 2009 - Publisher Xseed has really been delivering on the Nintendo DS. This February Retro Game Challenge was our DS game of the month, last year's Korg DS-10 was a fun musical tool, and now we have a unique action role-playing game with Avalon Code. While it presents players with the familiar premise of controlling a humble young hero destined to save the world, it features a game mechanic called the Book of Prophecy that is unlike anything I've played before. There is a learning curve and the book isn't as intuitive as it could be, but players willing to put in the time will find a deep and visually impressive DS game here. Read more HERE
