Apple scrambling to counter Dev Team? Thanks to Psyeo for the first heads-up, it is just this paragraph piques my interest:- QUOTE There were some links floating around the internet to a direct image of the new OS, though the fact that they have swiftly disappeared would seem to indicate Apple is spending the day making some last-minute modifications to the OS before tomorrow's release. If your Maxis CD contains this old OS, and Apple is yanking it out to counter Dev Team's ultrasn0w efforts, you can throw that CD in the dustbin already for being an outdated version of OS 3.0. THIS is the reason why I said it before, and I'll say it again, that is it a ridiculously senseless move by Maxis to send the firmware update via CDs, because the nature of the cat-and-mouse game between Apple and the Dev Team prompts the dynamically changing nature of the firmware updates.Next time, think and listen. It is not just because it is logical and easier to distribute the firmware update digitally, but also because there are other reasons. If this is true, Maxis' supposedly attempt at trying to look like they are providing technical support for the distribution of the new firmware, already makes them fall flat on their face. Understand? This post has been edited by stringfellow: Jun 17 2009, 06:40 PM

Maxis, as expected, is stretching the 3G[S] launch till late July/early August. Price indicator? 16GB 3G[S] = current 16GB 3G. That is it, I am scrambling my own plan. Maxis, you had your shot, but you just had to prolong the wait. I am not inclined to wait any longer. This post has been edited by stringfellow: Jun 17 2009, 06:50 PM

buying time to clear old stock i presume, its dumb to prolong the wait as people will just get it elsewhere. This post has been edited by nimrod323: Jun 17 2009, 06:52 PM

QUOTE(supermassive @ Jun 17 2009, 06:51 PM) Complaining here isnt the solution dude. Chill ~ Just addressing Maxis's futile and pathetic attempt to try and look like they are providing support, when in actual fact they are not. Their line of thought is archaic and old-fashioned to say the least. My own brother faced the brunt of my chiding, he's in Maxis, and he is particularly embarassed at how his company handles after-sale support. Firmware updates via CDs? This is not Windows Mobile we are dealing with! His embarassment for Maxis extended so far that his own iPhone 3G unit is not from Maxis, his was the unit I bought for him from Auckland. A Maxis employee with his iPhone NOT from Maxis. What does that indicate I wonder?

The only thing I'm against Maxis for sending firmware update on CD is that, it is not an environmental friendly after sale support for an environmental friendly phone. I think the article link i posted earlier must be confused by the different release date of 3.0 update posted on apple website. i.e. US=17 June, MY/SG/NZ/etc =18 June This post has been edited by psyeo: Jun 17 2009, 07:15 PM

Psyeo bro, I believe that was the core of the issue of that article. It is just my look into the article that it suggest Apple, after that live demo of ultrasn0w, may look into the possibility, although this late, of replacing that firmware cracked by the Dev Team, with a fresh new one, just to deter them further.
That is the beauty of digital distribution. One single click of a button and you can distribute a wholly different content altogether. Unless those Maxis CDs are on rewritables and they can scramble this late in the game rewriting it back into those CDs, they are coasters generally speaking, and obsolete by definition already.
