Hi all sifus,

I am planning to roll on the Maxis iValue 24m Plus 3 -- RM 155/month commitment, RM1260 for 8GB iPhone3G, 667Min Talk Time and 1GB Data.

Previously i am not really that hard rox into using phone internet services cause of the non-friendliness of my phone. But then i did change to x1, which is much more better -- but also, i did not subscribe to any data packages, so i am just using randomly.

My main question is, how much data usage or how heavy is it to use iPhone 3G with MSN/YM then sometimes goggling, facebook etc -- like frequently.. will it exceedd 1GB? or 1GB is more than enuf for surfing, msn/ym, gps on iphone3g per month ?

1GB is really a lot smile.gif I don't think I can even finish 500MB a month but again, that depends what you want to do with it. If you're full time surfing/you tube with your phone then perhaps 1GB can be fully utilized.

Well, 1GB should be fine and more than enough smile.gif You'll have plenty of fun with it for the first few months before getting bored and reverting to your home LCD monitor PC for Youtube and DVD movies (again) laugh.gif

Checked with Maxis KLCC just noe to be sure... they said as long as my both sent and received data usage (as stated in Iphone) dont exceed 500MB i dont have to pay any extra. Same goes to the calls...any local calls to any lines must not exceed 333 minutes (as stated in the Iphone as well).

Worry due to horror stories of certain members... Maxis charges

For data charges, that might sound right but for call minutes, it's not accurate to refer to the iPhone "Usage" screen. This is because calls are charged by blocks. I'm not sure if they are 1 min block (for the 333 mins free) or 15 secs. Assuming the block is 1 min each, even 3 seconds would be counted as 1 minute.

Hey buddy,

Did u download the data using iPhone or other 3G phone. I was being told by the salesman that the data package ties ONLY to iPhone but I reconfirm TWICE with other Maxis personel, one the person who activates my iPhone and another one, the call center, they both said that the data package can be used in other fone as long as it's a 3G fone. I tried surfing web with other 3G fone and I was being charged under OUTSTANDING BILL. The outstanding bill is charged above the RM100 commitment per month, can only know when the bill comes.

a) Salesman - data package ONLY for iPHone for RM100 commitment. If use other fone, it will charge RM5 per MB.

b) Maxis iPhone Activator and Call Center Personel - data package of RM100 commitment can be used on any other 3G fones. Over 500mb of data, Rm5 per MB will be charged.

So I dunno which is true now, A or B.

Daniel,

Can you please confirm that you can use the iValue package on other hardware (other 3G fone) and not being charged extra? Look at my previous message. Reason why I ask so much is because I got the package because of the fone, like yr wife but I do not want the data package, hence I passed the line to my wife to surf web on my LG-KS20. I only want the fone. So far, the fone is great!

just to clear here bro...

the data charge is follow sim card not phone this mean u can use the sim card to surf by using any phone as long as not more that the limit they provide for you.... don't worry about my early statement bout my bill shoot up to RM400++ that one is their system mistake now my bill up to date is just RM10++

one think t share is dont use more that RM50 for voice call (I-value 100 user)
if more then our bil at the end is not RM100 already and pls do register online for e-billing to waive for RM5 if not later they will send hard copy bill to yr house and kena buta to pay RM100+ 5% tax + RM5 (hard copy bill) sweat.gif

Thank you very much for clearing the air for me, bro Alexkwlee. This question has been haunting me since I got the iPhone and my wife is using the line on my other 3G fone (LG-KS20). I dare not ask her to surf web because the salesperson told me the data package ties to the iPhone and somehow, Maxis is able to detect the IMEI number of the hardware to charge accordingly.

I also just got the confirmation today by calling the Call-Center again! (for the 2nd time) and also, I have a friend using the Rm50 +50 family value package, telling me that Unbilled Amount will be deducted from commitment I use, as long as I dont shoot above 333 mins or 500mb data download.

Thank you.... yay, can surf web openly now with my other fone. biggrin.gif

PS: will register for ebilling right away!

the sale person just simply say thumbup.gif
just one thing i like to share with you, my fren bought a singtel iphone his case are same like yr wife mean the bill suddenly shoot up and he called maxis to cancel the 3G service but quite some time, maxis auto switch on the 3G without his concern...
he really damn vmad.gif last last follow below step(source took from lowyat ) :-

This is probably the most $$$ expensive problem most new iPhone users will encounter so it ranks #1 in this section. The EDGE connection is 'ON' by default on every iPhone. This will incur hefty charges to your phone bill if the connection is used by applications over long periods. If you actually want to use EDGE regularly though over 3G or Wi-Fi, you may want to look at signing up for unlimited data plans which you can ask your telco provider about.

Most of us don't use EDGE unless we need MMS functionality (Section 2: #??) so the fix is as follows.

a) For non jailbroken phones, enter any irrelevant text such as "nothing" or "disable" in the APN field (Settings> General> Network> Cellular Data Network> APN) to disable EDGE. Note: The technique of entering gibberish on the APN column might not work on the maxis network network anymore (since they are now the official malaysian carrier).
If u wanna change the APN, just swap it with another "non-official" service provider sim card (can do it while the phone is on) then go edit the APN setting to anything u want, and then swap back to "official" carrier sim card.

b) For jailbroken phones, you can download 'SBSettings' via Cydia and use those apps to disable EDGE. You can also use either of these apps to easily toggle On/Off for WiFi, SSH, 3G, etc.

Note that the EDGE (E) and GPRS (o) icons in the top-left corner of your iPhone screen will always be there whether or not EDGE is On/Off. So if you are feeling a bit antsy and just want to double check whether EDGE really is turned off, you can try loading a website in Safari or simply access your Weather application. Make sure 3G and Wi-Fi are also disabled. If an error message pops up saying there is no connection, you're safe.

Thanks for explaining. The iPHone is using DiGi line now and I just checked my DiGi, zero for GPRS. Yeah, when I run my Safari, it says NO DATA CONNECTION AVAILABLE, then it's fine. Thanks for sharing brother!

Anyone experiencing problem with the new iPhone? As in, unusually low reception and frequent disconnections with your line. Sometimes my friends can't even get me when my phone is on all the time. Or when we talk, got disconnections and like, sometimes they can hear me, then cannot hear, then can hear. I don't know if it's the phone problem or my SIM card problem. This is because when I changed to the new iPhone plan with Maxis I also gotten a new SIM card from them that can store more contacts.

Anyone experience this problem before and can help me relieve my problem? sad.gif
