Mm I originally posted this over in the poll thread, but here looks like a better place. These are my thoughts, constructive comments welcome.

Frankly IMO most of the forumers here are not the target market. The target market are those who are already heavy users/maxis subscribers.

I'm getting one, simply because the upper tier plans are more or less superior to my current value plus 250+unlimited data (RM99). So I'm paying RM349 per month (yeah, my usage is insane), let's compare with i-value 4.

I-value 4, I pay RM375 for 2500mins (RM250 of calls@10 sen/min) and 3GB data (RM125). So compared to my current plan I'm paying RM26 more a month for less-than-unlimited data. But I don't use 3GB of mobile data even, it's more for convenience. So we discount the less-than-limited data factor la.

Now, if I sign up for a 24-month contract, I'm basically paying RM26x24months+RM260 (upfront fee) = RM884 for an Iphone 3G 16GB. And remember the RM26 per month is over 24 months, so you have to discount it slightly for the time value of money. According to my math (IRR=5%) that makes it around RM840. Seems like a good deal to me.

Though I already have a HTC Touch HD, looks like my gf is getting an Iphone for her birthday. Oh well =p

iPhone to preview iPhone OS 3.0 on March 17th.

The last time this happens, close to a year ago, when iPhone OS 2.0 was previewed, the new iPhone 3G comes shortly after.

Heads up to those who doubted the fact that a new iPhone is coming generally, and those who doubted my own forecast cynically before. whistling.gif

Logic and history dictates. Keep up or zip up. Just saying..........

i've been using the iPhone 3G for about 2 months in the States since i stepped foot here in November. Heck i'm hooked on it and i must say it is very convenient here in the States.

So for prospect buyers of the new Maxis iPhone, go get it if you've been waiting 2 years for it. Yes there have been heavy rumors saying Apple will launch new iPhone on July and etc. If you can wait for it, by all means wait for it. But for what it's worth, imagine the wait you have to endure for it to reach our shore. It will be at least a month later before it finally hits our shore.

I'll get my piece of the Maxis iPhone when i'm back in Malaysia as my current piece will be nothing but an iPod touch with a camera; as mine is the locked set with AT&T, on baseband 2.30.03 (bummer).

So all in all, I guess it really depends on your usage and how you function daily with the iPhone. For me, I depend on it a lot and I guess having it to reach our shore officially is truly worth a wait, even if it's 2 yrs.

Just a thought, when you actually do calculate out the plans offered by Maxis, it maybe isn't that expensive, factoring in the fact you are paying for the phone PLUS paying for your monthly phone bill. Coupled with that, the rates offered by those plans actually seem very reasonable.

If you were to buy an iphone outright, and use a normal plan, over 24 months let's say, I doubt that the total amount you pay to get the phone and for ur monthly phone bill will be anywhere near what is offered by the iphone plans.

Please do correct me if I am wrong. Haven't got a calculator to actually key in the values, but from experience from plans offered in other countries, this is the case.

Hi, I'm just stating facts below so it's not a biased Maxis bash...For anyone evaluating iPhone plans this is a good resource:

http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2008/07/...really-need.ars

I've grabbed a table from it....

In the table below (seconds) represents a realistic estimate of what a 'typical' user may use of a service. This of course varies from person to person.

Bottom line is this.

If you get the cheaper Maxis plans, you will be able to do very basic surfing an email.
You will NOT be able to regularly use most of the heavy duty bandwidth stuff which makes the iPhone cool in the 1st place without killing your data usage.

Let me give you an example:

Last.FM - nope
YouTube - nope
Flickr - nope
Google Earth - nope
Downloading podcasts on the fly - nope
Downloading apps on the fly - nope

etc.

Alternative option: Get a NZ phone 8GB RM1,900 no carrier commitment - get yourself an unlimited 3G package then enjoy your iPhone like it was meant to be enjoyed.

Interesting way of seeing it. I too have similar consumptions as your own although I tend to use the unlimited data more (travelling outstation often with no convenient WiFi spots). My problem is indirectly related to the package. I have not found a way to set up the Iphone as a mobile modem and this means my data usage drops significantly. Unless I plan to use the Apple Store to make purchases often, I can't even be sure if I would be using up to 500MB of data (preferring to use a laptop to surf). Friedbeef's earlier post also makes me relook at the usage. My charges also include oversea calls and the cost of those calls cannot be included to the package.

I guess at the end of the day, this package isn`t for me.

OOT: Ironically, all this talk about packages has made me realise that my value plus 125 (75+50) can be cheaper. Went to find a Maxis consultant and managed to reduce my monthly commitment to 110 (50+30+30). So I`d propose that for those who are comparing their current rate with the Iphone, it is possible that ur current package is not optimized to be the most cost effective (that is to say have u evaluated what is the current Maxis package, what current package is more suitable for ur lifestyle and how does that compare to the Iphone package)

Not really, dont u tink we are "slightly" SPECIAL    wink.gif  ? iphone launching but there is no news a all in Apple Official Sites - http://www.apple.com/iphone/countries/
*
ahh yeah, just notice bout that. hooho... we r "special".
mmm, it's just myb but not necessarilly will.
btw, looks like we'll have to wait for the answer.

For those who says Malaysia getting Iphone stocks from Singapore... does that mean the iphone reference number will be Singapore's one too ? Do apple allow such thing ?

again, looks like we'll have to wait for the answer.

free iphone but need advance payment-that's the best joke i have ever heard also.....write free for what......
*
looks like it's more suited to existing maxis customer that got at least 6 months tenureship and minimum of RM250 monthly usage, as they dont have to pay the advance fee. but yeah it's not like a person that can affrod RM3xx monthly commitment cant afford for the high advance payment, in case the person is going to buy iPhone as a new maxis customer.
QUOTE(deodorant @ Mar 13 2009, 12:10 AM)
Was eagerly anticipating this, but after seeing the plans, not so interested. The deal-breaker for me is the plans are too fixed at voice/data. If maxis comes up with some more flexible plans skewed more towards high sms and high (or unlimited) data then I'll get one.
*
yup, i have to agree with u. some people want flexibility on their voice plan, while me myself prefers to unlimited data plan with add on existing value plan.
btw just noticed on maxis iphone page (on the fine print) that customer may sign up to Extra SMS (RM8 per month) in addition to any iPhone plans.

FYI , when i was in maxis klcc yesterday , the staff informed me that the booking online is only a mere booking eventhough u need to choose which type of plan u want ( e.g i-value 1 for 12 months plan ) .

Even though u have chose the plan for the Iphone , u can still change to i-value 1 for 24 months plan or also value plus 80 for 6 months , before collecting the phone. so for those who wanna get the phone but still dont know which plan to choose , just do your booking first beforehand and decide on the plan later, as u can still change the plans.
