Thanks!
If that's the case, it's better to take this plan instead of change to a new iValue plan then..
Correct me if I'm wrong..

By the way, do you guys think a 3GB data usage is sufficient.. for once-in-a-while facebooking and minimum browsing?
*
Whooa 3G is definitely more more than enough. Provided you're not tethering. Most of the apps on iPhone like Facebook, etc are very efficient in data usage. I can FB the entire day and still only use a few MBs. With 3GB probably you can do VOIP calls to other iPhone users and a lot of youtube. Youtube over iPhone is efficient too cause it only download the lower bitrate of video feeds (lower quality).

I think your plan is good enough. But in my opinion RM99 can buy you a full fledged personal mobile internet.

isn't it iphone 2g trade-in for RM1050 ?  blink.gif
*
Its actually meant for those old iPhones (be it 2G or 3G). With that trade-in you get the current iPhone 3G. No mention of 3G[S]. Also its up to RM1200 (some said its 1050). But on most occasion, the trade-in value is well below those rates. Probably the only time you get that RM1200 trade-in is when you walk in and get an iPhone 3G only to turn back and trade-it-in for another iPhone 3G. I know it sounds stupid but thats the best I can think off.

QUOTE(PeeEl @ Jun 10 2009, 02:26 PM)
You still have to commit yourself for either a 12 or 24 months contract for a RM30, RM50 or RM99 limited data plan. Only Prepaid Plan is without contract and you get 500MB/month data free for 12 months.
*
And you pay a fuller price too.

QUOTE(PeeEl @ Jun 10 2009, 06:49 PM)
It's happening but it is a one sided affair....they gain, you lose. The worst part as far as I am concerned is, not just for this but for all similar situations, someone plays God and decides on the value of your asset.

It might as well be a non event.
*
Its the same thing among mobile phone seller aka sharks in various shopping malls. When you trade in a phone, for sure they will quote a very low price for it. They control the pricing and inventory as such they have influence on the demand too. For Maxis's case, the iPhone is highly desirable, no doubt about it. Put it this way. You want it and you die to have it. Not the other way around. Because of this, Maxis can play a little game call reaping.

QUOTE(PeeEl @ Jun 10 2009, 11:37 PM)
I stated in my earlier posting that the rebate thingy might as well be a non event and the reason I said that is anyone would be able to fetch a higher price for their iPhone compared to what the 'Gods" in Maxis will offer. So, who would be silly enough to bring in their iPhone for a ridiculous trade-in price?

If Maxis wants to deplete their 3G stock to ready themselves for the 3GS', that is hardly the right marketing strategy.
*
Which is why I think that advert is meant to bring in those iPhone 2G who bought from the grey market in hope of getting them into the Maxis bandwagon. Maxis now riding on the 'get original, be safe' kinda thing. Trying to oust those grey importers by offering an 'safe passage' to the 'real thing' for these users.

But of course Maxis can't be paying one grand for an old iPhone 2G right... so they extend this offer to include iPhone 3G (even though its pointless) just so they can advertise a higher 'up to' trade in value of one grand++. This offer is here to stay in my opinion. When iPhone 3G[S] is eventually released here, it would be useful to attract existing iPhone 3G users (Maxis or grey imports). But it won't happen now because its not released yet.

With the release of iPhone 3G S, will the price of the iPhone in Malaysia drop? by how much?
*
Few possibilities, reduce iPhone 3G's price or price the iPhone 3G[S] higher or limit the iPhone 3G[S] on par for some new and expensive plans.

For iPhone 3G, they could maintain the 8GB variant kicking the 16GB since the latter is considered EOL in Apple's product line.

Most likely grey import leftovers. Is it a 2G or 3G? Guess with the local availability of iPhone, most conventional consumers would have go for the Maxis's offer. Which is why the price is grey imports are lower?

*
Its not smuggled. Its a grey import. Probably they brought it in from some country like any other AP phones. Or someone traded in the iPhone 3G and they refurbished it or something. The price usually shows off its 'real color' hehehehe! biggrin.gif

Check this link for more info: http://www.maxis.com.my/personal/iphone/where1.asp

There's different rates:

2G 8GB to 3G 8GB or 3G 16GB
Fullbox with all hardwares: RM 390
Phone with headset: RM 290

2G 16GB to 3G 16GB
Fullbox with all hardwares: RM 430
Phone with headset: RM 330

*just to add on: Trade in only valid from 28thMay till 18th June
*
So that means there is zero chance for hopes in trading up for 3G[S]? See guys, its only 2G --> 3G or maybe 3G --> 3G.

I concur with string. They will not trade up for a 3GS. As for the 3G to 3G trade in, here you go:

3G 8GB to 3G 8GB : Rm 900
3G 16GB to 3G 16GB: RM 1200
*
No guys, you've misunderstood my point. DG mentioned the trade-in thing is until 18 June 2009. I believe the iPhone 3G[S] is after this period. So when iPhone 3G[S] is released, the trade-in period would have ended. So there's no trade-in whatsoever. So this trade-in period is only valid for 2G to 3G or 3G to 3G. Ok? Get it now? biggrin.gif

Are you saying that after June 18th, Maxis is gonna come up with trade-in for 3G-->3G[S]? Or after June 19th, Maxis is gonna release the 3G[S]? From the keynote, was already revealed that Maxis is lumped together with the telcos who will get the 3G[S] shipment in July.
*
No. You see... a lot of people has been hoping that the trade-in advertisement will be covering the upgrade path to the new 3G[S]. Wishful thinking you see. So now that the promotion will end in 18 June 2009, there's no such thing for a trade-in for 3G[S] as when the 3G[S] is available, there's no trade-in already. Am I getting it right now?

So no, I don't think why Maxis should come out with a new trade-in promotion. If it intended to cover the new 3G[S] then it wouldn't have mentioned the promotion is only until 18 June 2009. It would have continue with the promotion until after 3G[S]. Probably that is a strategy to move out all the iPhone 3G variants before the 3G[S] comes out. Looks like Maxis knew about it all this while.

Ahhhh gotcha. Although for the bolded sentence, even if they do know about it beforehand, look at their negotiation skills. Me being my pessimistic self would find it hard to believe that Maxis being on-track on things. This is among the few things that I'd love to be proven wrong. laugh.gif
*
Yeah true also. But I had an impression that if Maxis joined into 'the club' of Apple recognized telcos, it would have access to some information. I mean Maxis is kinda like one of Apple's partners now, so they would have to share some kind of road map (if it ever exist). I do know Apple's road map is super secretive though.

Hahaha yeah, maybe Maxis is a tier 2 or one of those lower priority ones. Hehehehe... yeah...

QUOTE(nokia2003 @ Jun 13 2009, 04:14 PM)
even IF maxis ran out, they have access to tonnes of refurbished units (packed in those yucky brown boxes with distinctive serial numbers)
really???!!! nice try. furthermore, if speed isn't a concern, i'll be well contented with my kancil 1.0cc engine.
*
Yeah, a lot of people had the first thing in their mind upon seeing the same design as something of a refresh. Meaning there is not much of a difference. All the physical features are the same (from the outside). HOWEVER, what is changed is beneath the hood. OK, not many people know what a Cortex A8 can do. So what... they say.

I say, what people will notice with the release of iPhone 3G[S] would be a sudden enrichment onto the content. Granted that both the 3G and 3G[S] (also 2G) will be entitled to the same OS update, most of the transitions are the same, etc. BUT I can say that the games and content will be way cooler on 3G[S]. You will see the goodness of a 3G[S] when some games/apps are only compatible with 3G[S].

So if you don't give a damn about games and apps, then maybe 3G[S] would do much for you. In fact all the processing potential would be wasted.

well i do have buyer remorse until certain level caused by two ip3gs upgrades: improved battery life and process speed which i wished for a solution for batt life. Nothing more and nothing less...
*
Well at least for the battery life, you can swap the internal battery pack to something of a higher capacity. We do have battery maintenance service offered with a higher capacity pack no? Of course, it won't be original. But then the warranty period may be well exceeded when the battery dies.

The new iPhone 3G[S] will be available shortly and that will be next month. For more information you can try our stickies and FAQ. No iValue plans have been revealed by Maxis for this new iPhone yet.

A lot of centers do have them. But keep it to the major ones and also at prominent locations like shopping center. Official Machines store also have stock. They can do Maxis registration too (if not mistaken). Also there's a RM20 voucher for you to spend on accessories and others.

probably an iPhone compatible video, consisting of gals in tight-lacy-bra-exposing-white/green-shirts-clad-in-extremely-short-denim-mini-skirts-with-a-seductive-smile, giving you a very descriptive presentation on how awesome is maxis' after sale customer service and how they are paying attention to all your iPhone needs
rumour has it that, telekom is currently laying down the infrastructure for the upcoming HSBB and hence causing the decrease in speed.
*
Wahahaha, your imaginery maxis girl thing again.

By the way, I got my CD already and that was right after replying few posts before hehehe... nothing really special with it. But after going through the CD content and printed materials, I guess I understand the reason behind this. Not many people is as techie as we are. Guess Maxis's target consumers are the average mobile user and these users don't usually have a clue on how to update and most would just flock into Maxis center like they would to SE, Nokia centers for firmware upgrade.

So providing a CD complete with instructions are a good thing. Not many people use iTunes and of course without iTunes their iPhone is a phone without iPod. Probably they don't sync often. And they won't get the update message. I'm sure we've seen a lot of newbies asking how to update to 3.0. So Maxis is really doing themselves a favor and avoiding potential tech support calls. Or probably they realize with their 'special prices' on their plans, this is the least they can do to give a good impression to their customers.

Of course, it doesn't make sense to us cause we already know.
