Alright.

I don't know about mapking, but I'll show you how to install Garmin.
Just don't ask me how to crack it.

1) Go to GARMIN and download:
i) Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile, Ver. 5.00.20w, as of Sep 25, 2008
ii) Garmin Mobile XT Free Basemap, Ver. 4.xx.xx, as of Apr 19, 2007
iii) Garmin Mobile XT Support Files, Ver. 4.xx.xx, as of Jul 11, 2007

2a) Go to MalSingMaps (need registration) and download:
i) Free S'pore & West M'sia Map
and/or ii) Free East M'sia Map
On you PC, click the .exe file and install it to your Desktop. You'll have gmapsupp.img on your Desktop.
Edit (additional information): If you intend to use both maps, please rename the 1st gmapsupp.img to gmapsup2.img, before running the 2nd installer. Yes, change the last p to 2.

OR

2b) Go to MalFreeMaps and download:
i) MFM v1.52 (6 Apr 2009)
Follow the instruction HERE to extract the map.

3) Connect your Omnia to your PC with a USB cable and wait for ActiveSync to connect.

4) When ActiveSync connected, start Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile, Ver. 5.00.20w, as of Sep 25, 2008 from your PC.

5) When installer ask where you like to install Garmin, choose My Storage or Storage Card. If the first time the installer can't find your device, just click search for device and it will seach again.

6) When installation completes. Unpluck your Omnia from your PC and soft-reset your Omnia. When ask whether to start Garmin in between this, choose no. No need to run it now, as there are nothing inside it.

7) After your Omnia restarted, connect it to your PC again, as in step 3.

8) Run Garmin Mobile XT Free Basemap, Ver. 4.xx.xx, as of Apr 19, 2007 followed by Garmin Mobile XT Support Files, Ver. 4.xx.xx, as of Jul 11, 2007. No need to reset in between.

9) Then copy the extracted gmapsupp.img and/or gmapsup2.img from your Desktop into \My Storage\Garmin\ folder or \Storage Card\Garmin\ folder, depanding where you installed the Garmin MXT.

10) If you don't want Garmin MXT to ask you to run it eveytime you start your Omnia, go to your Omnia's My Storage or Storage Card with your File Explorer and delete the autorun folder named 2577.

DONE.

To learn more, regarding combining maps, please go to MalSingMaps or MalFreeMaps.

If you have not try to meddle with your Omnia's GPS setting, leave it as default.
If you did and forgotten the setting, they are:

GPS program port: COM3
GPS hardware port: COM9
Baud rate: 4800
Access: Check Manage GPS automatically (recommended)

It is a full version, only thing is that it will not work (with your device's GPS) if you don't pay for it.
You can still use it to browse the maps or do a stimulation though.

uh hu, thats the answer im looking for.
maybe u can mentioned this in your guide to clear things up for newbie like me. heh

those who are using garmin, mayb u guys can solve my misery:

whenever i toggled into garmin mode, i lost my battery status on the top utility bar, meaning i do not now how much does my batt left, this is ridiculously dumb cos i might risking to lost the gps guidance when the batt runs flat.

what should i do to view my batt? some hacking utilities or other skin/theme will do? upgarde firmware?
or flashing WM6.5rom ftw?

-edited-

ok i noticed this happened not only when i called up garmin...
i only get the batt to show up in "home" screen, whenever i i go into menu, or any application, the batt will be missing.
also i cant see the batt status bar when i was charging, it only shows a charging sign, so i do not know if the charging is complete or not.

bravo omnia! *thumbs down* for ya

yea im new to WM, i was a palm & symbian UIQ user before this.
i still remembered that my 1st pda-phone device was an A6188 & 1st palm was plamIIIxe, both took me some while to get used to, but WM6 is miles away behind from them if talk about ergonomics shakehead.gif

u use gps while walking yamato? i place my omnia right above the aircond vents in my car so it would get extra cooling smile.gif
*
nop, i use it whilst driving.
usually i place it at dashboard since lack of cradle... but it slips whenever i take a sharp corner thus i hav to manually recorrect the position. thats y i got contact to it very often.

the aircond vent idea is brilliant!
but the omnia screen is hardly visible under direct sunlight, the glare is soooooo bad. that is also the reason i hide it in the dashboard wer it gets shaded. lol

-edited-
some tweaks on gps, be warned tho, messing with registry is on your own risk.
QUOTE
There are numerous things that we can do to improve the GPS functions of our phone.

The Omnia, by default has a debug log running. This uses almost 10MB of memory and slows down the lock time. We don't need to be debugging so we'll disable it.

1. Go to Settings > System > Enhanced GPS and set both settings to "Disable"
2. Go to your device's registry, and see the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\GPS Intermediate Driver
3. Change the following string values to nothing (don't delete them, just edit them and clear the value):
CurrentLogFile (originally \GPSID_log.txt)
OldLogFile (originally \GPSID_log.bak)
4. Soft-reset your device
5. With File Explorer, go to My Device, and delete the two GPSID_log files you see. If you don't soft-reset, you will not be able to delete some of them.
6. Check again the registry setting. Sometimes in rare cases it may revert the settings back. Ensure that the registry entries are clear and both files are deleted.

Next, we'll want to enhance the A-GPS (XTRA). As most of you know, this normally uses GPRS to help lock and costs you money. Not any more. The XTRA file needs to be updated every 3 days or so. XTRA works by getting a current position list of all world satellites. The GPS you have installed in your Omnia can then use this info to track the satellites rather then have to search for the, increasing lock speed.

There is now a new version of the XTRA screen which has some nice options...

Download at bottom of post...

What we can now do is enable the XTRA to only update whilst connected to ActiveSync or WiFi which is effectively free.

To install, simply overwrite the GPS_XTRA.exe file in \Windows with this one. You may need Total Commander, etc.

Next, we need to change the location from which XTRA receives it's updates, most likely your Omnia came with the default (now not working) test.agps.com

Open you registry editor and go to HKLM\ Software\Samsung\RIL\GPS

Change your server address to xtra1.gpsonextra.net

That's it, probably no harm in a soft reset about now. Try out the GPS. My IG08 is now locked as soon as the program loads via GPSGATE.

well im new to gps thingy but i do believe 7275 is a port (more like a pc or server port to DL the bin file for satellite orbit & respective info)
if test.agps.com works well, then so be it, no need to change ip smile.gif
