I wonder if Omnian here modified their interface or installed lots of nice softwares/games, perhaps it is good idea to post screenshot to share. It is good exchange tips to improve the userability, especially those first time touch screen users.

Previous thread has some nice screenshot. check the V2 esp

Guys,

I can't connect to the internet thru wifi. previously ok but now suddenly it won't connect. When I turn on wifi, it will take sometime to get a connection. Then it will say "Connected" but when I surf the internet it will run down my credits. Afterall the signal still showing 3G meaning it's actually connected to the network provider.

What causes this? could it be because of few drops occured to my lovely omnia previously? huhu..

What about the wifi settings? it is "access point" and connect to "internet" isn't?

Well I wish to not resorting to install an application only for that purpose because previously it went allright.

Probably yeah I'll update to IA5 anyway so it will hard reset as well. currently still on HK3

Added on April 8, 2009, 10:58 amFellas,

Several of the problems that I haven't found a way to solve it:

1. Touch player sometimes shut down itself when played in full screen mode. Could it be due to memory leak?

2. Video recording in MMS mode depends on what? program memory? because it seems that the lower the ROM, the shorter duration of MMS I can take right now..any workaround on this?

Added on April 8, 2009, 11:07 amAdd: Some more problems:

1. Streaming player - I have never use it succesfully..usually it says time-out..I end up using coreplayer instead to watch youtube..how come others can?

2. Not a problem of the omnia per se.. but I would love to know whether when someone calls us, the etiquette pause can be prolonged even when we face the phone again.right now it will stay ringing even we move the phone an inch towards us.
Kinda envy 5800 has this feature that stay silent even you look at the screen. This way we can have the option to see who's calling, and whether to reject or ignore

1. touch player hangs? never encounter unless the video resolution too high~~ but 640 X  480 should be ok~ anything more than that will caused lagging, another reason probably the codec, for video playing the best is still use coreplayer.

2. video recording usually unlimited, if u recording only not sending, but when sending mms will got limited time and file size, just like ur sms limitation

3. streaming player not suitable to run flv files from youtube, unless its a mobile youtube that plays 3gp format

4. so far nope no alternative~

hope those answers ur questions
*
Gee..thanks.. rclxms.gif no 3 explained the things..but well just imagine, the name itself is streaming player..of course ppl will confuse..since it suppose to do it's job.."streaming" smile.gif

1. Nope..not hang..but close itself..but only when i play in fullscreen mode..problem is, it doesn't happen everytime. usually, the next time I play it will be fine..almost the same case like camera last time la - when it cannot take pic due to so-called low memory, sometimes ok sometimes not.

2. but still, to what extent is the limitation? currently, at most I can take only 3sec of MMS only..so malu.. cry.gif ..my previous cheaper phones can take much longer than that..

4. Thanks..but I think probably we can mod the registry..just not sure and dare to do it..

huh? my phone hold the "main menu" button will not bring out task manager.

to bring out task switcher, use your finger nail (not thumb) press the center of the bottom bar (the bar left side is "phone", right side is "main menu") and hold, and slide upward 2cm, and release. i'm sure your Omnia also can, as long as it's DZIA5 rom.

the main purpose is to kill all background application only ma,
so can call task switcher out, then press right side bottom bar "end all task". done.  laugh.gif

doesn't need to be IA5..previous ROMs also can..just need to practice

Added on April 9, 2009, 9:20 amGuys, I realize that the signal strength is not as good as other phone..In this case I'm comparing it with my wife's 5800..which at our home almost constantly receiving 3.5G..while mine switching on and off between 3G, E and G..only sometimes receiving 3.5..I don't know could this be due to some hard dropping that my omnia has received or simply the nature of the phone itself..

so the golden question is, do we have any software that can boost or capture the signal strength..I need this as I'm a frequent video caller..without 3G yillekk la..

I have googled but nothing concrete comes in yet..only there is something called OnSpeed..but not really sure..anyone?Baronic?

no3. yup but streaming externally flash adobe codec is not free for mobile phone unlike flash player i think thats why the builtin streaming player not supporting the format, the major file for streaming is still 3gp format. this one need ask our sifu sifu that know well things about these. normally youtube can be viewed direct from web browser hehe

1. low memory problem no idea, never encounter such, but from what i know, you better check if u got sync media files or not, sometimes if u open windows media player which using active sync will caused them to automatically snyc music files into ur phone memory (not into ur my storage but in ur default folder)

2. never counted those video file size i sent, but surely more than 3 sec, did you try do some setting to mms?
u go ur messaging > mms option > go to the end got one option "compose" > change ur mms class to moderate video > then go to "sending" option change message size to 295k instead of 95k
*
I don't know.usually when I click the video, the streaming player will pop up.so I was forced to use that player instead.

1. I'm pretty sure I haven't sync media before when this problem happen.nvm thanks anyway. still have coreplayer and windows player when touch player down.

2. Oh yeah..tqvm..I forgot to change the setting after ROM update..meaning I get back the same duration like last time.which is only 11 sec..pretty mediocre to me actually compared to other phones

On the signal/data booster..anyone have any idea whether such application exists? I realized with soft reset, signal will be better.mostly due to the receiver trying hard from reboot to get the best signal..but when idle sometimes even G cannot be detected.. shocking.gif

i don't think got such software,
if boost up the signal, that will drain your battery drastically.
if not mistaken, when u connected to a video call, the phone will automatically boost up the 3G signal.  unsure.gif

I always manually disconnect the 3G connection at Data Call Manager each time after not using the 3G,
as to save my battery power when i'm in weak 3G signal area,
luckily the phone doesn't re-connect back for me.  tongue.gif

This few days keep on playing my Omnia,
no chance to really test the battery life of Omnia since i bought it.
Since now quite busy with other thing, so can really make a test on my Omnia standby time d.
So far, i found that after fully charge it, the first battery bar (10%) can last for 20 hours standby time! (with moderate use)
that is quite near to my E71 battery performance.  drool.gif  Amazing.

but hopefully the remaining battery bar standby time is same with the first bar,
now still until testing,
if standby time for each bar is same, it should at least last for 5 days !  laugh.gif
hopefully... ...
*
NOpe..when there is no 3G around even the video call option will not be available.

mine last only two days..heavy user on gps

x2..I'm confused as well at first..

NOw guys, our omnia supposed to be capable of playing xvid/divx format movie. BUt which player supposed to be imbedded with that function?

I tried play AVI with Xvid Codec with coreplayer, touch player and windows media player to no avail.

Any good player capable of playing it? How frustrated I am for not able to play with so-called divx certified gadget..

Or should I change any setting in the coreplayer? Think heard someone play with the setting and managed to get it through.

So far other movies like Transformers works fine even with AVI format but with DX50 codec.

anyone please? unsure.gif

Thanks but I've got the movie played flawlessly using media player. Weird enough, after changing some settings the coreplayer can't play it but windows media player can. 14 movies in omnia and counting.. rclxms.gif

p/s: divx player for windows PC is a crap one..you can see stripes all over

Actually, no need to wait for the updater to start. The actual update takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
Older official versions need the modem driver, but newer versions don't need anymore.

Since you are having difficulty updating, it is better you update at Samsung Service Center. Don't look for trouble.
Unless you want to take the risk and try Custom ROMs.  laugh.gif

If you decide to flash to Custom ROM, please read and make sure you fully understand the instruction posted where you get the ROM. There will be no garantee if you bricked your device.

Thanks..which I had done it anyway..went to the centre and updated it.

BUT...a BIG BUT....I've learned a hard lesson today!!!!

Never knew the spb backup is toooo powderful that it backed up ALL..I meant all including part of the previous ROM!!!

so instead of getting IA5/IA5 i got a combo of IA5/HK3 instead!!! what a fooooool I am.. cry.gif cry.gif

now I lost all the new programs in the new ROM as well as losing the widget as well..

cry.gif cry.gif

I'm lazy to go back to the centre again la...huhu..a HARD LESSON indeed.. cry.gif

SpriteBackup can also do this. Basically it backup the System as well. A Hard Reset will solve that problem. To avoid this from happening again, uncheck "System" when backing up.

Are you able to get IA5/IA5? I though it is only IA5/IA2

As explained by Omnian,

PDA : i900DXIA5/DZIA5
PHONE : i900DXIA2

I'm using that version right now..but donno I believe the keys quite small la..and quite prone to mistake as well..even with the pop-up letters.

I have used 5800 landscape keyboard. pretty fast, no lagging and much bigger than our Omnia's landscape one..perhaps that's why rarely i have typo using the 5800 keyboard

p/s:

anyone here know which part of the volume setting should be adjusted so that when we play movie thru the TV-out, the volume is not suck soooo much? Is it the speaker or the headset? please guide!

I watched LOTR3 in anger cos sometime I need to make sure I'm not more than 1m from TV only to hear the dialogue..sigh..when the characters yelled only then I hear what they are talking.. rclxub.gif
