Guys,

Currently I am using the Gatsby Styling Wax Mat type. I've actually been using it for years and years. I can no longer stand the smell and the finish...due to my hair type I end up having to use a lot so it's impossible to get a matte finish . So I am looking out for a new hair wax to try out.

I've got extremely thick coarse straight hair that is cut short and I spike up the front a little and mess up the top a bit. The only reason why I stuck to the Gatsby was because of its ability to hold down my hair. Other products I have used over the years just can't keep the hair in style.

I'm thinking of getting Osis Flexwax. Any other suggestions ?

Have you tried Gatsby moving rubber? its alot easier to apply compared to gatsby wax as wax is very solid while the moving rubber more liquid..

Yup tried Moving Rubber before (Grey) and it was too weak for my hair...I needed a lot to style my hair. The regular size one lasted me around 2 weeks.

I ended up getting Osis Mess Up Matt Gum. It got quite a few raves on this thread but I am disappointed with it TBH. When initially applied it made my hair look really nice and held the style well..2-3 hrs later and its over...my fringe starts to fall and I got to restyle again. Luckily I got the Osis Mess Up for RM28 only. phew.

Anyone tried the Osis Flexwax or Marsh Mellow before ? I'm not giving up on Osis just yet.

I don't.

I just use minimal amount of wax to hold the shape. Anything more will make my hair heavy and fall.

I wish my hair could be like that. My hair is extremely hard and straight...so hard that a single strand of hair can pierce the skin like a wood splinter. No joke...it just happened to me this morning. I had to use a tweezer to get it out of my palm.

What shampoo do you use? And how often do you shampoo?
Is your hair damaged? Or is it like that naturally?

My hair is very healthy actually...the thickness and hardness is natural.

@kinkymacy,

OSiS Flexwax is really good. Good holding power and u can restyle anytime without problems. U can get for around RM28 (50g) fr LYN sellers.

I just got a haircut after work and bought Amby Hex Matt Scraper for RM9.90 (100g). Initial impressions r quite good. good holding power but there is shine unlike what the product claims. I guess I may have used a lil too much.

Thru my exp, Osis products r generally hair friendly to a certain degree. But the downside is their holding power is weaker compared to other brands.

Its really a hassle sometimes to buy these professional range hair care products like Osis.

There is just no standardized pricing. ceiling price for Osis Mess Up is RM57. but each salon n supply shop will have diff pricing. sometimes can get as low as RM28 for Mess Up.

I know got one LYN seller that gives good prices for Osis products but his shop all d way at Times Square. I stay in PJ.

Just d other day i called one shop at Tropicana City Mall coz i wanted to buy Mess Up. one box RM 33. went over a few days later n it was sold out d. waste time n petrol only go there.

I checked Shins but their prices r high. RM40 for Mess Up. K Care Shop no stock.

So u guys know any place in PJ that sells Osis products at low prices ?

try to check out those small saloon accessories shop. I went the one in Taman Desa, the lowest price i can find in KL.

I tried shins, K Care n Top Passion. Shins expensive even after discount. K Care n Top Passion no stock atm.

I'll take note of tmn desa but doubt i'll go coz its far for me.

i know Sg Wang got many salon supply shop with good prices. dunno ori or not the Osis stuff.

Why preference only for Osis? Are their products good? Looking for a suitable hair product as well  smile.gif

I have used some of their products on n off for a few yrs d. but due to factors like price n availability i found it too much hassle to continue wit Osis so i use moving rubber. But Osis products that I used (Mess Up, Flexwax n Session hair spray) all very good for me.

but i couldn't stand d smell of Moving Rubber anymore. gatsby moving rubber (pink) after 2 yrs of daily use pretty much sucked lo. extremely hard to wash off, hard to restyle, shiny n caused me some hair loss.

QUOTE(FatCatLaLOT @ Apr 8 2013, 08:55 PM)
Don't use gatsby hair clay or wax. My brother who works in a saloon says many of his male customers rambut cannot be wash cleanly because using gatsby product. So when they want to dye/straighthen/etc. the rambut turns rosak and split ends, plus the desired outcome not achievable.
*
i can attest to this. i have to shampoo 2 times (sometimes 3) to get out moving rubber fr my hair. hair also like damaged.

Then what products do u recommend then?

But guys, what if u just abandon ur hair products and just use water? Can u just use that with ur hair?  biggrin.gif
*
if i style with just water i would have to wet my hair every 15mins.

coz i have very thick very straight coarse hair. sticks up a lot too even when medium length especially the sides. so i have to use some kind of product. if not i will look like durian. i have not gone out without a cap or product in my hair for more den a decade. except a few months last year when i potong botak. even when play futsal i apply some product.

A decade  yawn.gif . Anyway u do read that people say that using too much hair products would cause hair loss. So since u have been using hair products almost every day for a decade, how's ur hair so far?
*
still very black, very thick n very coarse biggrin.gif no change fr when i started styling my hair back in high school.

i discovered my bro uses Sebastian Craft Clay.

applied some on my washed n conditioned air dried hair.

scrapped some out, put between my palms n rubbed palms together. den applied to hair n started styling.

i dun get the hype. doesn't seem matte or shiny. reminds me of Gatsby clay. d hold is nothing to shout about either.

i get better results with my Osis Mess Up or Flexwax; even though the hold aint very good.

I guess the older Crude Clay was much better ?

Osis Session extreme hold hair spray, no. 3 strong control. this one is my fav. bit expensive but can really hold ur hair well.

300ml - prices vary fr shop to shop. on average around RM30-35 after discount.

500ml - prices vary fr shop to shop also. after discount shud be in the RM45-50 range.

Strong hold? Will it damaged hair?

as long as u wash it off at night with shampoo n use conditioner it shud be fine i guess. but i dun use hair spray on a daily basis...only use it if im out for long hours or important function.

this Osis Session hair spray is one of the more natural looking ones. other cheaper ones although stronger makes d hair crunchy to the touch.

i been giving more attention to the products i use for my hair these past weeks.

last time i just use whatever shampoo n conditioner my mum buys. This past year it was Sunsilk (yellow range). Then i tried Loreal Smooth Intense. pretty decent range at affordable prices. Then i went back to Sunsilk again. Afta few months the scent really made me nauseous. So i decided to try something new.

Went n bought the Schwarzkopf Extra Care Hydro Collagen shampoo n conditioner. 1st few times it was ok but after a week my hair seems to be covered in a layer of sticky stuff. but my hair didn't become extra soft , still poofy. plus the scent was too strong. can last one whole day.

Just now i went to Guardian n bought Shiseido Tsubaki Shining shampoo n conditioner (red color range). right out of the bottle the scent was really flowery n strong. i started to regret. conditioner also d same. but after applying n rinsing off the shampoo n den conditioner, my hair really smooth n soft. the scent less strong n very calming. doesn't bother me at all.

Only drawback about Tsubaki so far is the price n availability. RM32 for a 500ml bottle (same for shampoo n conditioner)...about RM10 more den other brands. but got smaller sizes too. I think only the bigger Guardian n other pharmacies carry a lot of stock.

I hope Tsubaki will work for me.

IF u think Shiseido Tsubaki is expensive, why don't u stick to Loreal?

But one thing I notice though, the ones sold here is Loreal Elseve Smooth Intense. We are talking about the dark orange bottles right?  The one with Argan Oil+Silk Protein and the one with Nutrileum+Silk Protein(transparent bottle).

But if u do a Google Search for Loreal Elseve Smooth Intense, the name now seems to be Loreal Elvive
*
i wanted to try something new.

yes the ones in the dark orange bottles. locally and in SEA its known as Loreal Smooth Intense. a few yrs bak it was known as Elseve Smooth Intense.
