I have stuck up upon one website and it's about Bacchus guitar . But for the knob,It's not only for Bacchus but it's basically just for my knowledge .

What's the difference if the bass only have Master Tone , Rear Volume and Front Volume

and a bass with Master Volume, Pickup Balancer, Treble EQ and Bass EQ

I'm kinda interested in this one with a black oil finish

Bacchus Standard 4 ( 4 knobs ) ( Active ) AUD2250

Woodline Ash 4 ( 3 knobs ) ( Passive ) AUD1900

Price Difference - AUD300-500 ( Not Yet get discount )

The black finishes with look something like this ( Notice there's 4 knob )

Personal use : I will be using a Roland Cube 30 Bass Amp during practice

Gig : I'll get a 50-60Watt amp with the basic controls such as Master,Treble,Boost,High End,Low End and stuffs.

Which one will be the best one ? ( I know more expensive , more knobs will be better but it's expensive )

if im not mistaken, and if this is standard among all basses:

4 knobs = active (need battery)
3 knobs = paassive (no battery)

not necessarily. i personally dont like having 2 volume knobs cuz i have this habit of rolling down the volume knob when i'm not playing..

Basses with passive electronics will have volume control for both pickups (for J & P/J configs).. They allow blending between both pickups with the means of regulating their individual volume.. No pickup selector switches like guitars here...

Basses with active electronics (which the pickups themselves are not active, just that there's an onboard preamp to provide better EQ and range) however comes with a pickup balancer (most basses) and bass, treble and sometimes mid cut/boost knobs.. The pickup balancer uses a different way of blending by panning the volume between the 2 pickups, which means you have better control over the sweet spot between the 2 pickups.. And because you have an active preamp, you get to actually boost (add more gain) to treble, bass or mids for the output tone unlike passives that only cuts...

Overall, actives are louder and have clearer response over a wider frequency spectrum ( lower lows, higher highs)... So there you go, hope that clears things up... smile.gif

get the 4 knobs
u may upgrade the electronics later easily

volume / blend / stacked-bass-n-treble control / mid control
or the volume /volume version

with 3 knobs...i might need to further drilled in...

If you have a good amp with proper balance and EQ in front of the amp, passives are just as good... just that you don't have a couple more tone controls onboard your guitar... wink.gif

jz a reminder, acitve pup doesnt necesarry sound louder than passive pu
as oppose...passive pu usuali has a hotter output

with an active preamp in the cavity can make it active with passive pups...
and an interesting thing is wen u hav an active/passive switch smile.gif

get an amp like 100w above...u wunt regret it
60w is abit too low...even wen u push up the volume max...
the notes wil get distorted and harm ur speaker....

I'm using a Active system bass now . 100w is too expensive to me , Still a student here. We'll see what I can do on this coming Thursday in the instrument store.
