Manage to borrow a Benq 1620 retail version from friend and flash it to latest firmware B7M9...(luckily the flashing is successful, else my friend will kill me)

Test Setup..

(1). PC - Intel 1.6a@2.133/ Asus P4PE / 1GB RAM / 15GB Hardisk Primary Master / 40GB Hardisk Primary Slave / plus multiple external USB hardisk
(2). Benq 1620 in Secondary Master / an old 12xDVD-ROM in Secondary Slave
(3). OS - Windows XP SP1
(4). Buring Program - Ha! CD/DVD burning software (lastest version Dec 2003)
(5). DVDr media used - 8x DVD+R (Philips certified 8x media)
(6). Burning speed - 12x (this media can overspeed in Benq 1620 writer)
(7). Scanning software - CDSPEED v3.42

BENQ DW1620
Version: G7M9 27-10-2004

http://support.benq.com/files/storage/Firm...DW1620/B7M9.zip

The firmware is officially on the website.

Release Reasons:

1. Support higher PI/PO/Jitter reading speed with certain software. (DVDInfo Pro v3.32 & CD-DVD Speed v3.42)
2. Support media TE/FE signal detection with BenQ special tool.
3. Modified the writing strategy for TY [TAIYO YUDEN] CD-R media.
4. Fixed the compatibility issue with n-Force IDE driver.

=================================

Test Setup..

(1). PC - Intel 2.6a/ MSI 865pe / 512MB RAM 3200 / 60GB Hardisk Primary Master / 120GB Hardisk Primary Slave
(2). Benq 1620 in Secondary Master
(3). OS - Windows XP SP1
(4). Buring Program - NERO 6.6.0.1
(5). Scanning software - CDSPEED v3.42

example of BAD DISC !!

user posted image

Things to look close at: PO Failures, means uncorrectable errors and uncorrectable errors make the disc unreadable. As we could see there are a lot of PO failures on this disc indicating that it's completely unreadable. And both PI Errors and PI Failures are way off as we could see, and thus CD-Speed correctly gives it a quality score of 0. If anyone wonders: The disc is an Infosmart 8x DVD-R using a stolen Taiyo Yuden media code.

To keep it straight:

There should never be PO Failures on a disc, after some testing we have found that for PI Failures a good guideline is that the maximum value should not exceed 10 and for PI Errors it should not exceed 100. Also keep an eye on the quality score reported by CD-Speed, the higher the better .

PI Error/PI Failures the lower the better

Jitter cannot more than 15% ...else cannot play in dvdplayer

After you flash the firmware ( not without its risks tongue.gif ) you would have
changed the default factory settings of the drive that you got, be it retail or OEM. Changing any default settings or firmware would also mean
that its not like how you got it. In short, yep it'll void ya warranty tongue.gif

Right tongue.gif , Let me rephrase my sentence then.
If you flash a hacked firmware or any non official released
firmware on your drive you will void its warranty sweat.gif .
Hope that's correct laugh.gif
