Thank you Ryan, where is this shop, if you don't mind telling me?

the tamron 90mm f2.8 mainly for potrait only?
LOL.    icon_question.gif  notworthy.gif thanks.

Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro is never meant for portrait. It's a macro lens. Portrait lenses are like 85mm f1.4.

i heard thats a common problem on the sp90..
but it might b due to my postprocessing..all the 3 pics were heavily gaussian blurred as per the girls request...my later pics with sp90 looks okay to me..
Is it? I've never owned a SP90 before. Have you tried sending back for calibration or something? I don't think it's due to post processing as if you see the 3 pictures, it's sharper on the clothes instead of the eye of subject. .

Front focus is a lens defect whereby your lens tend to focus slightly in front of the focus point you intend to focus.

The burnt out skin tone and the harsh shadow is a nono. Use a reflector or flash?

Too much empty space on the top, perhaps you could try shooting horizontally so that the shadow of batman will be captured into the frame as well? smile.gif

No, what I meant was, perhaps you could use a reflector to fill in the flash. I'm not saying that there's a reflector in the internal flash biggrin.gif

btw. what is the different using 2x teleconverter and using extension tube? if teleconverter it will multiply the focal range right, eg 2x t/c on 18-70 will be 36-140. am i correct? f stop also multiply by 2? what abt ext tube?
*
Extension tubes are meant for macro.

Teleconverters are meant for shooting far subjects. Yes, it does multiplies the f number and focal length.

I'll go for Siggy 70-200mm f2.8 Macro HSM anytime. The sharpness comparison between both lens is not that significant. Even if you assume that Tammy is sharper, I would rather take Siggy for it's superb fast focusing speed rather than having a slow turtle speed Tammy which hunts badly in low light resulting you hardly can get a nice pic.

For events, fast focusing is very crucial. smile.gif

<noob talk>

how come bro? cos the angle enables us to focus more on subjects rather then 50mm which kinda aloows more of the bg in the photo?

</noob talk>
85mm gives you creamier bokeh. smile.gif

QUOTE(achew @ Mar 17 2009, 02:51 PM)
85mm on ff or apsc?  tongue.gif
On full frame. On APCS I guess 50mm is sufficient.

haha...i know =p i guess most of the ppl here r stil on aps-c..thats y we 'generally' said 50mm is best for portrait..i guess 85mm on apsc shd b fine too..which work out to b around 13x mm.. tongue.gif

jsut to share with u guys...i've been watching this fella's portrait shooting for some times...IMO he shoots great portraits(of cos the super gears help alot)..nt using Sony..but i guess no harm to learn from each other  http://widjita.deviantart.com/gallery/
*
Those shots are taken with Canon 1Ds Mark III with Canon 200mm f2.0 L IS USM and Canon 50mm f1.2 L USM. The Canon 200mm f2.0 L IS USM itself already gonna cost you a whopping 22k. biggrin.gif

haha..thats y i said the super equipments helps too....but again..i think other than the photo quality...the 'setup' of the shots are one of the attractant too..i believe even with a entry lvl body + avg lens..those shots wouldnt b too far away from a great shot either...
Which is why I always mentioned, "Great gears and good skills are like tango" if you get what I'm trying to say. smile.gif
