Ya...I'm still considering...on the subject of spaying...

Cons - getting fat and dying young.

Pros - dun need to worry abt me being a unwanted granny, dealing with her every cycles....and also protect her against reproduction cancer (note: not all cancer).

Female dogs tend to become fatter after spaying. So you gotta control food intake. Lover the amount of food and some exercise. That's all. Actually, spaying gives you loads of pros.... no need see blood stains during heat, lower dog's womb cancer and phantom pregnancy, no more mood swings, won't attract male dogs and since lower risk in cancer, lifespan is prolonged slightly longer.

I got 4 dogs at home, 3 are spayed and neutered. My last male gonna neuter soon. LOL.... it gives me peace and my dogs are happy but I do realize this. Only the females become overweight, my neutered male is still fit and muscular and he is 9 years old.

Wow!! 4 dogs at home??!!! Gosh...how do you manage??

I would like to ask how you guys carry your MS in the car for long journey?

Do you crate them? Or let them loose in the car?

laugh.gif The last time I crate her and she's quite content to sleep and ignore me for shoving her in the crate! But its has been two months and I don't know whether she'll remember the trip or get too excited....since I'll be taking her alone in the car! If she creates havoc, I won't be able to stop her until I find a place to stop. icon_idea.gif

heheheh yeah... so u havta start controlling the food intake already.

Stephy, Fatty and Ally 'officially' only eat half a cup of doggie food a day, at 7pm sharp daily...
but morning, grandma feeds them biscuits...

tea time @ 10am... feed them gardenia bread...

tea time @ 3pm... got somemore biscuits...

sometimes got soya bean... got fresh milk... got fruits... if they lucky, they even steal cheezels... etc etc.... got Kraft singles cheese... got vanilla ice cream...

thats why ALL SO FAT!!!

Added on June 4, 2009, 10:24 amStephy is 7kg... 5 years old in 2 months time.

Fatty is 6kg... 4 years old this year.

Ally is 4+ kg.... same age of Fatty
*
Haha...my fren lagi terror!! She feeds my puppy breakfast (main meal), the afternoon (treats) during training, dinner (main meal) and more treats at nite!!! Thinking that puppy needs tat much food.

Lagi my puppy is very easily bored. Fetch a few times, tired oredi. Love to chew. Will stay at one place to just keep chewing!

Oso she gets easily bored with her toys!! doh.gif
Not really interested in playing much.

So in conclusion i think she eats too much and didn't get enough exercise! tongue.gif

She's 10" tall already and about 13 - 15" in length for 3mth++. Is that on track? Or is she a big baby?? cry.gif

I'm hoping for a petite MS like Ally. tongue.gif

mmm thats a very good question...

so far, we are hoping its the neighbour's Miniature Schnauzer...

but I seriously dunno who Stephy's been slutting around with. About 1 month ago, when she was just having her period, she ran out of the house... she dug a nice hole for herself, whereby we do not know. when we came home from work, she was at home already.

hence... i really do not know - i'm keeping fingers crossed. hopefully its that schnauzer...

Added on June 7, 2009, 2:17 amdo check out the Ultra scan video that i posted on my blog

Hahaha....in that case, how did you know that Stephy is pregnant? Interesting wait.....I'm as curious as you to see what she'll have.

I just got my puppy back after fostering it at my fren's place for about 2 months.

Its a mixture of excitement and anticipation. biggrin.gif and probably some anxiety. tongue.gif

In fact, toilet training failed. As my fren couldn't get her to use the potty tray. She loves to pee and poo on rugs....I oredi washed all my kitchen rugs by 2nd day.

I tried sitting with her with the tray for at least an hour but nothing happen. But the minute I gave up, turned away, she'll do her biz!!! Arrgghhhhhh on the rugs! doh.gif She seems to think her potty tray is something special....cos if I give her a "po pui" new toy or chew, she'll take it to her potty train and curl up there!!!! sad.gif rclxub.gif

Also, she's not interested in toys. She wouldn't play with it herself. She thinks I'm her toys. So she couldn't entertain herself. A bit worried about her being on her own. rclxub.gif

She also started to hyperventilate for a few seconds....wondering if its normal?

Toilet training a pup does not take a day or even a week (well, in my experience mostly...others probably have better results than me), so it takes a lot of patience for them to know the potty tray is the place to 'go'. If she likes the rugs, perhaps for the time being you can remove the rugs that you like, and maybe 'sacrifice' one old rug to put in the tray? Maybe it's because the pee tray doesn't have her smell, so she doesn't know that's her spot to pee and poop. When you see her wanting to go (all dogs have signs...like sniffing around, turning a few circles, etc. You need to observe your pup almost all the time during the training period), quickly carry her to the pee tray and wait. Encourage her to pee there a lot. If she pees there, praise her madly and give her a treat. If she doesn't, don't scold her coz she is still confused and doesn't know yet. It will really take a while to train, especially if you are not around 24/7 to supervise her...I took almost a month or so to get Scottie to know the newspaper (and later the tray) is his place to go.

Re: toys, sometimes pups need a bit of coaching for them to get into the spirit of play...Scottie is like that too. My trainer told me to make things more interesting for him by moving the toy about and encourage him to play with it. If your pup doesn't know how to play, we would have to teach her to play (yes, there is such a thing...laugh.gif I only know about this after my trainer told me tongue.gif) Making lots of high-pitched sounds and encouragement I find makes Scottie more open to playing. Also, I have to literally be silly sometimes to get him interested, like making him chase me, make funny sounds, etc...just like encouraging children to open up and play. LOL!

When does she start hyperventilating though? After play? If it's continuous and getting more serious, I think your best bet would be the vet.
*
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm strategizing how to get her to use the potty...may even have to sacrifice one of my older rugs then... tongue.gif

I'm planning to take her to puppy obedience class. Which one did you go to? Since it is my first puppy EVER, I think I need group support...I think the puppy class is more for me. I researched and there are 3 schools; MKA, puppy.com.my and the other at YMCA Brickfields. I'm more inclined towards Brickfield as they have their own space rather in public parks. Will appreciate your thoughts.

Yup, the things we do to get our furkids to behave the way we want them to are quite funny sometimes, but once they get it, I always feel proud that I stuck to it and not giving up halfway smile.gif

Obedience classes are very good especially for socializing. smile.gif The basic classes are quite easy (in fact, a little too easy) to pass, so I would encourage you to go for the higher levels after you've gone through puppy class, coz basic class is like kindergarten. Too basic, and I feel that I learn a little more in the higher levels on control and stuff like that smile.gif Anyways, since you are just starting out, just concentrate on this first to see if you would enjoy training your pup or not wink.gif

I went to Puppy.com with Scottie. Was there for more than a year if I remember correctly. We were first at the Taman Desa park, but later moved to Ampang for the more advanced classes. I've been to see MKA classes, and they are somewhat similar to Puppy.com's classes, except that they are in different places, so I guess it's really up to you. Which place is more convenient and easy on the pocket for you...the main purpose is to get some basic understanding on training and socialize your pup smile.gif I have not heard of the place in YMCA Brickfields though. Could it be Pet-N-You? Good luck in your training! smile.gif
*
Yes, the one conducted at YMCA Brickfields is conducted by Pet-N-You. Currently, looking at just basic stuff since Kimmy is still not used to leash...in fact, she kinda hates it...will chew on it....will resist moving at all.....you know how dogs use all their paws to put resistance while holding their body back?? That's how she goes whenever she moves on leash. Managed to tempt her to move a few times with toys but that oso not working much.

Ya, I am also looking at locations....since Brickfields is just not too far away....and besides, I'm kinda directionally challenged....and Ampang will be like "where???" tongue.gif But will consider more advance classes if she can manage. Definitely thinking about agility class since she loves to jump....can do hoola hoops now...with no fear...of course, with treats as the ultimate goal! h laugh.gif

hehehe those who get very excited.... mmm u cage ur doggie isit? or how? mine run around everywhere during the day, when i come home also they like tak layan wan... just run to me, then walk off already...

but speaking of doggies with attitude, Stephy has been terrible. Previously the most obedient one, now being a pregnant lady, she just pees as she likes, shreds my comics n doesnt really bother much of me unless i got food...
*
tongue.gif I don't cage her but I put her in the toilet....when I go to work. She's in a chewing phase...not sure wat kinda damage I'll find when I get home. And that she's not potty trained yet. So confined her in smaller place until she's not so "chewy"? and "free flow"? hahhaa

But then, even at my fren's place where she getst to roam around freely, she oso gets very excited when she sees me. To the extend that she'll release some pee...or quite a lot. She'll jump and jump....like she couldn't contain herself.....I think its like near-beserk behaviour.
