Thank you to all the teams that made it! Eight (8) survivor teams came in, but only 5 made it out alive. Unfortunately, the prizes were only for the top four. No matter, there will be more future opportunities for other teams. So without further ado, here are the results of the L4D Time Trial Tournament @ ACGC!

At this moment we are leaning considerably towards versus. However, we only have limited PCs and thus only 8 teams single elimination will be possible. Still checking on the ruling system for such a tournament. We will be announcing for sure by tomorrow.

Campaign = Blood Harvest or No Mercy

Format = 3 Maps or map dropping ( example if team A choose farm02 and team B choose farm05, farm03 will be play) or you may play all 3 map, which is totall up all 3 maps score to get final map score.

please be note, marshall will flip coin either blood harvest or no mercy, and then team will choose to drop the map or play full map.

Maps:
l4d_vs_farm02_traintunnel
l4d_vs_farm03_bridge
l4d_vs_farm05_cornfield
and etc etc

Flip coin to get survivor or infected,

Home Team Starts as Survivors for 1st Map
Away Team Starts as Survivors for 2nd Map
Home Team Starts as Survivors for Finale

if playing just one map
compare both team score

and notify that maximum time per map is 45 minutes or 1 hour as organizer like, if not someone would just camp as what as they like.

Make sure and get Score Screenshots at the end of each map. Total all 3 map scores to get the Final Match Score or 1 map score.

To reset scores, use the "rcon changelevel" to switch between maps.

and i strongly suggest playing full map though, as mostly a full map will only take around 1 hour.

and yea, dont simply say my idea bad or whatever...if you had better idea, say it out...else stfu

actually thats some pretty good ideas, i like the changlevel thing, that would make it much easier to tabulate the scores and keep things level. the tank spawn will not be the same though, but it keeps the starting infected team from having the advantage of knowing where the tank will be.

Those are nice ideas.

How about the the part where it says to play for a full campaign?

"Home Team will start as Survivors

After map 2 is complete, you will changelevel to map 3, switch sides so the home team will now start out as infected. Then after the completion of the Finale, add your scores, and report the match."

Btw I can't download those files. Maybe I need to register an account.

It all depends on how long the match lasts though. I am sorry people but we are looking at a very limited time here. Hmmm decisions decisions ...

dont play a full campaign.

maybe just play 1~3 part(s) of it twice with each teams taking turns becoming infected 1st.

but it stil unfair for those start at survivor 1st, coz the infected team will know where spawn tank on the next turn.

thats why you play through twice (not whole campaign as it would take forever) with each teams taking turns starting as survivor/infected.

L4D is a unique coop game. That's why it took the whole world by storm.
Changing it to a versus mode in a tourney make it no difference then CS.

Might as well u organise CS.

No offence, just my feedback.

have you tryed playing VS? its not as easy as a cs match various ramdom factors still comply.

its very hard to kill survivor in normal mode. The key to win is by tank.

as i mention b4, it stil unfair for those start at survivor 1st, coz the infected team will know where spawn tank on the next turn.
ok if we do 2 round 1 round survivor straight (no infected round) 1 round all the way infected ( the opponent wont know where spawn tank but the tank spawn might be more or less than the previous round thus = unfair.

From my understanding, the 3 map format is thus:

1) Coin flip will determine which team decides to be or not to be a survivor on the first map. Then the second map they switch starting sides. And again on the third (final) map.

Example,
Team B wins the coin flip and decides to not be the survivor on the first map. Thus:

First map (first half): Team A - Survivor | Team B - Infected
First map (second half): Team A - Infected | Team B - Survivor

Second map (first half): Team A - Infected | Team B - Survivor
Second map (second half): Team A - Survivor | Team B - Infected

Third map (first half): Team A - Survivor | Team B - Infected
Third map (second half): Team A - Infected | Team B - Survivor

Each half the points will be written down and after the third map, totalled with the team with the most points wins.


Just a question, after both halves are completed, will the game total the points for each team for that map or it doesn't? Meaning that I have to write down the points for both halves and add them up later myself?

Sorry guys but after managing to confirm some of the stuff, we are only going to make this tournament a time trial, expert difficulty with a team limit of 8.

I know you guys are disappointed in this but fret not, this discussion about versus mode has given me a good opportunity of doing research and have managed to come out with what is needed (for a vs tourney). I will try to push a vs tournament in the coming events ahead and hopefully, will have the opportunity to do so.

I still need to confirm on prizes before coming up with a poster and open up registration but for now, the ACGC tournament will be time trial based and limited to only 8 teams.

I'm not against VS mode, but there were still issues that need to be discussed in depth.

Since this game is very much based upon teamwork, more rules enforcing the teamwork should be used.
Probably no leaving teammates or no TKing. Having such rules will make the time trial more challenging and competitive, no?
Maybe penalties for restarting and survivors dying at the escape. Just my 2 cent's worth.

having to restart when everyone dies already loses the team valuable time, adding a penalty to that only adds unnecessary time burden. (newer teams need incentives to keep themselves in the competition)

penalty for dead survivors at the end would prolly make sense though. maybe +1 minute per dead survivor. (maybe impose the penalty only if 2 or less survivors make it)

i think the current "no solo runs" rule is really enough although much of it is up to the judgement of the referee as to what can be regarded as a solo run.

just doing the campaign in expert is already enough challenge!

yes i agree restarting already cost the team valuable time, but what if teams post the same time but one team did it with out restarts and one team did with restarts? time maybe the same, but the performance is different. The current solo run rule is still very vague. I can run in front and dash for the finish while my team mates follow behind me and not bother about how they are doing at the back. To me doing that is also a solo run, as it doesn't use team effort.

For starters, the referees need to be watching over all the plays. The solo runs are very subtle. Matter a show of e-sportsmanship but i guess basically no leaving team mates behind, no team killing for health. =D

What he means, Eddy, is no sengaja teamkilling a guy with red health just outside the safehouse so that he can respawn with half health. Accidental friendly fire is still acceptable I think, because there's no exploiting involved.

I think you misunderstand me, I didn't say not FF, as I know myself FF is inevitable. But I believe TKing for health and letting your team mate die on purpose should be outlawed.

And I don't mean the typical solo run. I'm talking about the kind of solo runs where everyone sticks together, but not working together.

And of course no one will be putting their hands up for TK, thats where the tournament officials come to play.

Let's say Tank Chasing U all

4th Guy Get Boomered and get smookered and punched by tank and raped by infected .

By the time u realiased that he is smookered he is already Incap and have 50% HP left..

...It's all kinda subjective...hard to say who sengaja left a teammate to die

thats where it comes to technicalities i guess. if you left them because you had a chance to get to the safe house and they were being smoked/pounced/tanked, its just the luck of hte situation. but killing your teammates by FF at the door of the safe house, thats the kind of TKing i think they're talking about. its more a flaw in the game design much like wallrides in NFS. you can already see on the steampowered forums that many users are talking about possible revamps to give you an incentive to stay alive, rather than kill yourself before the next level for that shiny 50 hp compared to your <10 hp.

Yes, subjective, but doesn't mean to just leave them for dead. Probably organizers can creates rules such like no entering the safe room if team mates not in near vicinity. During the Blitzone tourney, I got to the safe room while my other team mate was incap. i could have left him for dead, but I didn't feel it was sportsmanship to do that, so I went back to save him alone while taking the risk of being attacked by special infected and die and restart the whole level.

If I am not mistaken we will be using Microsoft keyboard and mice. We will be bringing some headphones but players can bring their own hardware (ie keyboard, mouse & headsets).

my POV for the L4D..

do count the total survivor safely made it in the safe room as an advantage.. otherwise, they can TK or /kill to suicide themselves, to reduce the time..

in short, survivor saved > time
