To me, free annual fee for whole life, the service provided by the bank and cash rebate are the three most important things when I consider applying for a credit card.

All the points to me are not so useful. Cash rebate especially for petrol is more meaningful.

Free annual fee for whole life is very important as I don't have to call the bankers to waive my annual fee every year before it expires.

The service provided is very important too. Every time I call to the bank, I hope it will answer my call as soon as possible. I have called before to a bank several times but there was never a person there to answer my call until now.

so, mind to share which card do you currently own fits the 3 things above?
*
Sure. I am currently using VISA and MASTERCARD from Public Bank, MASTERCARD from CIMB and AmBank.

All the cards are free for life absolutely without any condition, except for Public Bank. As long as I am a Public Mutual unitholder, my Public Bank credit cards are free without any condition.

My Public Bank credit cards offer cash rebate although it is not a huge amount. CIMB gives me 2 % cash rebate if I go to Petronas.

So far, their staffs are quite polite especially AmBank in SS2, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

If you want higher cash rebate for every petrol station in Malaysia, you can try applying RHB Travel Money credit card. It gives 5 % cash rebate for every first Saturday and Sunday of a month, then 2 % for the rest of the days of the month. The promotion is until the end of this June, if I am not mistaken. But bear in mind, RHB service is very bad. I mean the attitude of the staffs. Why am I using its credit card? I just want to enjoy the cash rebate. After promotion period, I will cancel it without hesitation.

Hope my little advice helps you.

How much is the annual fee for this RHB Travel Money card? Free annual fee for how many year?
*
If I am not mistaken, the credit card is free for the first two years only. Actually, you can use it until the petrol promotion ends. After that, you just need to call or go to any one of the RHB branches to cancel the card.

If you want to be sure about other benefits of the credit card, you are advised to go to RHB bank when you are free.

need some advice...
i've never used any creditcard before just debit card...
but i'm planning to get a CC.

any advice which one to get?  I plan to to get Maybank Petronas Visa or Citibank Clear card.... any comment/suggestion??

I recommend you to use Public Bank Visa and MASTERCARD. They give us cash rebate although it is not much. By applying Public Bank Internet Banking, you can link the cards to it. After that, you can pay many monthly bills by using your credit cards or savings account. I can't find this service in Hong Leong and CIMB. For CIMB, you are only entitled to this internet banking service (bill payment) when you have an debit card which will charge you RM 8 per year.

After you have used your credit card for one year, the bank will usually offer you gold card provided that you have good record in settling debts...

Don't be surprise, there is another product (I have mentioned it in V6) which gives 7% rebate for petrol purchases. It is a debit card product so I won't discuss it here.

That is exactly my practice.  biggrin.gif  Actually, you should do this for all your cards when you travel - you don't want to be stuck in a foreign country with no way to pay your bills.
*
Can you tell me the name of the debit card? Thanks for sharing...

Look like CIMB Mastercard free for life credit card better than Citybank Choice credit card.
CIMB Mastercard free for life without any condition, but Citybank Choice credit card want to swap minimum 24 times per year then only got free for life.
Correct me if i were wrong.
By the way, looking for free for life credit card because seldom use, main is use for petrol transtation, any suggestion here, just one credit card is enough tongue.gif
*
CIMB Petronas Mastercard is free for life absolutely without any condition. When you pump petrol using it at Petronas, you get 2 % cash rebate.

One of my friends told me that Direct Access credit card offers 2 % cash rebate for every petrol station in Malaysia. I am not sure whether the credit card is free for life without any condition. You can try to apply for it.

I was told that we can get a DA credit card (2 % cash rebate in all petrol station in Malaysia) using our degree cert. Do we have to prepare our pay slips for application for the DA credit card???

I'd rather go for CIMB DA Mastercard which gives 2% all the time, every petrol brand. Plus the card is free for life.
or
RHB TravelMoney - 5% on the first weekend, and 2% on any other day, every petrol brand too.
*
For RHB TravelMoney, the petrol rebate promotion is until the end of June this year...

This promotion period applies to previous owners as well. But, so far, RHB keeps extending the promotion period. Actually the promotion ended last February.

I applied Hong Leong CC before and I wanted to cancel it. So, I called the agent. The agent honestly told me not to cancel it so soon as it may affect her commission. She asked me to cancel it after around 3 months.

To me, it is ok as I have nothing to lose. So, I cancelled it after 3 months...

If we have nothing to lose, why not we just let them earn the commission???

If you consent to it then it is OK. Most of us here (including myself kena b4), got sent unsolicited credit cards which shouldn't have happened in the first place. The agent did that either to gain additional commission or to meet their targets and unfortunately @ the consumers expense. Plus, it is the consumers right to do what they want but again there are cases where the agent lies that the bank requires you to keep the card for a certain xx period.

Saw the link to a blog .... what if you sign up for additional insurance packages without the consent of your customers? Don't you think you will be thrown out of work @ lightning speed?
*
Other people I don't know. If I am given something free without having to pay any thing, why not??? In addition, the agent was very polite when she answered my questions regarding the CC...

QUOTE(santaclaus @ Jun 4 2009, 11:52 AM)
well ... if the agent honestly told me he would pick a master n visa , i mayb obliged to his request.
but now the problem is , the visa never been applied by me nor mention by the agent tht he will tick tht column. if he doesnt do tht , and its solely scb policy to issue 2 cards , then it shudn't affect the agent comm since im not canceling all the cc ...

moreover tht damn cs who hanged up my call make me damn tulan ... before tht his voice tone oso like threatening saying "u must keep it for 1 yr or at least 6 mths" ... thts the point when i start questioning him til he proceed with my cancellation.

after 1 exp of helping agents , i dunwan to do it again. last time keep all the cc not using in home , thief come in , take it n swipe kaw-kaw. becoz of the cc havent been use so long , the bank called to verify the usage as it was a shopping spree ( damn they buy watever they c ). then onli i knew something wrong. although ask them to block , some transactions stil go thru.make police report , 3-4 appeal letters , 3 times visiting their hq , onli dispute.

i definitely dun wanna go thru this anymore.yes, they say they will responsible for the fraud case.but did they do any investigations? i doubt they could do anything , it was ourself who had to prove we r innocent by asking the shops cctv records , explaining. so y shud i risk myself for an agent comm???
*
Ya, if I think the service is very poor, I will cancel the CC without thinking twice even it is free....

QUOTE(winner @ Jun 4 2009, 12:16 PM)
You are so kind! smile.gif I'll cancel whatever pre-approved cards that I never apply for.

It is not easy to earn money nowadays. So, why must I do something that may affect their income. Furthermore, I have nothing to lose... Of course, if the service is very bad, I will not give them any face...
