Thanks for the feedback. Let say I have an unused CC, I forgot to cancel it after reached 1 year and bank already charged me annual fee. Do I still need to pay the fee if I cancel the card?
*
Depending on the bank, you can call the bank to reverse the fee. HSBC reverses the charges for me when I called them up after seeing the annual fee in my statement. They also said will waive the next 5 years' fee for me, and upgrade my card (never got the cards from them, but I don't really care about that). Once, they even reversed the penalty charged (RM100 I think) when I accidentally sent them an unsigned cheque as payment. Got some free stuff from them when I signed up last time and on my first birthday with them too (Ogawa massage pillow, Osim electric toothbrush). I love HSBC. Only thing I don't like is that their rewards points will expire. FYI, I seldom use my HSBC card, just a couple of auto-debit there.

Has anyone here encountered this unpleasant experience from Alliance Bank recently? I received my 2nd month statement for Younique card. They charged interest on retail transaction in the statement. I remember clearly when I called the CS last month, they told me that there won’t be any interest for the first 3 months. That’s why I only made minimum payment stated in the 1st month statement before the payment due date.

This afternoon I called the CS and made an enquiry about the interest charged in the statement. To my surprise, the CS girl told me that it is their company’s policy to impose interest on outstanding balance, and she kept arguing that she was never aware of such a promotion which gives interest free for 3 months. She said she can’t simply waive the interest and she will consult her manager on the interest free issue. OMG!!!! What kinda CS is this? The staff is not well trained and not familiar with the company’s ongoing promotions! I am still awaiting their response. I am thinking of lodging a complaint to Bridget Lai if I do not receive a clarification from them by tomorrow.

This incident really ruins my impression on Alliance. I feel cheated and annoying. The “instant interest waiver” promotion is clearly stated in their website below:

Dude, I had a bad experience with them as well. I applied for the Younique card almost 2 months ago via the website, faxed over the docs, then someone called me up to confirm the details and said all was in order. Until now no news, when I called them up to ask, they said no application was received under my name. OMG. I give up.

Called up RHB yesterday to cancel 2 of my cards with them and was told that I have to surrender the cards to an RHB bank personally or fax them a letter of request. So troublesome. Is this normal? Other banks like MBF allows me to cancel over the phone.

Now going to print out the letter on the first page and fax to them.

I always pay before i even get the printed credit card bill, like just 1 or 2 days after the credit card is billed so to avoid late payment charges. I know we have 20 days grace period but i prefer to settle it as soon as possible  smile.gif  Which is why i have online banking for all my credit cards so not only i can keep track of my spending, but also to check how much do i need to pay because i usually only get the credit card bill 10 days after the billing date.

If you haven't already, do consider cancelling your paper statements. It's really such a waste of resources. I wrote to all of my banks to opt out of paper statements, unfortunately not all of them has such an option... HSBC didn't sad.gif

The CL for my Alliance Visa Plat is same as my HSBC and UOB Visa Plat. Alliance Visa Plat has a pretty good tiered cash back but up to RM5000 only (something like max RM68+). I do tend to use my Alliance often as I get reward points on top of cash back.
*
Hello Gen-X, is the Alliance Visa Platinum rebate tiers like the Younique card? I just received mine today, actually I applied for Younique card, the card people called me and asked if I would prefer Platinum instead, I said yes (I thought it was Younique Platinum), but today I received the normal Alliance Visa Platinum instead... CL is 5K higher than what Citibank Platinum offered. Any disadvantages to this Alliance Visa Platinum? It has rebates and rewards points which do not expire, which was what I wanted originally with the Younique.

Yes, a couple of good promotion such as 8% cash rebate from public bank & 8x MR for amex card. Also look at JustOne card from Standard Chartered.
*
Which PB card is this? Looked around their website but couldn't find 8% cash rebate.

Alliance VISA Platinum rebates is only available for the 1st RM5k and no rebates will be given for retail use above RM5k. If you average out the tiers then the rebates are only 1.38%  Apart than that, it is about the same just like any other Plat cc product. Oh yeah, if you are into the card designs - perhaps it is the ugliest Plat cards around but best cash rebates!
*
I have to agree with you on that - this is the worst design I've ever seen on a credit card.

Good lord, Alliance sent me a Younique card as well! But the design is the default website one, not the picture which I uploaded... darn... I'm gonna cancel it since the Visa Platinum covers all the Younique benefits already.

I called Alliance and was told that there is no administration fee for international transactions.

hackqym, HSBC wanted to upgrade my card to gold, i said no. what for?

if i seriously looking for card, i will only go for premier hsbc card, as it shows that i have more than 200k sitting in the bank, hahaha.

but i still will keep my classic.
classic, gold and plat = no difference, although i cant get plat... but still no difference for me. having a plat shows u can earn a certain amount, which is higher than gold or classic, but doesnt mean you have that much money...

if you are seriously looking for status... go for those cards with certain conditions attached to it.

As shown by Gen-X, there is a difference among classic, gold and plat for certain banks. In this ABMB example, plat has higher cash rebate and double points for international purchases. That may not mean anything to u but certainly makes a difference to others.

if you are depending on cash rebates, points then yes there are differences. if you have like thousands to spend every month, it will make a difference, if you spend less than 1k per month using credit card, then not much difference.
besides, the points are overrated, if you cant afford to pay back on time and incur interest.  rclxub.gif

also, we are talking about average people spending, not the super rich... and if you are those super rich can spend thousands a month with your credit card without incurring interest for minimum payment etc, then the cash rebates and points = a great deal.
*
I don't depend on them but they're nice little bonuses. My insurance premiums are already RM300+ each month, then there's Digi, Streamyx, electricity, water, petrol, dinners, groceries... yeah they go into thousands. Even if they don't, like someone else said, some money saved is some money saved smile.gif

Input on the method of delivery of cc as experienced by me in the past few months:

HSBC gold - Pos Laju (renewal)
Alliance platinum, Younique, Ikea friends - normal mail (need activation by phone)

I remember Citibank agents telling me their card activation equals swiping the card for the first time.

Added on June 16, 2009, 2:55 pmActually beside their helpline late response, MBB should already block the transaction after it reach the 2k credit limit.. bfore the card stolen i alredi used about RM200. Then the thief use it for another RM2.1k.. Why should they not block the card when it reach the limit is their fault right?

I'm thinking of not paying them any cents since they are the one who didn't provide proper helpline channel. Second, the also fail to block immediately when it reach the 2k limit.. Third, in my opinion the merchant who sold the goods should be held responsible since they failed to check that the signature on the print receipt with my signature on the back of card is really different..

Any opinion..?

Last time a thief stole my wife's Amex and used it in Hard Rock Cafe. The thief was Malay, using a card with Chinese name, and he bought liquor. The management only reported it after that... and the police said they will see if the thief comes back for his kept liquor and catch him... but of course he never did.

I have used an unsigned credit card in Jusco before. They never looked at the back of the card. What's the signature on the credit card slip for anyway? Can I just draw a turtle there?

To those holding the Citibank-Giant credit card, please be informed that the maximum rebate for the card in one year is capped at RM600. I didn't receive any rebate for my spending in the last few months due to this. So Sad!
*
Then it's just better to get the Standard Chartered JustOne, since it's 2% rebate for all retail purchases and you need not limit your shopping at Giant biggrin.gif

Ladies and gentlement, it's not that I spend so much in Giant, I use the card for bills and other purchases with 0.5% rebate. It's just that I have reach my limit, and I didn't notice that the rebate stopped 2 months ago until the recent statement, which is quite confusing. The cash rebate can only exchange Giant voucher which they send about RM 240 about 4 months ago and until now, the balance of RM 360 I still didn't receive, as far as I know they are supposed to send out the voucher once you hit a RM 20 rebate.
*
Why not get another card with cash rebates? You can switch to the new card when your Citibank-Giant rebate hits the limit.
