tongue.gif Soon after LB collapsed and rumours about more banks in the US needed a rescue, I was one of those "kiasu" people rushing to the bank to close my FD and savings acc, and subsequently transferred the $ to 2 local banks. However, I'm still using its cc service which is not much affected by the financial meltdown.
*
Don't have to call yourself "kiasu". Everyone is like that. Nobody will help you when anything really goes wrong smile.gif

The blue bank is very fussy when they were still making loads of money every year and expend their business like there is no tomorrow. Even to open an account needs special authorization and approval from branch manager shakehead.gif

There is no such thing that you can't terminate the card. Most likely the agent can earn commission if you keep it for 6 months

so if the cancellation being proceed or he juz put tht down n hafta wait another fella to call me to cancel? damn scb la ... so tulan now feeling wanna cancel all their cc n write to thestar bout their stupid service ( but the rebate on titanium stil so tempting  cry.gif )

bro, just called 2-3 times and they can definitely cancel it on the spot. I suggest you to go to the nearest branch and fill in the cancellation letter. In the Just one application form stated that annual fee waiver subject to min transaction RM 42 per day. hopefully it can be accumulated as one year transaction of RM 15 K+++, otherwise I don't think many people can afford to use their card every day

Many of its existing customers have also lost faith in them. Poor blue bank ...

I planned to terminate the clear card... not much of discount lately.
The only advantage is their internet banking service - easy to pay bills, but their branches is not a lot.

Wow...your letter must be super powerful enough to make the whole department and system revamped!? smile.gif

Anyway, I do agree this particular US bank had the edge over other banks in the past. I reckon their cc service is satisfactory thus far. But we need to be a little more cautious when depositing our money into foreign banks in view of the global market volatility. It has always been better to be alert than negligence. But it's all fine for cc service.

@ask_dino,
It's just another co-brand CC except if you're a movie-goer at GSC it may give you a little more benefit, otherwise nothing much to shout about biggrin.gif

QUOTE(ask_dino @ Jun 3 2009, 09:39 AM)

Yes ... I agree this is the likely scenario here. Agent just trying to delay you for 6 months.

I don't think they will collapse though. Just that they are no longer on the same league as HSBC. Will take them moons to crawl back to the level they previously at. Good luck to them laugh.gif

I think this is actually a myth. Not quite true smile.gif

Yeah. I think so too. An agent helped my mom to apply 4 credit cards from 4 different banks a few months ago. My mom was told that it is okay if she doesn't want to use any of these credit cards but if my mom really wants to cancel these credit cards, he told my mom only to cancel it after XX months. Figured it has something to do with commission.

Most major foreign banks in Malaysia are very stable and financially sound. Such as HSBC (no doubt and so far only their US operation is reporting losses), Standard Chartered, UOB Bank and OCBC.

I applied Hong Leong CC before and I wanted to cancel it. So, I called the agent. The agent honestly told me not to cancel it so soon as it may affect her commission. She asked me to cancel it after around 3 months.

To me, it is ok as I have nothing to lose. So, I cancelled it after 3 months...

If we have nothing to lose, why not we just let them earn the commission???

It's a free for life card, you can just take it if you want. A number of us have received similar offers.

Take it and keep it in your drawer by all means laugh.gif

If you consent to it then it is OK. Most of us here (including myself kena b4), got sent unsolicited credit cards which shouldn't have happened in the first place. The agent did that either to gain additional commission or to meet their targets and unfortunately @ the consumers expense. Plus, it is the consumers right to do what they want but again there are cases where the agent lies that the bank requires you to keep the card for a certain xx period.

Saw the link to a blog .... what if you sign up for additional insurance packages without the consent of your customers? Don't you think you will be thrown out of work @ lightning speed?

this bank is strict on the commission.. One of the agent told me that maybank issue commission to her once the credit card is approved (no need for customers to keep for 6 months). She even encouraged me to apply amex, swipe 1x, get the free laptop bag & terminate it after that.

well ... if the agent honestly told me he would pick a master n visa , i mayb obliged to his request.
but now the problem is , the visa never been applied by me nor mention by the agent tht he will tick tht column. if he doesnt do tht , and its solely scb policy to issue 2 cards , then it shudn't affect the agent comm since im not canceling all the cc ...

moreover tht damn cs who hanged up my call make me damn tulan ... before tht his voice tone oso like threatening saying "u must keep it for 1 yr or at least 6 mths" ... thts the point when i start questioning him til he proceed with my cancellation.

after 1 exp of helping agents , i dunwan to do it again. last time keep all the cc not using in home , thief come in , take it n swipe kaw-kaw. becoz of the cc havent been use so long , the bank called to verify the usage as it was a shopping spree ( damn they buy watever they c ). then onli i knew something wrong. although ask them to block , some transactions stil go thru.make police report , 3-4 appeal letters , 3 times visiting their hq , onli dispute.

i definitely dun wanna go thru this anymore.yes, they say they will responsible for the fraud case.but did they do any investigations? i doubt they could do anything , it was ourself who had to prove we r innocent by asking the shops cctv records , explaining. so y shud i risk myself for an agent comm???

I tried to cancel a card but the bank is making it such a pain. So I just report it as lost card.
