this might be psychological, but I'm keeping my workouts below 1 hr and I'm progressing better despite my erratic gym schedule (always, always with the exams)

Same here. ESPECIALLY on heavy sets. It's very mental on heavy sets. Eg my max snatch grip deadlift is 170KG. My coach usually gets me to do 150KG for 5 triples. This, without needing to say is very tough...but if I keep resting between sets, I find myself breaking form and getting lazy. If I just "tahan" and pull pull pull, I find myself with more energy afterwards.

Everytime I go HEAVY on snatch grip deadlifts, my a$$ really really hurts for the next few days, especially when sitting on the toilet bowl. This is further compounded by the fact that I have to take a dump more often due to the increased protein intake etc etc. Even worse, I do them while standing on plates, so larger range of motion etc.

But holy sh*t 150kg for 5 triples.

Anyway mofonyx, I'm experiencing the same thing as you. Currently on Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 program, everything gets done in around 45 minutes or so, yet I'm seeing nice progress. I remember the reason he designed this program was because he had just became a father, so he needed more time for his family and all, thus having to keep it short yet still be able to progress.

Works well for busy people.

Yes yes indeed. It does work well for busy people.

yeah_guyz you should try to break it up into small days.

Thing is, hardgainers don't rest enough. Get in, 1 hour full intensity and get out. smile.gif

How's your Wendler 5/3/1 going? I wonder is his programme suitable for rabbits like me. You know lah, rabbits can't lift heavy yet. Maybe for dudes like Jon DL 160+kg... Wendler 5/3/1 would be a good match.

Ever since I modified Rippetoe to include Tsatsouline's high-volume ideas, my workouts last almost 2 hours. Since last two workouts I've cut it back to Rippetoe's original plan because I have a life outside the power rack.

DL about 90, overhead 35. Never really tested 1RM, just estimate from 3RM. Haven't been progressing for the longest time. I go to gym to chat more than training nowadays. LOL!

Who else, Jon? You lah.
BTW, my mistake. Underestimated your DL. Apologise.

Got lah. Read also never read properly. He say do one set 5 RM, another set 90% of 5 RM, then as many sets as possible of 80% of 5 RM. That's for those lifts with barbell and dumbell. For BW lifts like chinups and pullups, it's more complicated. No time to write lah. Got to go to an exhibition already lah.

Added on August 9, 2009, 8:53 pmHow you feel is a lousy indicator of how fit you are to train. I practically fasted yesterday (food & water) because I was absorbed in an activity till about 8 p.m. Then ate very lightly (japanese ramen at this nice little mom-and-pop eatery at Mont Kiara where Coffee Bean is. anyone tried?). Then had some Royal Stout and because of this fell asleep without my customary casein.

Woke up after 6 hours of uneasy sleep. Went to trade fair at PWTC, ate McD (sorry), had some cakes and coffee. That was it for today. 30 g of protein maybe?

Thought of not training today because I felt like shit. Did it anyway. And in spite of all that, I broke through my deadlift record after having stalled for 3 weeks (finally got my 5th rep), and made PR in the overhead press.

Just did chins after the PR deadlift. They suffered badly. 7 reps to failure instead of the usual 10.
