I read this in a book if I'm not mistaken. Weightlifting encyclopedia by Arthur Dreschler. They did some calculations and came with a conclusion that 40% of the resistance is reduced, and thus much more weight is needed to have 80% of what a back squat can do (stabilizer muscles use) Thus I remember a line that said if weightlifters ever needed to leg press, do single leg presses because of the amount of strain it puts on your spine.

Weightlifters squat what average men leg press. So imagine how much you need just to have the same muscle activity with the squats. This however, was not tested with EMG machines, so I don't know how accurate it is. I'll stay away from leg presses though.

Ah. I asked because I was resolving the inclined weight into its vertical component and did not arrive at your figure.

Eh, wanna ask...

When doing Bulgarian split squats, do you guys lean forward?

Because the article in T-nation [ http://www.tmuscle.com/free_online_article...s_one_at_a_time ] showed that the girl was doing BSS with a totally vertical body.

Look at the guy. He leans forward. You cannot just stay vertical with weights, or you'll either;

A) Tilt over
B) Have the barbell fall on your rear legs
C) Squat peanuts

Biomechanics.

Oh. OK.

I was actually thinking about this:
Is it supposed that the rear leg hangs on the bench and not do anything but balance the body a bit?

If a person keeps a straigh body, then the rear leg will be handling a lot of the burden (of the weight).
--> Which makes it not exactly single leg anymore, ain't it?
Even with dumbbells, I couldn't manage to keep vertical (if I want to emphasize on the front leg).

People dont want to deadlift because they afraid of back pain. After I finish my deadlift, most of them ask, tak sakit belakang ke ? so I answer no.

Actually the BSS is a quad killer specifically the quad tear ( is that what you guys call it? ) or the medialis. To position your leg on the bench is not a big issue, i'd place the foot only right up to the ankle. Notice the amount of stability you'd be able to get rather than resting your shin on the bench?

Don't complicate things. icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif icon_idea.gif

So I was also wondering, how do you college guys manage to eat clean with all the easily available economy rice/ chicken rice at restaurants and food courts?

Like just now, I just ate RM5 worth of economy rice with 1 fried egg, fried drumstick and pork slices with gravy...all of them are not even close to clean but what can I do? I don't have a kitchen in my hostel room and everything in the economy rice like oily and full of gravy and lard.

EDIT:
So I was reading a 8 week get ripped diet plan and they have things like Atlantic salmon, cottage cheese and lean steak. How do I get those food? I really need to eat some kind of fruit but I don't have a fridge in my hostel room. So usually at night I just drink my milk from adding water to milk powder.

I don't even know some of the food they listed, like tilapia, zucchini, baby lima beans, haddock, halibut.

I think we need a Malaysian Bodybuilding Guide for Muscle Food, stating what are they, what they are called in locally, nutritional facts, price and where to get them.

EDIT 2:
Where can I get green tea extract? Is it sold here in packets so I can just add them into my normal drinking water.

Salmon, haddock and tilapia are fish. Halibut is fish for millionaires. Plenty of fish here. Steak you can get anywhere for about RM 28/kg. Giant, for instance. Substitute cucumber for zucchini. Lima beans are beans. Buy them at the organic food aisle or canned.

What you can do is improvise. I too live on campus and can understand how hard it is to eat clean with the food here.

Here are a couple of tips which i personally practice:
1) Instead of taking the fried drumstick, choose chicken breast in soups or curry/gravy.
2) Cut down on the rice. Its economy rice, so u have control of how much rice u take.
3) Eat your vege! They are packed with nutrients and add up for the carbs u cut from rice.
4) Go easy on the gravy. Take just enough for taste, dont banjir the entire plate.
5) Fruits such as apples, oranges and pears can be kept without using a fridge for storage. I stock up my fruits weekly.
6) For milk, powder form is fine. Try getting SUNLAC Skim Milk from jusco. Its packed with protein, low in fat and a value for money buy. Another choice would be to stock up on 250ml packets of Dutch Lady low fat UHT milk. Each packet has 8.5g protein in it.
7) For fish, get some Tuna. They come in cans, so storage is not a problem.

Lastly, learn to cook and prepare meals in ur hostel(if cooking is allowed).
I manage to cook a variety of dishes just by using a rice cooker.
The only meal I have at campus is lunch since I would be having classes around that time, the rest I prepare myself.(currently consume 6 meals a day)

Hope this helps.

I, for one, won't be interested in this. The traditional dishes around are the result of thousands of years of evolution. No way anyone gonna beat them.

I don't get what you mean, in case you don't understand, what I meant was a guide of muscle food found in Malaysia for easy reference because what they list in magazines and in the net are food found in the US, UK, AUS but not commonly found here or it's very expensive in Malaysia.
