Sudden increase in blood pressure due to exertion.

Drink more water all the time, and go do a medical check ASAP.

You don't want to get a stroke halfway through squatting.

i drink usual amount of water that day. It's just instincts i guess? Whenever i get a headache, tummyache, etc i take water? lol

But yea see if it happens again then i do something about it. Just wanna check if it's normal

Did you have a headache before doing squats?

Did you feel like you were going to faint?

Lets just say when i first started a month ago i can only squat the bloody bar +10kg...even then the bar shaky shaky already haha

now i can do 50kgs. I think for some weak ppl like me, we start really low but i think it goes up pretty fast

One question from a friend. Can leg press substitute squats? It does seem like the same form especially if you are doing squats on the smith machine? If not what else needs to be added to leg press to get similar benefits to squat.

Leg Press will still train the quads but squats is different because you also have to stabilize the bar and all. and pushing the weight back up is really a different feeling...much tougher i would say compared to leg press / smith.

Same goes for smith machine...the feeling will be different coz you dont have to stabilize the bar when a normal squat does.

Squatting bodyweight is tough for a skinny ba$tard.
It took me half a year to get there. Which is a mere 50kg.

it depends on your body condition. if you are active in excercise, that is not a hard job for you to squat BW

but then as i said, you got crazy potential on weight lifting =.=ll

This is stupid. My first set of incline bench during lunchtime today and here comes the pain again. Although only about 1/2 the pain of yesterdays.

bledig, do you breath properly during the lift. Exhale a bit at the end of exersion reps. I guess can reduce a bit of pressure from holding your breath all the way until the end of each set

Yeah i guess i normally breathe out only after the whole rep for squats(after i fully stand up) because i was told to tighten stomach. if i were to breathe out my stomach with lax. But let me try it out. Although i am pretty sure that my breathing is correct for incline bench press. Let me squat again tomorrow and see how it goes

Thanks!

First off, I remember having to hold your breath through the rep and exhale only as you complete your ascend (with a grunt, if you have to). This keeps your back tight throughout the motion. Take a deep breath, down, come up and exhale as you complete. A tough core is essential for maintaining a proper squat and breathing out at the end of the motion keeps tightness in tact. So I doubt it's anything wrong with your breathing. I recall reading this on Rippetoe's Starting Strength.

My close mate called me one day out of the blue and told me he had a sharp pain in his head like you did after he squatted. He just left the gym immediately. I told him to get to the doctor's if it was concerning him. What you're getting is "Weightlifter's Headache"

Here's a thread on bb.com talking about it. http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=110736231

Keep it safe bro. Sorry I didn't see your post earlier!

Thanks for the thread!

I will retain my current squat breathing then. Damn! from the looks of the thread the best treatment is REST...and it lasts for a few weeks(and some suspect popped blood vessel....freaky)! But i'm so pumped up now and what a shame to go to waste. Have been going to gym 5-6 time a week since last month and man it felt gooood...

Guess i am gonna force myself to sleep really early today and try squatting again tomorrow night. smile.gif

A popped blood vessel would have more severe signs.
