HD 4870 now available for €149 in Euroland

GTS 250 still slightly cheaper

Following Nvidia's GTS 250 rebrand, ATI has slightly adjusted HD 4870 prices to make the green team's life a bit harder.

At the moment you can get an HD 4870 for €149. The card comes from Sapphire and features a non-refernce heatpipe cooler. For €10 more you can get a 775MHz Gainward with a non-reference dual-fan cooler, or Powercolor's PCS edition card at 780MHz.

The cheapest GTS 250 comes from Palit, it's a reference design and costs €149.

ATI has not cut prices of other RV770 based cards, and the HD 4850 and HD 4830 still sell for €120 and €84 respectively.

With NVIDIA getting ready to launch the GTS 250, ATI is slashing prices on its HD

4870 and HD 4850 cards. The price cuts will drop the 4870 down to $149 and the 4850 will go down to $129. If the price cuts hit later in the week, this should really give NVIDIA a run for its money.



ATI's dual GPU offerings, the HD4850 X2 and HD4870 X2, don't seem to be getting the price cut at all and the HD 4830 will also stay the same price. The HD 4830 will soon be replaced by the upcomming RV740, which is also expected to launch along side the RV790 chip.

More importantly is that this adds some evidence to earlier rumors on the Radeon HD 4890 launch date of April 6.

If everything holds true, the next month or so will prove very interesting for everyone in the video card market. Both desktop and mobile users are getting new chips and with lots of new numbers flying around, the fight for title of king will surely be a heated one.

but the question mark is: how many sellers willing to drop the price.?

Ya, totally agree...U know here, the seller very sux especially in LYP...Even other ppl ady cut price, but they still remain the price...

if that is the case just buy rig without GC 1st. no need to delay

Added on March 4, 2009, 12:58 pmi looked at LY price for 4870 in average is RM900 but ATi said their price is $199

RM900/ $199 = 4.5 (over the currency exchange)
therefore to estimate new card price

$149 x 4.5 = RM670

I've asked someone who works in LYP regarding this price slash and he was shocked when he heard the news. He told me that they probably wont lower it until they get all their goods sold which I think will take a minimum of 2 months atleast.

i heard tat the cut price of 4870 is to compete with nvidia new 250? i think since the 250 is a rename of 9800gtx+?
