Hello, is it possible for you guys/gals to help me find a suitable LCD monitor?

Budget: STRICTLY not more than RM520
Brand: I prefer Samsung but any brand is possible with a reasonable price.
Warranty: AT LEAST must have 3 years warranty.
Resolution: Full HD is the best, but 16:10 or other 16:9 models are also acceptable if the price is reasonable.

Thanks a lot for the help. smile.gif

EDIT: Plus please is 20" or more.

Here got 20" 16:9 version.

AFAIK, play HD content on 16:9 will not have black bars, 16:10 will have black bars, but can be used to play subtitles no?

And I saw the Dell Monitor say has USB 2.0 ports, what is it for?

Black bars or no black bars depends on your movie ratio. If you movie's aspect ratio is anything above 1.78:1, both 16:9 and 16:10 will have black bars. Just that with 16:9 the black bars will be thinner. Most movies are in 1.85:1 and 2.39:1 ratio.

Hmm I see. I think Dell E2009W is a better choice with 16:10 ratio even though I use it to watch movies. The black bars could be used as space for subtitles. Plus, I've seen Acer X203H before, 16:9 a bit too rectangle lol.

I see that Dell website selling at really great price. Is there any catch or trap? Like no DVI cable? Need pay extra?

Is there anywhere else that sells this model at a lower price? Can't find one in LYN.

I've deicded to buy Dell UltraSharp™ 2009W 20" Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor

But it's kinda hard to find it, anybody knows where to find?

Is there like Dell authorised store that sells the item at around the same price as advertised in the website?

Dell's warranty service does it include coming to your doorstep and take and fix and send it back to your house?

Hi guys, one guy selling this monitor:

LG W2242T 22" Wide TFT LCD Monitor with DVI
• Resolution: 1680 x 1050
• Pixel Pitch: 0.282 x 0.282
• Brightness: 300cd/㎡
• Contrast Ratio: 8000:1 DFC
• Viewing Angle: H:170° V:170° (CR≥5)
• Response Time: 5ms (Typical)
• Connectors: 15Pin D-Sub, DVI-D
• 3 Years Limited Warranty.
• Glossy Black Piano Frame.
• FREE DVI Cable.

It is used for half a year means warranty got 2 and a half years more. The price is only RM450. But I'm considering this with Dell UltraSharp™ 2009W 20" Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor brand new from dell is around RM480.

So comparing these 2, which is the best choice in terms of value for money?

Thank you very much in advance yea.

is it possible to download or buy any 1920x1080 movies? i download a few full HD movie which claims to be 1080p but after finish downloaded i still see the bloody 2 black bar doh.gif

Because usually the resolution of the illegal movies are not FULL HD, their aspect ratio is a little screwed.

I don't know about legal BluRay discs though, but those shops that display them shows no black bars at all.

If I'm going to leave the computer on for a very long time without actually being in front of it, is it better to switch off the LCD monitor or let it just automatically go to power saving mode?

Which extends the LCD monitor's life longer?

Dual LCD is not really for me, at least not when one of it is used to watch movie/anime/TV Show...

When I watch movie/anime/TV Show I need to really concentrate on it. That way I can really enjoy and understand it. That's why most of the time I would put my MSN status 'Appear Offline' during that time haha...

Different people different style I guess, lol.

Why isn't Samsung and Viewsonic inside the list?

I wonder why LG LCD monitors are not so popular in Malaysia... They are the 2nd biggest LCD producers in the world after Samsung.

LCD or PLASMA better?
*
LCD is definitely better if you're using it as a MONITOR instead of a TV. That's because Plasma TVs do not have a good compability with digital output or something, not too sure. Saw a review that says this about a year ago, not sure if manufacturers addressed this problem already or not.

As for TVs, Plasma indeed do provide a little brighter and sharper images. But with the cost of heat + power consumption. While LCD is much more eco-friendly and cheaper. biggrin.gif
