It's more like the other way around.

As long as the monitor can display >= 1080 horizontal lines, progressive scan, it is considered FullHD.
*
If it is a full HD on a smaller screen (because now I understand any with 1920x1080 is considered Full HD, right?) ain't it makes the font size of window become smaller under native resolution? which is painful to watch.

Seem like lot of people want a full HD monitor, but until now I can't find an answer, why I need a full HD monitor for ordinary usage like online, checking email, occassionally movie (ordinary movie, not blue-ray or HD).
So I don't need to spend more to find a HD monitor? right?

You need HD source of movie in order to have good HD view on the picture, right?
If not (without HD source), whether it is a full HD monitor, the movie pciture quality make no different, correct?

Sorry a bit noob on HD issue.

This Dell monitor good or not? -> Dell UltraSharpTM 2209WA with IPS panel. http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/c...bsd1&l=en&s=bsd

Try to get rid of TN panel due to colour shifting problem.

Edited, any recommendation else? Size doesn't matter be it 22 or 20, most important is colour accuracy (not colour shifting problem), price as long as arond 1K, no problem.

Appreciated any comment. Thanks. notworthy.gif

imagine having 15" lcd with fullHD. reading text on it is purely stupid.
to make full use of fullHD display, fullHD source is required. no point watching VCD on a fullHD display.
*
But a lot of people buy Full HD LCD TV for watching Astro which is not fullHD source. sweat.gif

So does most computer users, most computer are mainly for ordinary window environment, why need a full HD then?

For blueray and HD video, ok, I fully understand,
But I have seen a lot of people fall into the FullHD marketing gimmick, everytime go to PCfair, promoters always said this monitor is full HD, must have, but I wonder, I only use for oridnary window environment, why I need one, ask those promoter, they always said, FullHD monitor is clearer (I taught it is more contrast issue), or sharper (has it anything to do with FullHD on window environment?), which always puzzled me on this issue.

dell s2409w is reli that terrible, i also notice the dimming. but r u sure that it's a fauty lcd , not becoz of adjustments?
*
Backlight problem?

I taught/knew Dell get their lcd panel from Samsung and AU Opt. (Spelling correct?)

Anyway, just received Dell 2209WA.

I have no choice, don't want TN panel, but can't get from outside ship, so only choice is 2209WA,
Initially taught of 24" non-TN panel, but Dell 24" VA panel simply too expensive cost 19xx.

Received Dell 2209WA, first time using now.

Colour is good, finally get rid of colour washout problem of TN panel. thumbup.gif
Colour is little more crisp than my old 19" Samsung TN panel.

Assembly is simple compared to Samsung. Samsung assembly problem always come from its stand (I previously using Samsung 19"), too fit to fix, while this 2009WA simply slide in the monitor onto the stand, viola.

High adjustable can swivel.
USB port on left side, no use for me as CPU stand at left block the passage.

Fairly satisfy with it. At 900 ok lah. 200+ more than TN panel, feel worth it.

Thumb up for the Dell service ordered on 14th, received today, 2 business days.

Ask a question, how most people clean their LCD screen. I left lot of mark on the screen due to oily finger, using damp cloth to clean seems can't clean thoroughly, still seeing some mark. sad.gif

Thanks, wil try

The monitor too heavy when first brought up after fixing the stand, nearly dropped it, so whole hand touch the screen when try to avoid the drop (a bit dirty).

For your Dell 2209WA monitor, do you notice any flicker or noise from it?
*
No, why? You got experience with it.

The earlier Dell 2007WFP monitor had a flickering problem when the brightness is below a certain level. And most LCD monitors have that buzzing sound that only goes away when you increase the brightness to 80% or above.
*
I had same problem with my old Samsung 93x (don't know 1 or 2, forget liao), brightness can below 15 or 20, the backlight will flicker a bit if notice carefully with all bright white page, need to at least set at 20 or above.

Does anyone know Dell's policy on dead pixels?
*
When I want to purchase the 2209WA, I came across they have zero bright pixel, 1 to 1 exchange, if not mistaken.

But dead pixel didn't come across.

If your budget is below 1k, I belive you only can get TN panel monitor because I-PS/VA panel monitor really $$$. May be you can take a look on LED monitor, a good rate was made by some LED monitor user in this thread. But currently LED monitor don't have HDMI input, or you wait for other brand release their LED product.
*
Yup, other than TN panel, it doesn't come cheap.

But recently manage to get 22" Dell 2209WA at 899 with IPS panel, fairly satisfy with it, as I can't find any other that come with non-TN at 1K budget.

Added on May 22, 2009, 3:00 pmTo add,
TN panel is ok and not that bad if you don't need to stand to watch the LCD, or any other reason that you need to see from some angle which is the major weakness of TN.

Currently Dell have another promotion =.=

Dell ultra sharp 2209WA RM699 damn cheap >.<

*
I just ordered 2209WA, RM 699.

Last month bought at RM899. After using it, fairly satisfy, today see got extra promotion bought 2nd unit (office usage)

Main reason don't want TN panel, and at slight more expensive than TN panel one, seem ok.

hmm, how was it if you compare to TN panel? thanks
*
Colour got different especially when you standing up to see time.

That's the main reason I choose IPS compared to TN.

If too expensive like 1699 (24") compared to TN 24" at around 7xx, I won't choose either, but this is about 200 difference for the 22" and 2209WA height is adjustable and can swivel as well compared to TN panel that only can tilt a little.

Straight looking at ordinary usage, little different. But the picture (colour) quality is a little crisp compared the replaced old Samsung 19".

To be precise, Dell 2209WA is using e-IPS, cheaper version of IPS. Viewing angle will be the same as IPS.

But of course H-IPS and S-IPS will be better, much more expensive too.
*
Actually what is e-IPS and different compared to S-IPS, can't find much information about it.

hi,

Dell 2209WA Monitor (S142209WAMY) at 699MYR (100MYR coupon), Dell G2410 Monitor (S14G2410MY) at 769 MYR (200MYR coupon), which one?

Which one is better buy? Thanks.
*
2209WA is E-IPS
Advantage : Better viewing angle and colour

G2410 is TN.
Advantage : 1920x1080
2" larger. biggrin.gif

It depended what you want is the most important factor.

See one small red dot on plain white. It is a dead pixel or what? or may be dust, try to clean now.

It appears a stuck pixel.

Can claim or not, as 2209WA is under premium panel category whereby they give zero dead pixel warranty.

Cheaper or extra discount one no good, as my first 2209WA at 899 seems ok, but this (the second one at 699 just barely a month old different between purchase), when opening the box already suspicious something, as vga cable is attached on the monitor, while the first one vga cable is consealed in the plastic bag one, don't have any cable attached with the screen.

About the stuck pixel, you can try a few methods like run a loop a unstuck pixel video, and gently rubbing on your screen in a circular motion.
*
Tried the rubbing method, no luck.

What is unstuck pixel video?

Can 1 to 1 exchange ah?

Will call Dell tomorrow morning. doh.gif

By right the VGA cable should be separated instead of attached on monitor, is it a recon set?

Did you checked the content before you signed the "acknowledgment slip" from courier company?
*
How to check the content, when it is a sealed big box when you received the box.

Logistics people won't wait you to unpacked, installed and check the unit pixels by pixel and wait you to sign, right? rclxub.gif

The pixel is red under white page.

But under black page, I can't see the dot.

Same with dark blue, can't find the dot.

The dot is noticeable under all lighter colour.
