Acer Console Rumours Resurface

I thought the rumours of Acer building a console died last year when they surfaced, but apparently not. According to German site Donamimhaber (lit: Hardware news) such a system is being built by Acer - using Nvidia's Ion platform no less.




This isn't just idle speculation, either. Donanimhaber has a bunch of official-looking slides to back up its claims. The system looks like a cross between nettops like the Eee Box - due to its monitor-mountable form factor - and the Wii, thanks to the proposed input method - motion-sensitive controller.
Calling the device a games console is probably a bit of a stretch. Simply put the system is simply a small PC which has enough grunt to play a reasonable selection of modern games at a decent resolution and graphic settings. Asus even has a similar offering already, in its Eee Box with dedicated Radeon HD 3400 graphics.
If this is more than just a concept piece it could prove an interesting product, nonetheless. Even if only as a rare example of a PC actually using Ion!

can acer compete in the gaming industry as WII is ahead of all the competitors.

for now it s imposssible but later on in the future..who knows?? technology is the weirdest things that we can get to see for now and for the future later on

No they can't

if they wanted to develop a new game console, it must match with ps3 and xbox360..or at least wii... or else developer would find hard time to code games for them.if they can match current console, game developer just need to make it multiplatform.

when xbox 1 was launched everybody were so sure that ps2 will pawn ms yes it happened but now tides has changed look at ms now with x360 selling well and overtook sony.So i guess we can never know.Unless acer releases its new console la.

like the design...

design of the console and remote are like Wii.. can the graphics capability match up with Xbox360 and ps3? If not, then its just another wii 'copycat'..

It still runs on a PC OS, you still need to install the PC games, required tonnes of patches and configuration before you can play a game smoothly. The wiimote wannabe thingy is just a wireless mouse.

So is it anywhere near the plug n play capability of current consoles?

Better get a gaming laptop if wana play pc games,Not many pc games are killer titles.

No they cannot.
They end up worst than 3DO, Atari Jaguar etc etc....

Is anyone that stupid to enter he market now?
I mean, when Wii is like taking over the world?
and when PS3 / 360 are still fist fighting with each other?
