oh my my im so confuse now rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

so if my student visa expires in march, I still can stay in melbourne?
or u mean i still can apply for PR after march - september ( and im back in malaysia? )

so medical i can do now la?? cuz i read in the booklet 6, says, wait for case officer stuff like that???

police check is 1-3 days????
then why do i hear all this 3 months thing??

is police check the same as good conduct thing??
notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif
*
if u back to malaysia then only apply = offshore application
what i mean was u can try get a tourist visa after ur student visa expired if u need more time..im not sure whether it works or not but i just read that u can only apply for PR if ur student visa is within 6 months after expired

i guess the 3 months thing is the case when u wan ur parents from malaysia help u do it and send it over to u...
but u can skip that step and go to canberra by urself to conduct the police check and get it on the spot...thats what my fren told me since she just did it on last month....

if u still unsure, walk into immi office and ask them...

i can see here that lots of young students are eager to get their pr upon graduation.... maybe they like the easy laid back way of life there, but there are always some things to remember:

1) tax rate is super high there - you are likely never to get rich there by working
2) in addition, there are many other types of taxes, CGT, GST, etc that you are paying for....all that goes to the govt.
3) the govt also controls the disbursement of your funds (pension money), unlike here you can retrieve all your EPF $ upon retirement
4) very harsh weather conditions there.....queensland flooding, sun cancer rates very high, some states facing water crisis, thus prices for basic utility like water and electricity are sky high
5) property prices are high...most aussies i see either stay with their parents or are renting.....
6) career wise, you are treated as 2nd class citizen....and hence upward promotion rate may be affected

so what's your objective of moving....for a better lifestyle?

just my 2 quids.....

oh yes, private health care also very expensive, you've gotta wait for free government medicare like everybody else.....which is OK, but not OK when you really really sick.

same like the UK, even LKY's wife was flown back to Singapore...would have died waiting.

disclaimer: i'm not intending to apply for an australian PR (just in case i'm being accused of sour grapes)

so i will try to refute your reply above, point by point.

1. yes, tax rate is incredibly high. but you get efficient government sectors at your disposal as a trade-off (effective police department, relatively uncorrupted system et cetera).

2. there are also CGT & GST (delayed) equivalent in malaysia. besides CGT in australia could be a very powerful tool to maximise your cash flow via negative gearing (if you plan your investments strategically and wisely)

3. australia's EPF equivalent is actually the superannuation; in which you can still withdraw them out upon retirement. pension, on the other hand is completely different; obtained from centrelink (subjected to asset and income tests respectively)

4. you must be naive to think that the weather in malaysia isn't harsh. where were you when treacherous flash floods took place up north, klang valley et cetera? not to mention, the excruciating haze from neighbouring countries. and pollution. urgh, yes the pollution. personally, i don't feel the price for utilities are expensive if you are earning in AUD.

5. how's that different from malaysia? property prices are booming everywhere.

6. LOL. that is so excepted isn't it? forget australia, kindly look closer to home as a comparison.

FYI, i doubt that there is such a thing as 'quids'; hence it is either 1 quid, 2 quid or 100 quid. unless you are referring to the american party fractions or my years in the UK has gone down the gutter.

LOL. in the UK, there is a huge distinction between the government's NHS and absolute private care.

i'm pretty sure LKY could have afford the cost for a first class private care for his wife.

hence, i sincerely believe it wasn't a monetary issue.

I have actually sent my police check form via post from my malaysian address to Putrajaya about half a month ago. But as the other forumers have mentioned, I'm not gonna make it before my visa expires, which is the end of this month. Am I allowed to do another one in Canberra? Anybody managed to get an appointment with them recently? I called them up last month and they asked me to call back on the first week of Jan.

Queensland just raised the cost of getting a gun license from 127 dollars to 230 dollars, citing the money will be used to implement a new system faster.

Reality?

- A PTA that used to take 1 to 2 weeks takes 2 months now. The forms have now increased from 1 page to 4 pages.
- A concealed weapons permit that took 28 days, now takes 3 months. A normal license now takes 2 months.
- Instead of getting a PTA which approved a range of weapons you wanted to buy and could be submitted by the buyer, you need to now choose before you do the paperwork, making changing your mind impossible.
- Consultation with experts said that the new system will slow things down by 80 percent as per experience with the QLD transport system. They essentially chose the same system which was proven as slower.
- The primary contractor which was known to be shit was chosen yet again.
- New law proposals propose tighter gun laws on licensed owners, but the punishment for illegal firearms use is the same. I didn't know criminals obeyed the law tongue.gif

If they were so efficient the tax payer wouldn't have kicked Labor out and replaced them with the liberals.

There's a difference between being a student and when you go out there and taste all the jizz the government forces down people's throats on a regular basis. Introduced to shit like council rates, increased power tariff and delivery costs, new hairbrained use schemes, state business registration crap, accountin standards and other paperwork, you tend to be angry and pissed like the locals. Now I know why they drink so much, because after I got my last bill after the rate rise, I wished I was drunk.

I just did research about starting a business from home in Vic and the shit I have to put up with from VICBUSINESS is amazing.
