Motherboard makers confirm Phenom II X3 unlock

DFI's 790FX can do it as well

According to the news post over at VR-Zone, motherboard makers have also confirmed the Phenom II X3 unlock, and apparently some others like Gigabyte are saying the same story.

Guys from VR-Zone apparently managed to get a screenshot from DFI that shows an unlocked Phenom II X3 running four cores on DFI's LP DX 790FXB-M2RS motherboard, and according to them similar success has been reported from Biostar, Gigabyte and others as well.

According to some other information on the net, this can be done on 0904 batches of Phenom II X3 CPU's and still we must note that there is no guarantee that is will be stable as some of those CPUs are indeed a true triple-core due to the some sort of defect on the fourth core. The other theory is that the forth core is simply disabled and that all four cores works just fine.

wanna try but still no shop selling yet....

heard that batch 0904 are only able to do this... summore whether the 4th core are stable or not depends on luck and the chip it self... but still, worth a try... save money summore...

bro ah_khoo stated that he can enable the 4th core but if it is stress tested with p95 or occt, the X3 will hang showing instability of the 4th core. maybe if the core is not that crippled then maybe luck is at ur side

got 0904BPAM, it was able to detect but it hung during detecting usb part of bios, after restart i was unable to get back the 4th core alas. p2 x3 720be+m4a78t-e

rly lucky if can get the 4th core stable p2 x3 and x4 price how much differ?

x3 720 and x4 810 is just ~100 difference actually but 810 is locked multiplier, 720 is way too easy to overclock

wahlao.. if me i just buy x4 laa. if buy x3 can get xtra core stable must be realy puas hati right..
but can oc better for cheaper price, realy not a bad deal

yup, d unlocked multiplier does make life easier for overclockers...

BTW we need to wait for the official bios release from DFI...

din't try stock (2.8GHz) but @ 3.0GHz still hang, no point tryin any lower.

i got it in Sim Lim Square (LYP of Singapore). price wise, more expensive than M'sia for sure...
