hi everyone!

i bought a falcon set on 12/07/2008 and today 25/02/2009 when i want to play a game suddenly something like graphic error has occurred. (see pictures)



1. my xbox is not having 3rod and i can still play games but the graphic will be like in those pictures... like a tv without good aerial. and there is no single red light appeared at all! no message from the system too
2. i really take a good care of her e.g put at open place and just playing 2-3 or 3-4 hours. i really love her but now i don't know why this happened!
3. it's not a monitor problem as now i am using the monitor with my pc to create this thread... and yes i am using vga cable to connect my xbox to the monitor.

well i don't know what else to tell...

kindly please help me to figure out how can i solve this problem?

can you try to replace the VGA cable?
it is a 3rd party cable?

how about try to connect using HDMI / component / composite cable?

thanks to your suggestion. rite after reading your post i pinjam my friend's tv and use the composite cable (white yellow red?) as soon as i switch on the tv and xbox 360 i said thanks God as i looks normal... but only then when i tried to play a game the problem occurred again!

what is E74? never heard about it before. when i want to purchase this xbox i only know about 3rrod. i really take a good care of it huhuhu i don't want to let it to RIP as it's only about half-year old

Waa, Sign for RROD?!
You could try;
-Using on other TV, again..
-Use different type of cables? maybe?
-Try plugging to monitor?
-Change resolution/video settings
-Try playing other games
-or simply, turn it off for a few days

anyone knows can kindly tell me what is the name of this problem? sign of 3rod or E74? thanks i have search E74 through internet and they said that E74 comes with red light too rite? but my console don't have even a single red light... yet

its a sign of RROD...it will soon appear..sorry dude..

i don't want to welcome rrod to my beloved console. what should i do now as it still can plays games? if want to repair i have to wait for my march's salary lah huhuhu

i dont think u can escape from that unless u replace the GPU with a new 1 that will cost u a bomb..or get jasper instead...

is not sign for 3rod is sign of 1rod the error code is E74.

better send for repair.

had the same thing displayed just before my xenon died of E74. it is 1rod, and it was an issue with the connection between the GPU and ANA chip.

I removed the xclamps and applied new thermal paste, then baked the system with only a fan on the CPU sink for about 12 mins, and it booted up ok, worked for 3 hours and died when I turned it on the day after. I guess if heatgunned, it might've kept on working for a while. There may still be hope by sending it in for repair.

if it is the E74 so it should comes with 1 red light rite? correct me if i am wrong as i am really a newbie to this. some web sites also stated that E74 = 3rod but there's no single red light at all appeared at my console. thanks for the info and i assumed that this is E74. i thought that i can do something by myself to solve this problem... after all still got the warranty then...

Is the machine covered by M$ warranty?

I would suggest you to acelerate the 3RRoD by turn on & off repeatitively every 10 mins & blocking all the vents to fluctuate the internal temp.

this is a confirmed recipe for 3RRoD so you can claim it @ SG.

you are having graphic errors right now, not a failure. the system is working, but with errors on screen. the errors you see are a symptom of E74.

if it is really E74, when the system fails, there will be 1rod, and the screen will display the E74 error message. then you can extract the error code to identify the issue.

I also had this before my Elite 360 3ROD-ed, so it may be ok now and sometimes it seems to be perfectly normal, but its just a matter of time before the red lights hit ya. Same thing I went through. Better start calling M$ Singapore for replacement.

OK bro, I got exactly the same error with my dying xbox.

The graphic glitch means that 'ur graphic chip is now more susceptible to heat after some time. Your usage, either light or heavy gaming dont matter, in time it will fail (blame the rudimentary heatsink). My xbox got this problem exactly a year after buying it.

Solution
-Do the x-clamp thing, it works. Make sure the heatsink is tight and had a full contact with the graphic chip.
-If it works, make sure you open up the xbox casing (dont put it back), make sure both heatsink have a maximum ventilation. Another tip is to place a small pc fan on top of the heatsink to generate more airflow (correction, this aint a tip, its important from my experience)
-If these solution works, then make sure it stays that way. Though generally speaking, 'ur xbox is currently dying, I'd say u had like 6 months before it 3RROD

I've mentioned sometimes before that the heatsink is not the one that caused the problem, but rather the chip packaging that caused the problem

my falcon is 6 months old too, worries me

my elite 1 year 2months seldom play everytime play running external fan behind to suck those evil hot air out and is not normal CPU fan is super speed fan which is same speed as the table fan but is small one. and hit by 3rod then i do normal hit up no towel trick just hit it up in 3rod mode then is working for 4weeks and now E74 ..Ta Da!!

At least when the repair cost is identical, M$ backed you up for 3 years "always fixable console" rather than a bricked system after several fix attempt.

last time i put my xbox 360 in vertical style as i know it was build to be put in either horizontal or vertical... i have also bought a notebook cooling pad for RM9.00 from lowyat and put my xbox 360 onto it. sorry i am not really good in drawing

My Xbox 360 got striked by E74 yesterday, just nice after 1 year anniversary. If I send for repair, how much will it cost me & how long can it last before the red light come back again?

How was Jasper? Did it manage to solve the 3ROD? Will it be better if I just buy Xbox 360 Arcade?

Just 6 month and last weekend I'm also got this graphic problem.Turn it off for a while.When on back,it become worst.NO audio, No picture and at LCD monitor shows NO signal.
I became HULK for a while and I scathe that thing till my palm hurt .
Suddenly it came back to normal got everything.Picture,audio all OK.

But it took for 15 munites only...That graphic problem came back
And now my precious totally kaput: NO SIGNAL-eventhough there is still green light-

kinda out of topic....but wanna ask u guys whether izit possible to swap a jasper chipset to a falcon chipset in a xbox? cuz i send my xbox to a shop to update the ahem...scared they switch my jasper chipset to something else or maybe change somethign inside...

no way to change the chipset la... diffrent type of chip use in jasper and falcon.. so they cant just switch... unless they are taking the whole thing ie the chipset and the mobo.. hehehe

AFAIK, falcon & jasper chip are "pin to pin compatible"

But that does not mean they're swappable between both boards.

Why? coz all power and input parameters are different for both chips. U need to change almost all the component to make it work.

So...I don think any genius will swap yur "precious" chip. kah kah kah kah
