where you bought it.? if from seller i believe you can return it back to the seller and get your money( if the seller told you it can be unlock bla bla but the baseband is on 2.30.03) but if from O2 i think you cant return it unless got problem with the phone..

p/s: i also have my O2 8GB iphone pre installed with 2.2.1 with 2.30.03 baseband, i cant do anything unless using sim unlocker etc.

i bought a pay as you go iphone from o2 as well only to realise that they come with firmware 2.2.1 out of the box. luckily i still able to return it within 14 days

but i have to keep the sim card tho. altho i am happy coz the sim card can be used on my old iphone 2g with free wifi and edge connection for a year

I think until today there are no any solution from yellowsn0w yet. Unleast You use turbo Sim to unlock...
