I have a gw-us54mini2g and I was wondering can I connect my wii to wifi even though I have a wired connection or do I need to buy the wifi connector?

If you mean setting up your computer as a WiFi AP/router and then connecting the Wii to it, the website say yes, you can

http://www.planex.net/product/wireless/gw-us54mini2g.htm

You'll need proper software tho, which I think should come with the dongle.

However I still recommend a proper router, less hassle.

You don't need a wireless router, because the key idea here is to turn the planex dongle and the computer into one. The software supplied with the planex should cater to that. Poke around in the supplied software.
