Anyone here that had done MRI scan, could you telll me the cost of it in Malaysia?
I had an old motorcycle injury, 4 year old. Walking is okay, but sometimes I do some running and the next day till a few weeks later the pain stays awhile. After prolong rest for a couple of weeks the pain is suppressed.
I'm suspecting it could be chondromalacia, ligament tear/rupture or lateral meniscus tear as the pain is on the lateral side of my knee.
Best if anyone could recommend an affordable physiotherapy doctor. Can't afford a few thousand dollars.

I did it back in Feb 2008 for my Spine, RM700 only. At Tung Shin Hospital. I believe it's the cheapest there.
somewhere around 2006 i did it in Pantai, Bangsar, about RM800+ , but because my relative was a staff there, got discount sikit.

How old are you btw? No, unlikely condromalacia.. most likely a ligament damage, which could have been severe and that's why you're still feeling the effect because a complete ligament tear would not heal spontaneously. Try going to government hospital - Orthopaedics department. They'll do the neccessary investigations to confirm it.. might include an MRI for free!

My father is a pensioner, so when he went for his scan, it was free. My older brother also went, but he had to pay for his scan -- he had some back injury due to his old sports injury. Sorry, I can't ask my bro how much he paid, he's outside of M'sia rite now. But anyways, I think there's a bit of a waiting list for Govt hosp's MRI scan, unless your case is serious, you'd probably have to schedule an appointment rather than going there and straight away gets to do the MRI...

I work at Tung Shin hospital, i believe that you can get a MRI scan there at a lower price compared to other private hospitals in Klang Valley. Its 700 for one region but its without contrast injection. The doctor will decide whether you need one or not. Additional charges for extra sequences done which depend on your history or scan indication. You got to have a request form to get the scan. The only setback is the waiting time for your report will take at least 2 hours and sometimes you have to collect it the next day. Best to get it done with an appointment made beforehand.

you cna go to any general hospitals, get recommendation from the docs there and go for free mri in the hospital. So easy. Then you can bring the mri results to a private hospital and get treated. why spend so much money on it?

But, in general hospitals you have to book your appoinments with them which might be months from now unless its an urgent case. Plus, they will not release the report and films to you. But, you can always ask for a copy of both report and films which you have to pay extra... Its a good choice if time isnt your concern.

I did lumbar spine scan at Pantai beginning of this month, without injection, RM780. SJMC was about RM1100, w/o injection. Assunta was about RM760, w/o injection too.
You can actually give them a call to find out the price.

I am not sure about whether or not you need the referral letter (I'm guessing you do need the referral letter), but what I know for sure is you cannot walk in and do your scan. Have to go see a doctor, make an appointment etc.

Btw, if i do MRI with company employee insurance from Great Eastern, does it normally covers all the MRI fee or just partially like 50-80% only? I only want to do MRI after getting reference letter from a doctor.

As JoeyRaye mentioned above, Tung Shin is around $700 without contrast. I happened to be there some months ago and casually asked about the cost - that was what the counter staff told me. This Lourdes Medical Center, a small hospital in Ipoh Road, has one. Could try enquiring. http://www.lourdes.com.my/services_facilities.html
