QUOTE(pennyzai @ May 23 2009, 11:49 PM) Hi guys, I just wanted to know does Digi broadband allowed you to share multiple computer at home?? You just need to buy a 3G wireless router... a few brand in the market that i know off... Dlink Dir451 is one of them which cost at RM460 in Low Yat... Personally, i don't use it...I heard the modem router which i'm using for my streamyx cannot be used anymore. I was been told that I need another special router which has USB in it so that you can plug in the DIGI USB into your router and that router which has USB cost around RM 800+. Is that true?? Can someone clarify this? I mean can someone who are using DIGI broadband now able to share with multiple computers using the normal router?? Appreciate if someone could help because i always wanted to change my streamyx bad line which is shared by 2 computers at home now. Cheers |

A few points to share with everyone before you subscribe to Digi broadband.
1. Additional charges when exceeded the quota. The most disadvantage of Digi package is additional charges after the quota whereas other service providers are just cap your browsing speed. 2. Pay, then only surf (when exceeded the quota) In Digi, once quota is exceeded, then it's like "Pay, then surf". Whereas, customer for other ISP still can online, although the speed is capped. Currently, Digi doesn't mention if customer can choose NOT to pay extra when over the quota or cap me whenever the quota is over, etc. It just mentioned that speed will be capped when over the max, RM138 (Discover & Explorer) or RM188 (Extreme). 3. Monthly Surprise!!! Discover... it's really meant DISCOVER... Customer could be caught into a surprise every month when receive the bill. There is no way for customer to control their browsing expenses at this moment. Although it's capped at RM138/RM188, but this is 138% extra for discover package or 28% extra for explorer package. Especially for Discover package subscribers, this really mean "DISCOVER", you're at risk by over expense >138% every month 4. Charge automatically when exceeded quota and the max is may be too high (by default). Digi should allow customers to decide their limit before being capped Customer should allow customer to decide their limit before the speed is capped (like postpaid or pre-paid, where you can only receive calls when limit is over or finish your balance). Example, customer A may choose to have speed cap immediately after hitting RM58, customer B may like to have RM68 as the limit, customer C can choose RM88, somebody may just don’t care, so on and so forth, with max at RM138. Hmm, 138 again 5. No notification when your quota is running low. Digi should do this like Pre-Paid. To me, this quota system is very similar to Pre-Paid mobile service. Digi should allow customer to check their balance at real time and notifies user when their quota is running low, says when 10% left. Digi should know this method much more than everyone of us, as Digi is considered as the leading provider in Pre-paid. 6. Extra charge is too expensive for Discover vs Explorer. Discover package is definitely not worth it if you tend to over 3GB monthly limit! On simple calculation, the charge at, cent/MB: Discover = 5800/3000 = 1.9333 cent/MB Explorer = 10800/10000 = 1.08 cent/MB Extra charge: (Discover RM0.15/10MB, Explorer: RM0.05/10MB) Discover = 15/10 = 1.5 cent/MB Explorer = 5/10 = 0.5 cent/MB By simple comparison (normal rate vs extra charge): Discover: (1.5 - 1.9333)/1.9333 = 22% saving Explorer: (0.5 - 1.08)/1.08 = 54% saving More reasonable extra charge for Discover is RM0.10 per 10MB: (Not sure if this is considered reasonable to Digi) RM0.10/10MB, (1 - 1.9333)/1.9333 = 48% saving 7. Cap speed is too low... 128kbps cap speed is too low and it's only slightly 2X more than old modem speed, 56kbps. |

Yes, there are rebate (only for 12 month) if you use your own modem. And this give u flexibility for upgrade or downgrade in first 12 months (as you'll need to pay the modem in full if plan to switch before the first 12 months).
3G modem is cheaper nowadays... |

QUOTE(JimBeam101 @ Jun 9 2009, 09:45 PM) Hi how is the speed at Sungai Nibong, Penang? I tried near Queensbay Mall and the signal is considered good (about 2-3/5 bar)... speedtest is also good at ~1Mbps/0.2Mbps...I'm still comparing Digi and Celcom. Maxis is out for me....coz i've read a few bad reviews about it. I will opt for the cheapest package available as i'm not a heavy user. Any other recommendations? Added on June 10, 2009, 8:31 am QUOTE(clsia1001 @ Jun 9 2009, 09:07 PM) Bro... Discover plan has only 3GB... don't do too much of speedtest, otherwise you limit will finish very soon Why not consider explore package? Discover plan is not worth it if you're a medium-heavy user. I presume that you're talking about usage history or data statistics feature which keep track of how much you've used... this is useful to avoid the monthly limit...
But, the feature is not available in all type of modem... you need to check your modem manual for this feature... most Hua Wei modem got this feature... However, the statistics is merely for references only... and it will not accurate if you frequently move your modem to different PC... The best method is to ask Digi to provide this feature in their system... |

if they are referring to data statistics feature... then, the answer is a big NO... Digi BB simcard only 64k, how to keep all the history?
btw, not only the modem from digi support the feature... as far as i know, Sierra brand also support this... but, frankly speaking... that's only for reference... not accurate one... |

better check it out from Digi call centre or website... black n white from Digi is the final word... promoter??? sometime they are part time only... |

QUOTE(clsia1001 @ Jun 12 2009, 05:53 AM) ya.. i know, just wanted to test out first... so far only use for 3 days, 1GB gone d... after 3GB, you'll still enjoy 3.5G speed with RM0.15/10MB till RM138, then Digi only cap you at 128kbps...Yea, one of the reason. Another reason coz I am not always under DiGi 3G coverage area.. Ohya, after 3GB, how it will be? still be be at 3.5G speed until RM138? So total how many extra GB i can get for RM138 if i used up to the maxcap?? Also the 3GB counter reset will be according to my bill cycle or on the 1st of the month? My bill cycle is 12th but D'Chat CS told me the counter reset will be on 1st of the month.. Frankly speaking, i don't know how is Digi's charging scheme... if i looked at my unbilled transaction from Digi OCS, it's calculated per login session then only your usage volume... I haven't verify this with Digi... E.g Login Session#, Total Usage, Charge #1, 2MB, RM0.15 #2, 3MB, RM0.15 #3, 78MB, RM1.2 #4, 11MB, RM0.3 Total usage: 94MB Total: RM1.8 However, if you calculate by RM0.15/10MB, it should be RM1.5... so, if Digi network become unstable and cause frequent dc, then it's really a burden to our pocket money May be someone has clue on this... coz i'm still first month with Digi bb i checked with Digi CS, the counter reset on bill cycle... Added on June 12, 2009, 8:37 am QUOTE(darkskies @ Jun 12 2009, 07:14 AM) Infact it's promoters that bring news of what's the latest package. Not many are willing to walk into digi centers unless their lines are blocked due to expired bills or over useage of credit limit. Most of the time some promoters are trying real hard to introduce the packages wheareas they got the impression from customers thinkin that they are tryin to cheat them Millions of money. I have no mean to offend any promoter here and appreciate their dedication to serve all the customer... it's better we have an official black n white from Digi before commit ourselves to a plan... or get few more answer from the promoters... after all, we're the person who bear all the consequences if anything happen... my personal experience: Question 1: If i take Explore package with modem, what happen if i terminate my line before 1 year The answer i got: Promoter #1: You have to pay the remaining modem fee... (RM15 * remaining month) (My response: hmm... not bad hor, why not i just subscribe, then cancel it later... i still got a cheap modem Promoter #2: Digi will not fine you as it's no contract and same to your modem, coz it's given free when u subscribe it (Free mean free mah...) (My response: R u sure? Is Digi so aggressive? Where got so big frog jumping around in the street?) Promoter 3: Digi will not fine you but you have to pay full modem fee for remaining month (RM30 * remaining month) (Bingo!!! She got the correct one, definitely she did a good study on this) (My response: this is more reasonable and make more sense from business point of view, Digi is not a charity company) Imagine, if i trust the second one, then what will happen if i go for extreme package (since it's free then mah free one loh) and then decide to downgrade it after 1 month??? yes, it mean you have only 3GB (Discover package) or 10GB (Explore Package) or 20GB (Extreme package) for download and upload per monthly bill cycle...
you can use Digi plan recommender to find out which package is suitable for you... http://www.digi.com.my/broadband/recommend_v2.html that is just a general guideline only |

QUOTE(clsia1001 @ Jun 14 2009, 04:56 PM) if according to ur calculation, it would be: This is what i know so far... but, still need to find out how Digi charges us... base on the duration of a login session or total usage regardless of the # of login session...RM58 for first 3G, then until RM138 I will have extra RM80 RM0.15 per 10MB, so to archive RM80, I will need to times 533.33 to RM0.15 to get RM80 Therefore my 10MB times 533.33 will be 5333.3 MB And convert to GB will be 5333.3/1024 = 5.2083 GB? Like tat?? Conclusion, I will pay RM138 for 8.2GB @ 3.5G Speed if I fully utilize the map capped? |
