At the end, the orang putih read a few words and he smile, n the scene then shows adult Pi with his family. My question is, why the orang putih smile? Isn't the ending is Pi really stucked on the boat with the few animals? Why some forumers said the actual ending is the story where Pi told the Japanese, or the ending can either be Pi stucked on boat with a few people or the story can also be Pi with the few animals? Isn't the whole movie is Pi with animals?

I'm confused coz I watched the movie, n thought all along it's Pi with animals, n then I read this forum, n some said Pi is actually with humans, so I need some explanation to those who knows the truth. I just wanna know why the orang putih smile at the end, n i wanna know, so Pi is with the animals, right? Thx.
