Depends lah, protection has stunted Proton for a long time, only with recent competitions, Proton has been force work harder...

Example, in early 2000's, the difference of price between national car and foreign is so big since the government increased tax during 1998 financial crisis....thus Proton and Perodua can maintain with market share...

In 2003, Toyota and Honda delivered a shocker, Vios and City which is practically just over RM 10 to 15 k of Waja......

That time, Honda City I-DSI was about RM 78,888

In 2006 or 2007, Proton changed its CEO, only since then, there has been a revamp of how Proton works...

Conclusion, is competition makes a company forced to work harder...

In terms of spec, the Proton Exora should a bit better than the Livina

Hah? From many press reports even on The Edge, they mentioned less than RM 80K

The seven-seater MPV, which costs less than RM80,000, comes in five choice colours and is powered by a 1.6-litre CamPro engine.

QUOTE

The company also revealed that the Proton Exora MPV will be priced at under RM 80,000 and will be available in 5 colours - Genetic Silver, Tranquility Black, Blue Haze, Pyrite Brown and Gaia Blue. In terms of safety, all variants will have at least 2 SRS airbags as standard, but this will be as far as it will go in terms of total airbag count. The Proton Exora will be built in the Shah Alam plant. Cost of development was slightly over RM 450 million.

Sooner or later, protectionism has to be wiped out

Malaysia has to pay some form of compensation to Thailand because Malaysia delayed AFTA for auto sector from 2003 to 2005

It is not healthy now, i can see some people take 9 year package just to buy cars, it is ridiculous

Sadly not many thinks like you
Instead of competing healthily they are asking for more protectionism
And i can sense that we are heading that way

Its because of uncontrolled inflation, things are more expensive while wages has been stagnant for the past few years now
There were talks about minimum wages ruling and a set of wage matrixes, still nothing has materialized yet
In order to fulfill todays need, the lower income range has got to borrow 9 years

Proton and Perodua no longer ask for protectionism

Now it is more like the cutting tax is simply too risky for the government, as the revenue of automotive taxation is simply too large for government to cut.....

Em......COE for Malaysia can work eh...

The cronies are asking not the company wink.gif

Thats what you get when you depend on taxes too much instead of hardwork at fields

Can, tried tested and proven, but whether the cronies will give up without a fight is an entire question
