Sifu coolandy,

Yes Af and all of us are color blind but most out there are not. Otherwise they won't call us Bangsa Asing ( foreign Race).

Sifu Lucas,

Who are those in the institutions  give us bad time? You knew it very well.
*
Those are the minority corrupted and bad guys and the bad Malaysians. They are the black sheep and disgrace of our nation. We are not and so we shouldn’t behave like one. Because of them, that is the main reason why so many Malaysians are so up-set and discontented with them that they changed 5 states in the last election. Tomorrow, 1st of August, 100,000 angered Malaysians of multi ethnic are fearlessly and peacefully marching to the ISTANA protesting against the infamous ISA act which has been exploited by these bad Malaysians to victimize the good guys who do not agree with them. I salute them and how I wish I could join these true Malaysian patriotic brothers and sisters too. I feel shy that I couldn’t go this time as I am committed in helping in the preparation for the TEOH BENG HOCK MEMORIAL in SP together with the Indian and Malay brothers.

Take it easy, my dear friends and brothers. Of course, we do know that those bad guys in the INSTITUTIONS are making not only ours but also all Malaysians’ lives miserable for the past 50 odd years due to their greed. We shall fight them without fear and in UNITY, the legal way. But, we shall pin-point it specifically and not one broad sweep to envelop the innocents too, right?

Recently, many BHs in Kedah were burglarized. A few thieves were caught. They all happened to be the local Chinese gangsters. They landed in hospital with heads and arms broken. Does that mean that all Chinese are thieves?

A few months back, in Kulai, Johor, a few Malay thieves were caught inside a BH. These thieves revealed and led the police to a shop in JB selling bird’s nest, shark fin and dried food belonging to a notorious Chinese Dato. In the shop, all the stolen nests were found. In the end, the Dato made his son the scapegoat and now his son is on bail. This Chinese Dato was a pioneer in the BH industry. Does that mean that all Chinese Datos are thief masterminds?

Pas spiritual leader, Tok Guru Nik Aziz is recognized by all Malaysians for being a colour blind, passionate and fair leader with wise wisdom and well loved and respected by all races. But that also does not mean all other Pas leaders are like him? There are idiots and racists in Pas too.

One BH in one particular area is producing 10 Kg of nest per month does not necessary mean the other 100 units nearby are doing the same. Many are not even having a few grams of bird’s shit. But that is enough to give a wrong impression to mislead some top law makers thinking that all BH owners are filthy rich simply just because they were shown a few successful BHs. This is exactly what one idiot Kedah EXCO’s justification to propose to slam high license fee on Kedah BHs now.

Aiyaya……… Latest news received, Penangites are going to be busy again. The only Pas ADUN in Penang state has passed away this morning due to heart failure in IJM making way for the 8th BY-ELECTION since 308. Why most YBs passed away are from Pas? Probably, the Pas filled in too many too senior men. High time for Pas to consider using younger and open minded talents. It looks like most passed away YBs are known good men. Why??????? May be it is time, some bad men should go also…….so that rakyat suffer less. What do you all think?????

Khairil Sani Wong sounds like a cina muslim.

Apologise for saying so but there are few cina becoming muslim for the sake of getting advantage from the system.

Putting political and racial differences aside, Beng Hock case is a real tragedy that all Malaysians should voice up. There are many BH case in the past and sure there will be many BH in the future but what touches us most is this young man looking forward for a brighter future the next day calling up merely as witness but ended up dead for no reason.

But how many among us got involved or care for this issue where innocence life just robbed away like this. Among 100 probably less than 3 interested to voice up or attend the memorial based on the response that we got. Where are the rest?

Glad that among 3000 that attended BH memorial last wk, quite few malays and indian bro. But majority chinese sleeping care for their own business only. May be counting money lah, tat's what they are more interested.

Hey, go tell your frens MU coming to town or MJ memorial at Stadium Merdeka just see how many chinese santa clauses will come. doh.gif

Sorry off topic. Quite piss with what I see. Better look at birds to relax a bit.

Our highest salute to all those brave men and women who took part in yesterday’s ABOLISH ISA CAMPAIGN PEACEFUL MARCH. Today’s papers and the news and photos in the nets showed openly gross physical abuses and violent exerted on these unsung patriotic heroes and heroines. Despite with the basic citizen rights vested under our constitutions, yet they were brutally man-handled by the supposedly protector for laws cum enforcing agency. These enforcing agencies have literally acted like LICENSED CRIMINAL ORGANIZATIONS such as the MAFIA or the SECRET SOCIETIES taking the laws into their own hands. Who is to check these organised crimes committed by these highly and professionally thugs trained by our elected Govt using our tax money? They are indeed the bigger crooks than the illegal crooks and gangsters. In fact, almost 80% of the Malaysia Govt departments are one way or another flouting and circumventing the laws frequently and soon with no surprise at all, Malaysia will be at par with Myamar or even worse. Situation seems worsening since Pak Lah’s era………..How sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!..........................My wife says she doen’t mind Pak Lah to come back if there is a choice…….. At least, such abuses weren’t that openly done……..during the BERSIH…………The police did it curi-curi ayam way that time………

To those who are fighting a much appreciated course in defending the Edible-nest Swiftlets, I hope the info posted below will be of help. Please allow me to quote some bits and pieces from the research paper below

Problems in the harvest of edible birds’ nests
in Sarawak and Sabah, Malaysian Borneo by JOSEPH J. HOBBS
Department of Geography, University of Missouri-Columbia, 8, Stewart Hall, Columbia, MO 65211, Biodiversity and Conservation 13: 2209–2226, 2004.
# 2004 Kluwer Academic Publishers. Printed in the Netherlands.

Quote 1: .....such as Good Luck Cave, which contains Sarawak
Chamber, the world’slarge st cave chamber.
The park is managed by the Sarawak Forest Department which, by several
informants’ accounts, bears responsibility for much of the illegal bird nest
harvesting. The salaries for park staff are very low, and yearly renewable
contracts keep the prospects of termination weighing on them. These unfavorable
termshave led to a recent steep decline in the number of rangers
(from 16 to 8) and other park staff, with some important consequences. First,
there are fewer guides to take visitors to the more remote caves, without which
those caves go largely unmonitored and unprotected. Second, several staff
membershav e become corrupted, and profit from the theft and sale of the
birds’ nests, either by collecting the nests themselves, or more typically by
looking the other way in exchange for a share of the profits

Quote 2: I asked several involved parties why it was apparently impossible to prevent
nest theft at Niah. Some emphasized the practical difficulties. Paschal Dagang
of the Sarawak Forest Department, for example, said ‘‘They can sneak in
because there are so many passages, and we don’t have enough enforcement
staff’’.

Quote 3: Other sources told me the problem was not that the soldiers were incapable
of effective patrolling, but that they were corrupted and took bribesof 20–30
ringgits(US$ 5.26–7.89) to ignore theft. Niah’sNational ParkWarden Mutalib
Abu Tajudin was especially bitter about this collusion, and about his inability
to crack down on poaching. He admitted that he and most other park employees
generally avoid the cave and any dealings with the poachers, because
the poachers threatened that any intervention would cost the lives of park staff
family members and of tourists visiting the cave.

***************************************************

The above research was done in 2003 and paper published in 2004. Is the present situation in Sarawak same as then?

With the great decline of ebn in the wild, I guess it is difficult for them to cari makan so they have to focus their attention to the bird houses in towns.

Do you think the relevant authorities have the well being of the birds as their main priority?

I hope so but I doubt it.

Agreed and it's about time the so called PCA or something like that Associations which champion the cause for Animal cruelty take action against the forestry Department of Sarawak for causing the death of million of cave swiftlets for which they are paid to protect and instead do more killing in town's birdhouses which are the last sanctuaries for the swiftlets even thought since then, the birds have evolved. If we are to leave the birds to the forest rangers ( shamefully referred to as the protectors of wild species), the swiftlets may be very soon be gone forever from this planet.

I can't see why the the world organisations are making such big fussed about killing of a dog and a cat while remaining silent in the destruction of the thousand of wild swiftlets in the cave in Sarawak and lately in MUKAH town in the pretext of trying to save the species. What the forestry department is try ing is to eliminate the wild swiftlets. They can't even protect the swiftlets in the cave and shameful to say that our sea turtles suffer the same faith and even as I am saying, turtle eggs are sold in open markets around the country and no one is taking action of stopping it even sea turtle are really facing extinction and soon only appear in our books only.

If we are to leave our swiftlets to the authorities, the birds will suffer the same faith as the sea turtles. Fortunately, the swiftlets are smart creature and know that it's time to move home and migrate to our building where the buildings' owners can protect them from predators ( human being being the worst kind)......and since then, the birds have successful evolved for the better of the species. The turtles are less fortunate and if they lay golden eggs, somewhere, some places or some how, someone will build a giant sea enclave for the turtles to breed for mutual benefits........although with self interest but it will save the turtles from extinction and may increase their population.........a win win way.

Sometime when someone mentioned that we do not share with other races, I get so fired up as I have personally taught many Bumi how to start BH or how to get best deal when approched by people wishing to JV with them. To say that we are selfish and not sharing really put a dagger into our heart......cos we treat everyone equal but as for myself, I go even further for the BUMI to convince them to venture into the trade. Shame on those who tarnish our good deed in trying to help other Malaysian.

Subject: fresh bird shit

"hi,can i use my friend's BH fresh bird shit put into my floor of BH?
is it good to attract bird?
thanks"

ANSWER: Yes, definitely correct as the fresh shits do really smell and that smell will definitely attract birds. Try to localise the shit and remember the designated area so that you would know if there is new patches of new birds’ shit. This is to prevent confusion on any increasement in the birds staying. Make sure that it is fresh swiftlet shit and not chicken shit...ha.hahaha

Above are my answer to his question and other that feel differently or have other views o opinion, please do add on.

I love you guys.

Read many pages back. MIA as usual.

West Wing, is there any chance that the heavy weights in the industry can hook up with MNS or WWF? I think the only way we can remove AF from the protected list is by getting such parties involved, using the UN Animal Protection policies as a solid base for lobbying. A family member has met MNS's head once, a Singh if not mistaken. The impression i got was that he is a person of firm beliefs, sincere and walks the talk. Even his home is environmentally friendly & self sustainable. I have no idea of his stand regarding this industry, but there's no harm in poking around eh? As i mentioned before, there are a few ways we can approach this;

1. If someone can spearhead a study of AF population in both town and standalone units... a proper research. Proper methodology, lit review, proper sampling, questionnaires... the works.... something of academic standards that would make it hard for people to doubt the results. Based on this the industry reps can slap PERHILITANS face, even JPV's. By right, this should be PERHILITAN or JPVs jobs, but i doubt they'd even think of it. Even better, get an institution involved. UPM has a veterinary department, i'm sure there are some ornithologists there. Our beloved Lim Chan Koon maybe? He's more than qualified.

2. A petition/memorandum. Online or not. March like the 1st August? Hehehe! Not to that extent for now.. but a signed petition to revise PERHILITANS jurisdiction over EBN and town BHs should be done. Considering its PERHILITAN thats killing the industry.

3. Isn't there someone advising the chap from Jabatan PM about this? Or are they scheming something bad for the industry again (like OneAgencyControllingSwiftletIndustryAtoZHowToMakeMoneyFromThisInAMannerOnlyTheGovCanGetAwayWithIt)? Was the workshop and the input given by our kepala's in vain? Is there any follow up? This may sound ridiculous but a suggestion like an Inquest or Suruhanjaya Khas Industri EBN would be nice. Problem solve... authority. But then again... theres nothing ensuring that the panel member won't be one sided or selected based on loyalty to certain quarters. Hmm.....

Removing PERHILITAN's jurisdiction is one thing, preventing another agency from gaining MORE jurisdiction is another. Kudos to those who spoke out the truth towards these agencies. We try to do our own part, even for someone as insignificant as me... i try to be vocal when possible. Always believe change takes time... but a simple idea or action will have a ripple effect given time and persistence. Staying idle won't do much help.

I... will get very emotional once talking about race. For one... it is my own race that has defiled the sanctity of democracy of our beloved country. Its difficult when you have a ruling government that can't differentiate what is a government and what is a political party. Whatever it is... the 1Malaysia concept... we've been doing this for many years now. Even since '98. From a small ripple... now a tsunami. Give some more time... hehehe, who knows? Makkal Sakhti!!!

Rambling as usual. Uncle Ben, Auntie J dah bersara and kerja kat UN! Anyways, theres more to meet the eyes with humanitarian aid. >.<

I totally agree with your suggestions. Lord Datuk Carnbrook have classify AF and stress that they are either a hybrid or a sub species and hence renamed then AF Domesticus and they will not roost in caves. This is a valuable new domestic animal like chicken, cattle and bees and should be classify as such. There are now millions and millions of these birds in SEA regent and no danger of being threaten with extinction any time soon. Even V2 is called HOME OF Fuciphagus Domesticus TQVM Seeseng

Swift Associations should lobby strongly to reclassify them. Veterinary Department should get a grant and do a DNA profile and settle this argument once and for all and should be taken away from the CITES list of endangered species. All of us should bring to the awareness of all PPL concern and the general public that these are not wild and endangered species but a valuable asset to our beloved country Malaysia.

“Rambling as usual. Uncle Ben, Auntie J dah bersara and kerja kat UN! Anyways, theres more to meet the eyes with humanitarian aid. >.<” ?????

Please explain your above statement.!! I hope you are not insinuating that volunteers like your Auntie J have other motive other then her unselfish desire to bring benefit to millions of PPL. Now that she is Chief of NUFPA we are in a better position to get AID and grants to help more PPL.

Through Her connections I am applying for RM1..,… Grant from UN… to promote Fire Risk Reductions Program, Teaching and Training Villages to prevent Longhouse Fire and providing free Fire Extinguishers to more than 50 longhouses in Sarawak. Why not come and join us.

Tan Sri Dr. Jemilah QUOTE” If I could reach up and hold a star for every time a person we have helped has made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand.” UNQUOTE.

Just for information Pak Han seminar is totally sold out 100 pax. 5 Pax rejected and sadly 2 late comers from Sarawak are also not taken in. More than 70% are from Malaysia and there are participants from Thailand and Singapore.

Come and and ask all the questions and acquire the knowledge and confident to build and manage your own BH rather than be leaded by the nose and milked slowly and then feel the pain later. See you all in Jakarta and we will have FUN.

Hope that the Sifus here can really help the BH industry as I am here busy trying to prevent a Telcomunication Tower from being setup and trying to get another TT to be demolished. One of the Culprits being our BH owners who rented the 3 rd. top floor to the telecommunication company to build tower 10 feet infront of housing area and he build a BH at the 2nd. Floor with the entrance facing the residential houses.

Not only have to solve his BH night disco fever and now to add to the pain, we have to help to prevent the T. Tower for being installed.

To solve everyone problem, why not use the top floor for BH operation and have a roof entrance then everyone will be happy and can have a good night sleep. Although I have no BHs in the vicinity, those staying at the area don't mind the day sound, but c'mon, no night sound please, people need their good night sleep. Forget what your consultant told you to have a 24 hours night fever.......plus now that you have added more pain by allowing a t. tower on top of your BH. You are going to kill us all with your stubbornness, greed and inconsiderate.

Sometime, you find such sucker, who want birds and want also fast money, too. Hope this guy from KT is one of the readers.

Sorry Uncle Ben, what i meant is that Mercy Malaysia has gone beyond what other NGO's in Malaysia ever dreamed of, not even PPIM or ABIM has such an organized aid structure (except for the army of course). Government support, solid international networking and now, the UN where she can now facilitate Mercy from a higher end position (exactly as you said). Actually i was hoping if she had any relevant contacts that might assist in the AF industry. What comes with humanitarian aid to other countries and our own, is a following of politicians, businessmen, opportunists wanting to get a little bit of credit for other peoples effort. True or not? >.< Mana tau ada a few in JPN, JPV or relevant agencies. Maybe direct to PM... since bird's nest is somewhat relevant nutritionally... malnourished kids... lacking essential amino acids, all 8 of them (8 i think). Mercy should start recruiting from med school (each intake, make it a point to ask the med school to give talks about Mercy). Don't recruit HO's, kesian wooo... maybe dormant MO's with no intention of furthering masters or mrcp/cs/cog. Got many of them. Lazy buggers.

Our PM did mention yesterday (Star 5th August 09 N4 'Agropolitan way to eradicate hardcore poor')... Agropolitan as part of the ECER... "other activities in the pipeline are birds nest cultivation, mushroom planting, tailoring, tourism & home stay programs"...[I]

Birds nest cultivation sounds weird. What i can guess is that soon... maybe in 2-3 years time there will be a government program or project regarding birds nest to help eradicate the poor. Assuming a size of 25X60/40 ft... a successful BH can sustain at least 30-50 families (maybe more?), with minimal workload (relative to the number of family members) but rather high initial cost. Maybe one YBK (Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan) BH per kampung? Per daerah? Who knows what those pouring advice to the PM would come up with. This itself is an opportunity to gain profit... chose the wrong consultant, choose the wrong contractor... all bungkus like those people that got MARA/Tekun loans... and again tainting the industry with a high failure rate shunning away financial institutions and agencies that would have helped.

My point is... if i were as experienced as those here, i'd form my own group or c/o, come up with a own proposal to the relevant buggers, something like the above, get a grant under one of those gov schemes and make a pilot project involving the hardcore poor. If not, just spend some money for a medium sized one, get endorsement as a pilot project (formally, black and white and make sure guarantee of future contracts with success of pilot) from the relevant authority... This is of course after considering the feasibility, location, etc2. Pilot project proven ok (plus credentials and a good number of profit making [as a track record] BH's under the groups belt plus plans on processing, marketing blablabla)... sapu semua la... dengan syarat... properly consulted, properly built, properly maintained. Not enough getting contracts to build? Offer training to the people involved, the gov tanggung. To me i don't really care who gets such a program as long as it is fruitful and proven as a solid poverty eradication program. More successful BHs he better. More acknowledgment of the industry, the better. Then go spread the idea to Indonesia. State owned BH to eradicate poor (kinda an extreme idea ain't it? crazy man talking).

Ya la West Wing... there are some owners in KT that totally disregard others. I dare not comment much about KT town BH's, the fact is, its BH owners that cause more trouble than even the PBT (saja carik pasal with pbt and openings for public to complain). Might sound like a MBKT dog. Haha!

Malaysiakini report in reply to WW article. Sad but true(except the droppings). Guess end of the day, selfish breeders are the one sabotaging own and the rest of our rice bowls.

'Bird motels' boom sparks protests
Aug 6, 09 10:56am, Malaysiakini

Thousands of bird 'motels' have opened across Malaysia to lure the swiftlets whose nests are harvested to make bird's nest soup, a costly delicacy in Chinese cuisine.

But as the business booms and flocks of swiftlets - who make the nests out of their saliva - descend on towns and villages, the noisy, messy practice has triggered a wave of protest.

In the heart of the coastal town of Klang, the owner of the Goldcourse Hotel has converted part of the multi-storey building into a swiftlet "motel".

To entice the swiflets to build their nests in their concrete home - and not their natural cave habitat - from sun-up to sun-down a soundtrack of shrill bird noises including mating calls is blasted from speakers.

Nearby, other entrepreneurs have opened competing ventures by turning four-storey shophouses into bird havens, and the cacophony and shower of bird droppings is alienating those living and working nearby.

"The sound is so loud and irritating, and the bird droppings can be harmful to our health," said local resident Abdul Hamid Abdullah as he watched the swiflets dart in and out of the buildings.

"These birds build their nests in caves. That is where they should be," the 46-year-old told AFP.

A RM20 billion industry

Malaysia's swiftlet industry began in the 1980s but gained momentum after the 1997 Asian financial crisis when entrepreneurs converted the interiors of abandoned properties into bird motels.

Fans of the gelatinous soup, which is popular in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, say it can stave off ageing, boost sex drive, prevent lung disease and enhance the complexion.

A kilogram of the small, cup-shaped nests can fetch RM4,000, and the combination of big profits and a lack of legislation has seen countless swiftlet "farms" established illegally in populated areas.

Kenneth Khoo, from the Small and Medium Industries Association in Penang, told AFP that the global trade in raw bird's nests was estimated at RM20 billion.

"Swiftlet farming in Malaysia is a sunrise industry. Demand far exceeds supply as more wealthy Chinese emerge," he said, adding that bird's nest soup remains a status-booster on business menus in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Khoo said Indonesia controls up to 70 percent of the business in the region, sourcing its bird's nests from both caves and farms, while the other two main producers are Thailand and Malaysia.

He estimated that there are at least 35,000 swiftlet farms in Malaysia, only about 4,500 with legal permits, in a business worth RM800 million to RM1.2 billion.

Call for ban of swiftlets farming

But as the industry expands along the east and west coasts of peninsular Malaysia, opposition to the swiftlet farms is growing louder and environmentalists are demanding a complete ban.

There are also allegations of cruelty as some "farmers" reputedly destroy chicks and fertilised eggs in order to harvest the nests at times when prices are high.

Conservation group Friends of the Earth has condemned the trade and called on the government to close down the proliferating swiftlet farms.

"This rather impetuous booming industry has led to complaints from the public due to the nuisance, health hazards and the number of bird hotels coming up," said Mohamad Idris, president of the group's Malaysian branch.

"Collectors may not wait long enough for the young to fledge, often throwing the chicks onto the ground or leaving them to die after taking the nests," he said.

"In view of the problems faced by many in the farming of swiftlets and from the welfare point of view of the birds, we would like to call for a ban on all farming of swiftlets."

dunsuntutmybuntut ....thank you for clearification no harm done. I assure that we are sincere and My idea of promoting Spiritual Farming.

meaning : what ever we do we must be conscious that it should also benifit others. Yes you should make a reasonable profit for your product or services but make sure the client also benifit . Whats about chemical free processing of BN ?

Another example I am producing organic Dragon Fruits and get a preminum for my product the consumer benifit from not being poison slowly. Most vegetable farmers does not care and load their product with insectsite to make them look presentable and don't care . Others may not be aware of the harm done on the long run.

I put in research and at great expence to produce worm compost and microb and is expending my worm farm. BH owners interested just PM me I am most willing to share FOC.

Sarawak swiftlets is suffering from haze. Worse area is Mukah and Miri. BH owners reported that only 40% of birds come back to roost. My close friend with more then 1000 nest reported that lots of babies are found dead in his BH and 80% of eggs in nests are abandont. We are all suffering and living in a gas chamber .

Go and PM Sifu Benchai on how to make money before you can harvest your EBN if you are having a BH away from town as town? I doubt that the authority will allow us to do so.

As your BH grows so will your plants, fishes and worms; I know for certain that fruits and vegs. really grow well with birds' shits and what about worms and fishes.

Sad to hear that haze is affecting the birds in Sarawak but here, we experience a hugh increase of birds lately maybe from Sarawak and Indonesia due to the Haze.....and we do have Haze but not that bad.

Coming next!

FENDONA is highly effective at low use-rates, and its low toxicity makes it safe for humans, mammals and the environment in general. In fact, FENDONA can be safely applied to kitchens, restaurants and food storage and processing areas. The combination of low dose and strong safety profile have placed FENDONA high on the World Health Organization’s list of recommended insecticides for use against malaria-bearing mosquitoes...

..... although mosquitoes isn't a problem with BH, birdmites and bugs do andmany friends told me that Fendona is good but I find that they have use it wrongly. They use Fendona every harvest and in strong concentration but Fendona can last to 9 months on a single application and a little goes a long way, right? Why waste, just use little every 2 to 3 harvest to be 100% safe for the birds and human and also save money, too.

By the way, where to buy FENDONA by BASF????

From Bobby C's post;

"Call for ban of swiftlets farming

"In view of the problems faced by many in the farming of swiftlets and from the welfare point of view of the birds, we would like to call for a ban on all farming of swiftlets.""

Kepala buntut Sahabat Alam Malaysia / Friends of Earth. How can they comment such when they don't understand the bird's behavior.

From their so-so website;

They should realize providing safe sanctuaries for the birds to breed, we are giving a hand to conservation and whats more, its a win-win situation and this is exactly what sustainable consumption means. Those awards, notice the years? ages ago... maybe those dinosaurs have to update their knowledge before commenting on things they non nuts about. think i'll write to them (thats the only thing i can do anyway).

Yeah, thats the spirit, gogogo Organic! I do composting, bokashi. I do some gardening and once in a while organize organic home gardening workshops (fortunately a member is a horticulturist). Its true that if every household does a little organic kitchen garden, it'll help ease the cost a bit. The problem is, consistency and maintenance. First few months after the workshop... ok... after that... lazy. >.<

My dear friends, side track a bit. This is something worth our deep thought and to confirm the theory that there are black sheep in every organization and race. Who said racists and idiots only exist in UMNO? There are even worse racists and idiots in PAS too. In this case, it is rather unfortunate for the Kedah rakyat that these racists and idiots are the top leaders. Go to the following links to read the true scenario of present Kedah situation……..This is what will happen when you put the wrong man in the position…….In this case of Kedah, putting some one with the calibre of an office boy to be CEO of a big public listed company……..UMNO is infamous for that……..and now, PAS also follows suit……….. How unfortunate for the Malaysians…….Real sad........

Below, are some readers that PM to me and may like to share and maybe some Sifus may wish to help others in the education and training in the field of successful swiftlets sanctuaries (SSS).

Hi Mr WW,

If I apply ammonia to my new BH, do I still need to apply bird shits?

If the temperature and humidity are within the range for swiftlet likes but the brightness is more than 2 lux, do you think it is all right?

Appreciate if you could reply. Thanks
I did ask someone selling the BS in Klang and this guy did mentioned the BS are not fresh but doesn't matter, just add in water will do. How you think about this? Personally, I do not know any BH owner, where to buy those fresh BS???

Accidentally, I came to know an old BH owner who advised me not to have open roof as entrance. He said this type of entrance hardly success. Do you what he said is true? END

Dear Friend,

Here are what I think are my beliefs and findings abut maybe others do have their own opinions to share.

1. Old and fresh birdshits are different and just look at any animal shits and you will tell the differences between fresh and old shits....even if you add water to it and you are smart enough to understand that old shits don't really smell no matter how you add water or leave them for a week or two. They will smell but the smell are different and even different places shits are different in smell as the food taken are different; your doctor will tell you so.
BS is the very basic that you apply to your BH.
Darkness has essential to BH's success.

2. Where to buy....easily and cheaply as most of the old successful BHs do have alot of work removing the shits and if you do help them in clearing the shits, they gladly give you for free or maybe just a small token.

3. I do not like to criticize or comments on your friend's comments (Old BH owner) but let me tell you that so many BHs that I advice to use the open roof types ( not that others methods are not as good but create unwanted problems to the neighbors), all are successful and one of them now having more than 9,000 nests in the BH, just 22 X 70X 4 storey in the town. Others are having over 1,000 nest over a period of 3 years. In the Desa, use designs to suit the area and maybe, the Dog kernel type maybe better as the wind, sun, rain and predators and many other factors to be considered. I don't own one in the Desa but have help friends to improve their BHs out of the town.

Apology if my personal comments hurts your friend's feeling but I never lied to please anyone.

If you are going to take out EBN and you think that the Exit Tax is the only one and is a big problem....wait till you try to go in to the buz of exporting EBNs, then you know what problems is real problems......Export Tax seem small compare what you are going to face.

Only the exit taxes????? that's if you are taking out less than a Kilo and for one time only or otherwise, much much more problems than that for I did try to export and you never expect what you get yourself into. Till today, I still can't find a solution to all the problems without effecting and adding problems to the BH owners.

Problems that I can't even discuss it here with you as it might bring alot of difficulties to all BH owners or EBN suppliers.

Added on August 12, 2009, 6:16 pmThis forum seen to be getting cold and I am out of topic to discuss and hopefully we hear or get good news, bad news or any new idea or technology for the swiftlets industry from our friends around here to share.

Let me borrow a topic from our friendly Eng. Lee' blog. Is size really matter???and if we are talking about BH. below is what I think and I am really just talking thru my mouth only.

Size do matter if the BH is really too small but then height matter more. Too small will be too conjested and difficult to renovate into successful BH but too big, will be wasteful and a football field size BH, do you think that you can filled the BH in your lifetime.

And more than that, how to control all the factors of the BH.....just like my friend's 5 shoplots BH and after 2 unsuccessful years and with nly 5 nests, we want up to give our recommendations on the BH, other than the sound and others, the other problem is too openness of the neasting area.

Unless you are going to show off or that you are going for the record, do not go for too big a BH. If a 40 by 80 and all filled up, just calculate how much you will be getting and for me, that already too big a BH..........better build 2 or 3 at different area and maximize you chances and double your birds increment.....

Some friends reading may want to give their opinions or suggestions on the topic from Engineer Lee"s Blog and hope he don't mind.

After Ultrasonic Humidifier, Ultrasonic Nest Cleaner will be the next, correct me if I am wrong and I think when the product is ready to launch, it will create revolution in a bird nest processing industry. rclxms.gif rclxms.gif
