Wanna ask how to confirm originality of a PS2 controller.

4 months ago, I went to a game shop with an intention to buy an original PS2 controller. Ask the seller in the game shop that I want an original PS2 controller. He then ask me again if I'm sure I want the original controller and after I say yes he then call some people to bring the controller from somewhere. I ask him why he did that because I saw one on the shelf and he told me that not original. Then, someone came with the controller and the seller gave the controller to me. The packaging is very doubtful making me ask him if that really an original PS2 controller. He said it is original but OEM thus the packaging. He then show me the comparison between the fake on the shelf and the original one. He said the button is softer (and it is) and Right/Left analog when you press it making a crisper/softer click (and it is) rather than a loud clack made by the fake. I ask him why its cheaper from normal retail I saw at a game shop in the mall nearby and he said because its an OEM and got no warranty (the price is RM59, whereas normal retail RM99). Upon seeing the proof and explanation from the seller I'm convinced and bought it.

Now, when I tried to sell it here at Garage Sales someone ask me whether its original or not because the packaging is very doubtful just like I experienced before I bought this controller. Even after the explanation he doesn't seem to convince even he interested to buy it thus he making me ask if there are some people here can explain how to check the originality of the controller. Gee, still waiting for an answer or an opinion perhaps or at least can anyone tell my controller is original or not. Or did I post in the wrong thread?

Though the details on the plug are certainly authentic. Take the back/rear pics of the controller just to be certain

lol, which one is true? Btw, this controller is heavier and the button is softer than the normal chinese brand I brought quite sometime ago.

If not mistaken, you need to look at the line on the side of the analog sticks. If it is horizontal, is fake. If it is verticle, is original. Anyone care to correct me since my memory is failing me.

sony packaging has always been high quality... big diff btw ur box n the above pic

look at the connector pins
if it has all 9 pins, most likely it's a cheap fake

Ori only has 6 pins, but so does the AAA grade fakes.

if in not mistaken the ori joystick has a bit of glitter on the black plastic material or maybe i am wrong.

i went to a shop, and ask abit.. ur controller... is definitely fake..

Mine has 8 pins. Oh god, its definitely a fake, doesn't it? Damn.

Care to explain a bit? Probably it will be a lesson for me next time I want to buy an original controller.

1. the one undeniable fact is that it's heavier than an original controller.

3. Buttons are harder to press than normal.

4. RM 59 is expensive. Melaka here, the same thing is selling for RM39.90. Original is slightly over RM60.



if u still dun believe. please take and put ur controller on a weight scale. weigh it. (with the cable)

the rest here can also do the same and compare the weight. if urs is heavier, than it's fake.

I didn't have an original controller to compare with but I must admit mine is a total FAKE ! And me being cheat completely. Double damn!

By the way, thanks for the explanation. Definitely it gonna help if I were to buy one again. But I highly doubt it because might as well go for X360 controller instead next time
