My quick comparison:
1. TP 2 has no flash
2. Has bigger battery capacity
3. Will use WM6.5
4. Has touch zoom bar

my biggest concern would be the touch screen itself, though it's very very sweet to have 3.6 in size.. (iphone only 3.4)

but how's the sensitivity now? as compared to iphone or HTC HD

imho....TP2 it's not a significant improvement device over the current TP....i'll pass this too

for new HTC user, i would advise go for Diamond2 if qwerty keyboard is not a factor tongue.gif

but the above spec only mentioned WM6.1 leh...

anyway, another difference is it's sliiiiiiiightly thinner than the Touch Pro....but it's longer & wider.

looks good tho... drool.gif

just my opinion tho;

1. Diamond 2 still maintain the 'diamond' form factor which look better than opal shape TP2
2. Diamond 2 upgraded the camera res from 3.2mp to 5mp [ no big deal but it's still an upgrade tho... ]
3. Diamond 2 keypad area is more roomy and should be more comfortable to use compare to TP2
4. Diamond 2 has a better battery life compare to TP2 [ standby and talk time ]
5. Diamond 2 has everything that TP2 had - only minus the tilt qwerty keyboard and slightly larger screen

Chipset is different,
TP: Qualcomm® MSM7201A™ 528 MHz
TP2: Qualcomm® MSM7200A™ 528 MHz

MSM7201A is 65nm
MSM7200A is 90nm

But not too sure any performance impact, any idea?

if price predict will drop within a month, it worth to wait doh. Normally how long Malaysia SIS will start selling new model after HTC launch it at oversea? For ex. HTC Touch HD.

Thx in advance for the advice thumbup.gif

Wait until the next OS upgrade. By that time we'll have devices with better hardware or just flash custom Win 6.5 mobile Rom if you want something different on your PPC. Current new devices do not offer much in terms of hardware improvements, just cosmetic changes.

Pretty same as the price of TP1 when it just came out, but on second thought I think TD2 would be better than TP2, because the QWERTY doesn't really help me to type faster and I hate phone with moving parts because they are more subjected to wear and tear.

Btw, how would it look if you try to run a VGA on this phone? we will see black bars on top and bottom? Or it stretches?

Pretty same as the price of TP1 when it just came out, but on second thought I think TD2 would be better than TP2, because the QWERTY doesn't really help me to type faster and I hate phone with moving parts because they are more subjected to wear and tear.

Btw, how would it look if you try to run a VGA on this phone? we will see black bars on top and bottom? Or it stretches?

u have to use the switcher program I believe some u will see some of touch flo some u see a blank space unsure.gif

My experience with Toshiba G900, the black/white border appear at the bottom for incompatible program. This include in certain games and TCPMP/betaplayer movie player. However some program not run at all doh.gif

TP2 can upgrade to WM6.5?
but i heard that in WMC2009, Microsoft said it does not support all current model, means all WM6.1 won't get any ugrade.
However comment for WM6.5 still very bad.
It was just upgraded the outlook, but no much functional improvement.

Even no have finger keybpard like my OMNIA
Window Mobile Player still no have new version.
Those WM6.5 theme i think u can easily get it by SPb SHell or others third party software. right?

So still wait for WM7 if they really can get the function of mylti point touch. Like iphone. lol

Whether the device is upgradeable to newer OS anot depends on your manufacturer, because I believe they have to pay for the license to provide you with newer versions.

Apart from that, they have to incur R&D cost to program the OS.

And since WM7 is based on a newer OS 6.0 kernel as well as features some 'hardware' feature such as multi touch, that means devices have to comply to WM7 requirement to have those feature to be certified a WM device.

Hence, slim chance that existing device will get WM7 upgrade. But on a separate note, only 'capacitive' screen supports multi touch right?

i just start using WinMo 2 years ago.... and i started with HTC....
After using HTC for a while now.....
Starting from HTC Touch (decommissioned), HTC Touch Dual (as work phone) now Touch Pro (as personal phone)

You can say i'm a HTC addict....
I like the touch dual caused it's slim.... and Touch Pro, lots of connection options....

I might get HTC diamond 2 to replace my 2 years old Touch Dual
and the HTC Touch Pro 2 to replace my 1.25 years old Touch Pro.....

I'm going to burn another RM6k for those new ones......
ah... is yet another time to save up.....

Added on May 20, 2009, 10:00 pmBTW, i hope people at M$ will create WinMo6.5 for my Touch Pro

Added on May 20, 2009, 10:01 pmi dun have so much money to burn just to get WinMo 6.5

you'll possibly also need a SIRIM permit and taxable about 10% as long as it's a form of handphone; unless it's declared as 'computer'!.. there's a good lengthy discussion on importing items from overseas in this link:

http://forum.lowyat.net/TradeZoneResourceCentre

and where specifics on hp import procedure discussed : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/433543/+100

clove is a good place to order from by the way. cheers!

I was walking around in Pavilion today and went inside Celcom BlueCube.

Saw that they're accepting bookings for the Touch Pro2, and selling for RM 2,379!

Not sure what other strings are attached!

On a side note, they're selling the HTC Magic aka Google G1 for RM 1,999 too!

Not bad a deal for a set with local warranty I reckon. Again, not sure if there are any strings attached.

The screen protector is already included in the box. Additional purchase for the screen protector is not out yet. Have to wait at least 1 week.

A normal car holder can hold the TP2 but it should be placed correctly against the dashboard instead of "hanging in the air". This might cause it to wobble while driving.

msm7200a is superior than the 7201a

7201a is use in US only due to patent right

Just did some survey at LYP and played with it, one word - awesome

SIS is bundling a free Selphy printer for all TP2.

They are priced from 3099-3199 - with printer, TV out and 4GB

PDA Expert - 3199 - fixed despite me saying competitor offering 3099
Tarita Mobility - 3099 - nego
The gadget shop - 3099 - nego

The Touch Flo 3D2 interface is so smooth and fast, keyboard is so easy to type compared to TP and Xperia

its your imagination,

since TP, Xperia and Tp2 have exactly the same specs. However its possible the TP and XPeria u used are using old roms, and do not have the drivers. and i doubt TP2 will have the drivers in the stock rom as well, as far as i know its exactly the same

For your proper drivers for Tp, Xperia and TP2, google XDA Gfxboost, and XDA OpenVGDrivers

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread...656#post2868656
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=509704

the large screen is nice, but IMHO i hated the keyboard. its severely crippled, sorta like Xperia's in a way. its not a complete keyboard. look up images on Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2's keyboard and u'll spot the difference. IMHO there is no excuse to omit such important keys, since its wide screen and has more space for the keyboard as well.

for new WM users (with the cash to burn), its probably a good buy. but i wouldnt at all recommend current TP and Xperia users to upgrade to this. There's just nothing really new and improved

i second that.. the TF3D was fast until u load up ur device with apps, hundreds of sms'es etc.. then it becomes slow like it used to be biggrin.gif we need xda's ROMs to push our device to its limit..

Well, not sure if the different processor yields a different result. I only gave my POV after playing with your TP and my brother's Diamond.

Whether the keyboard is crippled a not, I find that I could type much faster on TP2, and to me, that alone is good enough already. After all a man's meat is another man's poison.

The large screen is definitely a good complement to the WVGA resolution. I feel that TP screen is too small for a VGA resolution, it's very fine and sharp no doubt, but a bigger screen would be a better complement.

not a review, but a comment from 4 hrs of usage...

TF3D2 looks good... smooth but lag sometimes especially after suspend

speaker phone is loud suitable to use as walkman

camera is not okay, no LED makes taking picture a challenge indoor

pouch not good; very cumbersome to take out the phone; you may miss a call because of this

everthing else have to wait till tommorow... but generally the big screen size is good; but not much different than my previous atom exec

got my tp2 last week or so, after my 838pro's screen became flower-like. not bad giving a free printer though. the interface is very nice..sometimes lags a little though. flipping pics and rolling contacts using just one finger are great. but too bad they didnt put a dial for it.

anyway, i heard that it would automatically switch to landscape mode when the phone is placed horizontally. it doesnt seem to work. any idea?

For those who always want the latest rom , there is a release of such in the newer units : version 1.19.707.2 can be downloaded at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537248
The rom version on my unit before was 1.19.707.1
The whole process takes about 15+ minutes - just connect your PDA to your PC and run the "exe" file. This is a official htc asian rom so you need not perform any "hard SPL or uspl" first

Hi Guys,
want to ask if you got the same problem with me, when I make a video call, I saw myself in a very greenish backgroud. It's quite dark and sometimes I barely can see myself. Even the person from other side could not see me. Maybe my secondary camera got problem or these is common for TP2?

I am currently using TP2. From the experience on the TP (My previous PDA) I would ssays the 3.6" screen make a lots of different. As for the system it shell is much stable as compare to TP. I have no regret to sold the TP cheap to trade the TP2. I currently selfdom bring my Laptop to work.... cos, my TP2 can do most of it.

ermm what do you mean by data connection? is it something wrong with data connection that causes my device failed to register on network?

HTC just released the official version 1.19.707.2 about 2 days ago - here is the link:

The new official ROM for Pro2 is out on HTC's website

if you think you can trade in your touch pro at a decent price then why not? but do always put your finance at the first place. Only go for it, when you have a really good strong finance base coz this device cost quite a bomb..

overall touch pro 2 is good, but u will realize TP2 is more power demanding as the processor speed is at 50%~ 52% compare to TP which is around 36%or so, if i am not mistaken. (the processor speed is refer to "after soft reset")

functionality wise, i think they are the same except for the straight talk function, but do take notes, TP2 front lens camera tend to behave abnormal, when is at dark area, the greenish stuff will appear. Another thing is music player will automatically off once u put ur device to sleep, not sure this is a bug though.

thats all from me.

pcboy: I have previously used the TP - these are the main advantages of the TP2 over TP:

1. Performance - very much responsive ; on my previous TP I change the ROM to various type , the last one being on Romeos to beef up performance ( this will void warranty with ROM change), HOw much - I guessestimate at least 50-100 % faster depend on program usage
2. Keyboard - TP2 well spaced and staggered, good tactile feel ; TP cramped and poor tactile feel
3. TP2 - zoom slider ( not available in TP) very good feature when browsing
4. Screen size : 3.6" vs 2.8"
5. Phone call functions esp on conference calls

Overall I considered it a worthwhile upgrade; if cost is a factor get a AP set which retails around RM2.6 K now with 15 months warranty

How can performance increase if the processor is the same? Have you compared the latest cook ROM of TP with TP2?

the proc speed are same but the model are not.. i've played around with friend's TD2 which using same proc with TP2, and the speed and performance are incredible outstanding.. shocking.gif even TP cooked ROMs can't beat it.. like benny, i've tried few ROMs i.e Energy, Shep, etc.. i wonder what will happen when flashing modded/hacked custom ROM on TP2.. rclxms.gif

Thanks benny, hujan etc for your kind reviews and supports.. but items below make me little bit bitter (or sour) to convert TP -> TP2

- Same proc speed (i wish TP2 was using 800mhz ++) .. LOL
- same ram/rom
- less hardbutton (i guess) i'm a light pda gamer..
- less touch panel (TP has lots of touch panel i.e. Home/back/call/end call) which can be fully utilized using "GScroll" app
- TP2 1500mah battery is insufficient (i guess)... for a heavy internet user like me (email, YM, facebook, mp3 download, etc)
- the 'conference call' function on TP2 is not really useful to me as i'm not a corporate guy
- still no audio jack sad.gif

but i think i can just ignore those and get a TP2 ... tongue.gif ... and yes benny, i'm also considering the AP set.. i will start to be slumdog and collect money around town to fund for my TP2.. LOL .. thanks guyz!! love ya for the supports! notworthy.gif
