nothing really truly new.

Added on February 16, 2009, 10:29 pmbut seriously, if i'm gonna get this, i think most probably i might as well jump to iphone 3G.......but its tempting to give it a shot lol. my gf would kill me though. nvm, happy with touch pro, will wait for next year's Wm 7

I prefer there are buttons for answer or reject call, no need depend on the screen so much. May be it will save some battery life too thumbup.gif

From the slim design, doesnt seem to have a slide out qwerty. D2Pro was suppose to be the one with keyboard.

Its better with VGA than WVGA, the low button construct is very familiar with iMate PDA.

The pda phone market has a vicious cycle of introducing new products while we haven't actually enjoyed or really familiarized with our current purchase.

Why are there regrets? Have you really explored your phone or used all its features that deem it inferior to the new TD2 for example? Just because those are new phones doesn't mean that your current purchase has lost its appeal? I guess we are the guilty ones who are actually perpetrating these kind of lopsided view that new is always better. If that is the case, we'll always be salivating with every new device that is introduced and not satisfied and always be unhappy.

Like the saying goes, it is more of evolutionary rather than revolutionary.

shaun, simple fact is, windows mobile can perform more stuff than symbians. symbians is a relatively simple platform in comparison, while it does have advantages in simplicity itself. if you're talking about basic functions, play music, watch videos, take picture, sure, any phone now adays can do that. but then when u start talking about more intricate detail like customising, overclocking, creating new roms, basically what u can do with a PC, u can do in windows mobile

i agree symbian can flash firmware and everything, but well, its a long list and hard to explain. And i'm lazy. Since there were already threads comparing symbian and windows mobile long ago. And really its two different thing. U have to try both to compare. and yes i've used symbian before. it all comes down preference. which do u think is better. some people like symbian which is why u can find a large list of symbian users in handphone section and a large list of windows mobile users in this PDA section.

If u REALLY wanna find out more about it yourself, googling will find several interesting articles. But u are currently in the wrong thread, and this has nothing to do with the discussion.

Wait until the next OS upgrade. By that time we'll have devices with better hardware or just flash custom Win 6.5 mobile Rom if you want something different on your PPC. Current new devices do not offer much in terms of hardware improvements, just cosmetic changes.

totally agree with u. most PDAs have rather up to date specs. If u want real improvement, flash a new rom when its out. wait for 6.5 for example. current TD and HD and TP users already have the top of the line specs already. TP 2 and TD 2 are marketting gimmicks, slightly different only. not worth upgrading to if you bought your phone just last year

3k + is over price ler... i think should range around 2.5k

and according to WMpoweruser.com

HTC’s Touch Diamond II is not the most exciting new device in the world. In fact a new Windows Mobile 6.5 device by Gigabyte, the GSmart S1204 may very well have it beat.

The GSmartS1204 is only 107 x 53 x 12.1 mm, it has a 528 MHz Qualcomm 7200A CPU, 3.1" WVGA screen, HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, accelerometer and also TV-out, all powered by a respectable 1250 mAh battery.

One thing I don't understand with these WVGA PDAs with their fast procs. Stock battery like blink.gif . They just don't want us to fully utilize the PDA izzit? lol

I pity you.

Anyway, Touch Diamond 2 has haptic/"Feedback" keyboards. Tons of TouchFlo3D "1.5" screenshots leaked.

http://ai.rs/2009/02/htc-touch-diamond-2-screenshots/

Looks like HTC is getting smarter and smarter in using proper screen estate, I swear they crammed in stuff that even the Touch HD didn't have.

If this launches at ~RM2.5k and the Pre at 3k+ (which I admit, takes some heck of a vivid imagination), I'd grab this. I like the look 6.5 enough to use it daily.

What's scary would be that the Pre being cheaper, and in that case the Diamond2 has well, no case as they say.

Does this one comes with AGPS? And is AGPS practical in Malaysia, are those maps software updated to work with AGPS ?

As for those Symbian fanboys, you might want to read this to see what my WM smartphone, not PDA could do

Agree, Symbian and Window Mobile no have point to compare.because SYmbian was a very simple OS,
DO u heard anyone Flash the ROM for Symbian?
Window Mobile can do A lot of stuff, You never try it you never know it.
I am previous SYmbian user also.haha

For those WM tweakers, almost EVERY single little things on your device can be tweaked via registry, like ringtone interval, you can set any interval you like, 1.5 seconds if you wish, 1.323 seconds if that pleases you, and so on

Added on March 9, 2009, 12:49 amNowadays, the PDA doesn't look 'professional' anymore as those days, where there will be a jog dial on the left hand side, and they have those 'classic' look.

I wonder if there will be a 'return' of the TyTN, perhaps TyTn III

Added on March 9, 2009, 1:05 amBtw, the phone battery seems quite weak 1100 only, what do you guys say?

Hey guys. I will definitely go for this phone. As 1 of the forumer above gave the site mention that the price is slightly lower than TD I. It' should be around 2.5k-2.7k.

Guys... Now, SiS is selling RM3399 for Touch HD and RM2288 for Diamond.
Based on HTC history... once this thing TD2 announced, how much you think THD and TD will drop in price?

If i'm not mistaken when HTC TP was released, the price of HTC TytnII nvr drop that much.. Only about til 2.5k. That was at the moment TP was released la. Now (after about half a year) the price should be slightly lower than that. (RM2050 only)

Firestone looks like a HTC Touch HD2. Should be way more expansive than Diamond2. For me, i would just wait a little longer til WM7 comes out next year.

im planning to purchase a touch diamond, the 1st version right now. still contemplating cos i dont knw when this one is coming out. im sure the first one pricing will decrease tremendously as they attempt to clear stock.
so im still undecisive on whether or not to wait till this one comes.

Don't believe in prices which are converted from USD etc. You haven't + the custom tax in our country yet.

price should be around 2.8 > because overseas sets are selling for around 2.8k

Its marketing strategy dude. Everyone's having the iPhone "fever". They are just trying to grab the market's attention off the iPhone and onto their products.

That is why s60 v5 has a touch interface capability.

The ones on sale in the Garage Sales are all AP sets, warranty by PDA Gadgets Distribution Sdn Bhd (anyone know about them?). For me, if I were to buy a phone that costs more than $2.5k, I'd rather by a SiS one for peace of mind. Anyone else heard about the 28th April launch?

I spoke to an SiS sales personnel today. According to her the launch today is strictly for media only. The phone itself would not be available until mid to end of May. Apparently they're still waiting for the stock to arrive, although they acknowledge that AP sets have already surfaced in the Malaysian market since the latest PC Fair.

No mention of price but expect it to hover around the $2,700 price range.

I'm also hoping that my K800 can tahan that long too... its keeps giving me No Network lately.

oh well.. i already got my diamond 2, 2 weeks ago. Paid around RM2800++.
Its AP. The SIS set wont be out till 2nd quarter of the year. There is no difference in terms of warranty.. actually i think i got 15 months warranty from the AP supplier. Plus i get to do wonderful things like Hard SPL, update of cooked ROMS, etc without voiding my warranty.

By the way, it doesnt come with WM 6.5.

I was tempted to get from the same AP supplier. 15 months warranty is a good deal but when I saw the warranty card and the hotline number was a handphone number, I decided against it.

Well the shop that i normally buy my stuff from is trusted. Ive been buying from him for a few years now. And i changed phones once every 5 - 6 months. He's a decent guy that keeps to his word. That having said, at the end of the day, even if the warranty doesnt work out, but the shop that i buy from will honor it because im a regular.

Added on April 30, 2009, 4:00 pmIf anyone wants to know anything about the TD2, feel free to ask. I'll do my best to answer your questions.

I think many are wondering how good or bad is the battery life. Well ive been using it for about 2 weeks now. And i can say that the battery is pretty decent. Im an average user with around 10-20 calls a day, 40-50 sms, wifi for around 10 mins a day and bluetooth for my headset. Fully charged at 3am and by 24 hours, im left with around 40%.

Bearing in mind the battery for the TD2 is 1100mah. While the first Diamond was 900mah. The difference in terms of mah isnt much, but the performance is almost as good as the SE Xperia (1500mah)

The reason why AP phones were higher priced is cos they wanted to catch stupid fellas like me to buy it. hahahha.. oh well.. i guess they caught me already.

The camera is quite good. Its better than i expected.. (for a phone) Only problem is that it doesnt have a flash, but the white balancing is not too bad to compensate that flaw.. but u can forget it if ur taking photos at night thought. Also it doesnt have macro shot features.

as usual of qualcomm based GPS units, BOTH.

A-GPS to get quick lock, and a real GPS, so yes, mapping programs no problem.

Here's what I got for $2599 at the HTC Shop (located outside the main entrance to LYP):

Phone and basic package (includes screen protector and pouch)
4GB Memory card
Sonic Gear USB Speaker
2 years warranty from SiS
Some small HTC gifts (pen and phone dangle)

Definitely a good package. And definitely a good phone. I'm glad I waited.

speaker is nothing to write home about, it's a USB powered (no battery slot so non portable) speaker but... because it's mean to connect the Diamond 2 to it... there's a 'free' HTC USB jack to stereo plug converter in the box.

Added on May 7, 2009, 1:00 amOh... HTC did a PRETTY GOOD job on polishing up the WM UI... definetly much more finger friendly and can serve as a stop gap before 6.5 officially reaches us.

Added on May 7, 2009, 1:11 amok.. this is interesting. I was asking myself how dare they just label a simple speaker as worth RM138... it's just a speaker, it doesn't do anything special.

Until I plugged it into the computer's USB port to power it... then Windows told me it found a new sound card....

Yup... it's not just a speaker, it's one of those chapalang USB audio devices as well so that justiies the price..

The way it works is incredibly stupid if you're unfamilar with how Windows deals with multiple audio devices, you plug it into the USB port and it immediately becomes the primary audio device, then you plug the audio out of the D2 into it and your D2 sounds output from the speaker.

But YOUR WINDOWS IS NOW MUTE cause it's primary output device is the USB sound card that was plugged in....

Added on May 7, 2009, 1:14 amOpera 9 now seems to have it's plugin support initiated since pages that use Flash have a rectangle surrounding it that says 'plugin content'

But.... after distributing Adobe Flash Lite in numerous phones without a reason to use it.

HTC didn't inlcude Flash in the D2..... youtube app all still there and usable but the Flash plugin which should theoratically allow us to play content in the browser?

nope.. not there anymore...

Added on May 7, 2009, 9:32 amyou have to wonder how for every GOOD thing HTC does to their phones they screw up something else.

For new owners of the Touch Diamond 2, if you go into the Settings tab on the touch flo screen, then select Sound. One of the on off switches there will say Event Sounds. At first I was thinking this just meant all the dings, and dongs of the various exclamation boxes the OS has.

Guess what? It includes at the very least.. the Incoming SMS sound, turning the Events Sounds off UNCHECKS the Play Sound option for the incoming SMS.

Nice to see that somethings don't change and HTC still makes small but mindboggling settings.

Added on May 7, 2009, 9:50 amOk, here are the highlights of the D2 after one night of playing with it.

- If you're thinking of getting a Diamond, there's no reason not to get a Diamond 2 instead unless you really really need the D-Pad
- HTC has done A LOT of work in hiding the blandness of the WM UI and make it look more oomph like a modern phone.
- Chinese support is built in! Don't know if this is new or other HTC phones already had it.
- They *might* have fixed the display driver, Garmin redraws a tad bit faster even though the CPU is the same speed as original diamond and there're more pixels to draw.
- Can turn off AUTO ROTATE!!! Woohooo!
- Cursor keys in Soft Keyboard to minimize impact of lost of D-Pad
- It's lighter than D1

Stupid things I've spotted so far
- Do NOT toggle the EVENT SOUNDS switch in the Touch Flo's Setting's Sound's app, that TURNS OFF ALL SOUNDS for notifications such as... New SMS! And turning it back on DOESN'T renable ALL the sounds!
- Opera 9 now displays Flash content as "Plug In Content" instead of the blank square but.... HTC DIDN'T include Flash Lite in the phone... for the first time when it seems we might actually be able to USE it. HTC DIDN'T include Flash. That's bloody ironic!
- Cannot poke reset button without removing back cover, In D1 we could still just reach in from the side to press it.
- HTC REMOVED ACCESS to original Start Menu/Programs View, which means we only have the Programs Shortcut tab, and the All Programs list (if you're familiar with Touch Flo's program app) to find programs to run. VERY ANNOYING!

Don;'t ask about battery life yet since I just got it yesterday.

Anyway, on GSM unless your signal is terrible like one block or no block the conversation is usable. It's on 3G that's when poor reception affects call quality.

And since I'm never on 3G for calls it doesn't effect me that much tongue.gif

better to give something practical like a decent pouch, or car charger. bad move, SIS!

sigh.. HTC always invent a must-tweak-pda devices.. since dopod 838pro until Touch Pro all devices must use cooked rom or at least must do some tweaking to make the performane at it best

am thinking of getting the D2, only concern is the poor reception. i mean i am paying top dollar for this phone, i should get equivalent quality. the main reason for buying a phone is to make calls, surfing the net, listening to music, etc are all secondary. if it cant perform the main task properly, whats the point?

i hope at least they release a software update to correct it. the previous touch diamond i got for my dad sucked, reception was poor, volume was so faint....sold it off after a few weeks.

Help!!!...Just got my TD2 yday.
Got home and charged it. After 1 hour of charging, the charging indicator turns green. Played with it a lil, batt went down to 70%. Then thought of recharging it, but after leaving it to be charged for whole nite, the batt did not charge till full bar - still remain at 70%(although it stated there as recharging).

Do you think this is a sign that my batt hv prob?  cry.gif

sounds like battery problem. but within first 7 days, i think SiS has a one-to-one exchange policy if due to hardware problems. (as told by me by the sales guy). so, advise you to check with the shop.

Installation Instructions:

ROM version: 1.40.707.1

Radio version: 3.44.25.27

Improved Functions

* Radio upgrade.
those having problems with reception may give this a try.

btw, since i'm a winmo newbie. can someone advise me, what is the normal procedure for flashing roms?

will all my programs and settings be erased?

Thanks guys.
After i reset it, batt went up to 90%.
Well, maybe i'll use it till the batt goes as low as in 30-40%, then recharge it again. If this time it still cant get fully charged, would send back to the shop by this weekend...
Wish me luck.... After spending a bomb on it, dun hope it turns out to be a faulty item blink.gif

initial comments at xda seemed quite favourable. some guy mentioned that previously he is able to get only 3 radio stations, now he gets 11. biggrin.gif

but since i'm new to these stuff, i'll wait a few more days before trying. besides i dont have any major complaints so far (either that or coz i dunno where to look...lol)

i think you must have the setting/detail first before it will show on the People tab. try set the email address for the contact and see if it appears?

Pouch and extra stylus come with the box. Car charger, car holder and USB Speaker are freebies.
They so called GIVING the 4G memory card as freebie, but infact they charge u RM30. While the phone price is RM2569.
I bought mine in PDA Expert, MV. Good service. Preinstalled all the software for me too. Lifetime software support.
Can pay RM2599 by cash/credit card... no extra charge. But if u opt for EPP, then have 3% additional charges.

yea the fingger print... but what i do just keep the phone in the pouch.... the in out of phone in pouch somehow clean and minimize the finggerprint....

what anoy me is the touch screen goes black when not in use for a few second. and have to on back by pressing ON button at the top, do you guys know any other way to wake up the phone ither than pressing the top button, afraid if will spoil if keep on pressing it...same goes to lock the phone..... have to press the hang up button for a few second than be able to lock the phone.... afaid if the button goes kaput

yea there are giving me choice to take 8 gig with 1 year warranty or 4 gig with 2 years warranty, so i opted for 2 years warranty as i dont need so much memory space....

yea the people tab depend on what info does you put in the adreess book... if u put email and others info , than u will have all the tab available, if not just call and sms only.

so far my set have not been off when boughht and the internet connection are great, not hang .using digi edge...

For those who don't like the stock battery cover due to its fingerprint prone nature, there's always the matt battery cover: http://www.slashphone.com/alternate-htc-to...ck-cover-285598
