I've never owned a Sony Ericsson phone before. Previous phones were Nokias or Samsungs. Currently using Nokia N82.
This is the 1st SE phone that I felt I really must have - 8 MP Walkman with sleek design!
The gsmarena review also seems positive!

But I bet when it's finally released, it'll be around the RM 2800 - RM 3200.
It'll be worth it though... no need to upgrade my phone for years...

Come to think of it, yeah I think RM 3000 is too high as there's no touch-screen...
If it's really around RM 2000 I have no complaints!

- Wi-Fi
- 8.1 MP camera
- 3.5 mm jack

So far I think no 8.1 MP camera phone launched under RM 2000

c905 also has 8.1 MP... I think first SE phone with 8.1 MP

Nobody knows for sure. The launch date could be as early as May or as late as July. The review at gsmarena is already out though, so hopefully the latest would be June.

You mean currently? Which AP stores have it now?

I'm sure original set will appear sooner or later. This phone will have high demand.

Hi guys, I just bought my W995 a few hours ago. I got it for RM1800 at Gardens, MidValley.

Reason I bought it was because my N82 has started showing ugly dead pixels and the camera shutter switch is broken. Need a backup phone while I send it for repair.

If going to buy a backup phone, might as well buy a good one that has aga aga the same features.

These are my impressions so far:

Good
- Easy to use. This is my first Sony Ericsson phone, and I think the GUI is much more intuitive than my N82 Symbian one.
- Solid build. Small and compact. The slider feels smooth and not cheap. My N82 was a finger-print magnet. But the material used for the W995 surface makes finger prints less obvious. The phone buttons easy to press, not like my N82.
- Camera is good at taking landscape pictures.
- Speaker and connectivity is decent. Nothing special though.

Bad
- The 8MP camera doesn't seem as good as my N82 5MP camera. I can't seem to make the W995 camera take close-up objects properly. There's always motion-blur or something. Maybe because it was using poor lighting or I haven't learned to use it properly yet. (Edit: blur issue solved - see my next post in this thread) Also the flash isn't as nice as the N82 Xenon flash.

But overall I like my W995 very much.

Okay, I've updated from version R1FA035 to R1GA026. It took awhile though. I installed the Update Service program from the SE website. It had to download about 100mb of data to install into the phone.

I think I've figured out why my close up pictures look blur. It's my technique.

I've been using the W995 the way I use my N82. When taking a picture, I hold the button slightly until the square focuses, wait a moment, then I press all the way. For some reason this makes my pictures look blurry.

Now I just press the camera button all the way instantly, and my pictures (both wide and close-up) are a lot sharper.

The camera still focuses for a second when I press all the button all the way down.

But I think for my case if I focus for too long, any slight movements of the camera caused by my hands will affect the image quality.

I tested again... if I keep really really still, then even if I focus for a long time the picture still looks okay.

How about other W995 users?

Just download the Update Service installer, then run it.

It'll give detailed instructions on what to do next.

Normally bug fixes and improvements. After you install it if should give you instructions on what to do.
For me it download about 100+ mb of data.
Yes it will erase all your phone data, but won't affect your memory card or SIM card.

If you feel like your W995 runs okay, then no need to update. After all if it's not broken, why fix it?

Must not be rough with your phone. I keep my phone in a small little phone pouch.

I don't know if there's warranty for the labels or not. Yours is OP? Maybe can ask or call up the service center.

Anyway I've discovered a little annoying thing about W995. I'm not sure if it's just W995 or all Sony Ericsson phones, but does the message tone has a time limit? I chose a 17-second MP3 for my "Message alert" but whenever I receive a SMS, it only plays about three-quarters of it.

That's unfortunate. Guess I'll have to pick a shorter MP3 then.

Guys I've encountered another issue.
Let's say I go to the Contacts menu and I see a list of all my contacts.
Now I want search for a name, let's say "Andrew Lim".

Using my N82 if I typed "Lim", the contact list would be filtered to include "Andrew Lim".

But it seems that for SE, it will only find "Andrew Lim" if I start with "A" ?
