hey guys. i just got a sf4 collectors edition. its r3.
so to redeem the free costumes must redeem the code in sg account ar?
or us psn id also can?

I don't think there's an R3 CE for SF4, furthermore provisioned with the Brawler's Pack DLC code. Does this come with the Ryu figurine, Blu-ray anime and/or soundtrack? If the box set is not sealed upon purchase then the R1 game may have been slotted with an R3, if purchased from shops. In this case, the code is only good for a US account, worse R2. CE is only available to the R1/R2 versions. Anyway DLCs are region-specific. You can find more help as the SF4 thread has plenty of gurus who can give better advice: http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/968730

I just ate at Outpost today and managed to chat with Alan.

He's got an event at Midvalley Megamall in 2 week's time, the 20th of June, where he'll be conducting a Street Fighter 4 marathon.  Basically, you join in, play until you lose, if you lose you can join in the line again and play until you lose again.  Think arcade setting.

Bring your own sticks if you can. smile.gif

He said the price currently is RM10 I believe.  Once you're in, you're in for the day from what I understand.

I'LL SEE YOU ALL THEN (need to practise no PS3 how how sad.gif)

Thanks, Darkstalker - great news! I am blocking my calendar as we speak!

come lar rawfish give us noobs some room to whine a little pls =P
any tips to get close as bison?
*
I really don't know how to fight against Sagat except baiting and waiting for error windows. He has better attacking options, but not necessarily over-powered. Basic Bison B&B comes to mind - repeated Devil's Reverse to charge meter, it's an area Bison can control effectively. Cross-up MKs to advance in after knockdown? Against expected Tiger Shots mid-screen, try ex-scissors to get through? Or try to pressure with lk-scissors as it's a neutral move if blocked (no frame advantage to either players upon the move's recovery), and how about his teleport and wake-up ex-Pcycho Crusher. The thing about Bison is, he has little options to land his Ultra in a tight game, so he needs to really focus on every bit of damage output, especially chipping. Also, how about playing against your brother without both characters ever jumping? This will condition your mind a bit when facing chars with DPs.

Additional: Oh yeah, he's tall so j.fwd HP at the jump apex (no need meaty) works well (meaning you try to hit his head, not torso) and vs some chars can cross-up as well. Catching him offguard with a fullscreen slide makes me laugh each time too, even on the receiving end biggrin.gif

Here, Alan - feel free to discuss and amend as needed. Just a small tourney rules framework I came up with.

Mad props for the rules rawfish.
*
Thanks - they're not final and are just my suggestions.

Alan, more explanation on my input:

1) Marathon begins when a certain number of people is registered e.g.

10 people = begin on 1 machine
20 people = split on 2 machines
30 people and so on = 3 machines

This is to ensure no early bird crowd gets the advantage, and so others may catch up if interested but came slightly late.

**Referees/judges (minimum THREE) must be present to keep track of score and to avoid any disputes - hope you have enough.

2) As winners stay, I suggest a limitation be placed on their maximum streak. 3 would be reasonable as it would force them to re-queue and keep the average winning score fair + balanced. People may be afraid to face those high-hand and may even start avoiding that machine, or totally discourage them from participating.

You can always decide on a higher number e.g. 5 or more. But I think 3 is fair and I am sure the winner will still be happy to re-queue to be fair to others to catch up.

3) Contestants play on a small stage or platform, to the benefit of:

The MVEC crowd: more people get to see, especially those from far.

The queueing contestants: ropes are needed for both QUEUE and EXIT systems, and must be in a specially pre-allocated section to differentiate from the public area. Maybe a 'snake' queue like GSC Midvalley / TGC KLCC/Pyramid? Since games are played (I presume on a 32" Bravia sgain?) on a raised platform i.e. 2 feet high, it's just like picking out a movie to watch like in a cinema queue. Like this, everyone can watch the games being played

If a person needs to go to toilet, they need to queue again to avoid people from using that to cut queues (have to plan and control their own toilet breaks). Same goes if they decide to go off shopping or lunch or for smokes.

**You may want to get the sponsors to provide mineral water to the contestants. Or someone may want to sell it on that day for profit smile.gif

**You may also want to provide simple stick-it labels at time of registration for contestants to label their equiptment

I'm thinking of parking at Zone B @ Gardens. Max should be RM9 on weekends (I believe). Hey Mike you need what tools?

I'll just load the pack:
Flathead = for balltop removal
Test pen = for QDs removal
Cutting knife = for any artwork cut-outs

HRAP3 needs any Philips screwdriver (x)?

Guys - BRING YOUR OWN STICKS and please take care of your belongings e.g. bring a bag to safekeep it and for convenience. It'll be at Malaysia's first Games and Gadgets 2009 expo which I think is like the E3 and CES in US (Electronic Entertainment Expo, Consumer Electronics Show), plus it's the final weekend of the school hols - could get very packed!

Sony will provide no sticks and there will be a setup for 2 machines. Winner stays, loser re-queues. No knock-outs. RM10 buffet... eat all you can. So it's meant to be a fast event.

Nevertheless there's gonna be players who prefer pad and stick so if a weapon switch is really needed let's make it FAST (e.g. memorize your preferred button settings) so the queue moves faster.

To those loaning sticks, please be mindful to at least take good care of it e.g. not to mash excessively hard (this game, mashing doesn't work out of throws... and if you are dizzy the opponent will already be jumping in / charging focus to combo you). DO take out your watch/ring/accessories as to not cause scratches on the stick/buttons.

I really don't mind loaning to LYN-ers who really do not have sticks at home... I'm just worried about the outsiders smile.gif So for those people I hope a HORI Tekken 4 will do. So remember to bring just in case it's needed.

Alan: off-topic.. if they're gonna show off those big-ass HDTVs / LEDs.. would they like Final Fantasy VII AC? I just got mine in the mail.

Where did you get that idea from? Sony provides the DS3 so you don't have to worry. Those who prefer to play on sticks like me are encouraged to bring it. smile.gif

See you guys there!

The judges did not reveal the accumulated points for each player so far, in order to keep everyone in suspense and/or ensure everyone plays their best the next day.

The marathon format is definitely interesting - as long a player perseveres, even after a lost he can still catch up. This is a different take to getting sent to the losers' bracket. I've personally been sent to the back of the queue countless times without a single win smile.gif.

The decision-makers were not able to provision requested queue stands, tables and arcade sticks, at last minute. This is out of the organizers' control. As SF4 is meant to be played on a stick, others loaned their sticks. All were arcade-quality, with full Sanwa parts.

I was hoping both arcade sticks and pads are to be used but it's been decided sticks would be THE way to go. After much after-thought I see the rationale behind this unpopular decision (to some):

QUOTE(InkySliwinky @ Jun 13 2009, 09:29 PM)
doesnt matter la .. so much for fair fight .. meh wasted rm14 ... they think every1 can afford arcade sticks meh .. my god .. not to mention 1 round .. lol facepalm sia ...
*
QUOTE(brastel @ Jun 14 2009, 02:33 AM)
Eh I didnt know about the 1 round thing. Thats kinda retarded LOL but hey this is an event of its own. SF4 Marathon w00t

Anyway yeah i might sound a lil bit harsh up there, of course its also a matter of preference. But I still believe that you cant get to get to your max potential playing on a pad and that a pro stick player can beat a pro pad player more often than the other way around. (no disrespect to leongteng n other pad users)
*
The idea of 1 round was tried, some like it and some didn't. The queue moved fast. I didn't like it, but played my best as if it's the finals to winning something. As I said, I didn't like it and many others didn't too. When they voiced it, after the lunch break it was switched to 3 rounds. You did not stay that long enough to find out?

QUOTE(InkySliwinky @ Jun 13 2009, 02:29 PM)
Lol just came back from there ... we were Forced to use arcade sticks la ... after 3 losses i got tired alrdy bcuz i was a complete sitting duck .. found it difficult to even pull out special moves let alone super and ultra...
*
Based on the first Cineleisure Sony tourney, and monthly mini-ones at Outpost, the constant need to change pads/sticks between games SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACTS the smooth flow of the event. Players have to reach out to the cabinet to unplug their sticks as they walked off, then the new player needs to reconfigure their controller number at the Accessories menu, then go back to title screen, then reconfig the buttons to ensure them working. All this, plus a restart to a match where at times lasts shorter than the config session.

Based on the above, imagine this still being practised in a marathon-themed session. Speed-gaming comes to mind here, and to ensure the queue moves faster than the participants losing patience. This is the best interest of the crowd.

I believe at a certain point, this evolution is needed - in order to ensure the standardization of how tourneys should be played. I personally met many DS3 players who accustomed themselves to the sticks and in fact witnessed very well-played games. Imagine if any major or national tournament is held, with the champion being able to represent Malaysia in any HK, Korean, SG, or Japanese tournament, and the winner uses a pad only - how would they fare? Would you ask international tourney officials if you can pair a DS3 with an XB360, or Vewlix cabinet?

And do share how you pull out Ultras on a pad? QCF x2 then SQUARE+TRIANGLE+L1? Or with CIRCLE+R1+R2? OR, QCF x2 + R2? Personally, on a stick I found it a lot easier to do it on 3 buttons sitting in a row to each other. But to each his own. No shortcuts allowed in tournaments as this constitutes to receiving input aids.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2o20QNMRcHU lol this video tends to say otherwise... in any case.. dont the arcade versions have less characters ?.. might save up for a TE later... dunno yet
*
The video is not really impressive, or proves any point - if this is your objective. And I do not see myself causing blistered fingers if I were to have any long sessions doing that. Would you like me to post videos of the advanced stick techniques mentioned by other posters here?

Honestly, a stick is not expensive if you know where to find and more importantly when to get it. Unless you are genuinely broke, inherited it or won it in some lucky draw, how did you manage to afford your PS3/360? I saved RM50 to RM100 for 4 months to get mine. It's not a must-own but will definitely come in handy to enhance your gameplay. Just like playing Rock Band II on instrument controllers, instead of strumming your shoulder buttons.

On the day before the tourney Alan phoned me asking if I can provide sticks. I told him my gameshop friend (Freddy.. the 3rd place Blanka player in the Cineleisure tourney) will be having stock as more will come soon on that day itself and the price would be reasonable (definitely less than the going price of RM400+ now).

A lot of phone calls were exchanged and in the end Sony will not sponsor 2 HRAP3 sticks as it's not their product - logically. So after more calls, Alan convinced his partners and decided to get it for his Outpost Cafe for future use. Then, Freddy got back to me saying stock is delayed and really apologized. So I passed the message to Alan and told him not to worry as I'll be loaning mine for the tourney and am pretty sure others can spare theirs too. Thanks to TristanX, WhatWhat, Darkstalker and Wongbrothers for sharing their HRAP3 and VSHG sticks to the public.

P.S. Alan sorry if we missed the desserts when the event was over. Was it after prize-giving? We were not aware actually but thanks a lot for the effort. Also, I think I made you guys look bad by selling water to the participants (made RM4 profit - yay!)... but everyone should know by then to prepare for a marathon event right? Plus it's not like we're in the middle of the desert or something biggrin.gif

And Alan's so right about Andrew. He was bugging the living hell of EVERYONE within 2 metres of him. He kept asking me about the things I was referring to OTHER people and just ask questions which has no answers to:

"How do you beat that Viper? Tell me.." (after I lost)
"Sagat also can lose???" (in your face after taking a good beating)
"Ryu can lose???"
"Your Rufus lost!"
"I really find problems doing Ultras with 3 buttons. I keep pressing 2 buttons max only".. or something like that
"That Cammy is copying me!!!!" (seeing a better Cammy in action)
"HEY! You can't be standing here!!" (to a stranger near our queue)
"Watch my place in the queue... I NEED to take picture with them!" (after the cosplayers come out)
"WHY must you perfect me???? I was just testing out Chun Li's moves. YOU KILLED MY CHUN LI!!!!!" (playing him for the score)
"HAHA! I got you now!" (I ate his random Ultra)

MAN.. this guy was so entertaining!!!!! But seriously he was very bothersome and no one told him off out of courtesy. Actually one of my friends did... but he came back and was his own self again.

P.S. I did not mean any offence to DS3 users in my previous posts. But people complaining about the tourney should understand the whole picture first before commenting, just like leongteng.

I'm signing up for the Shadaloo club. Don't forget that Seth's part of it too (cawangan S.I.N.) har har.

Hatred, you can be reborn with a new nickname... Anderoo From Shadaloo biggrin.gif

Alan, great job! Woah, Sony gave Outpost a 40" Bravia-Z. Very keen to know how SF4 looks like with the 200MHz Motion Flow™ turned on.

There was a kangaroo from Shadaloo,
Name wasn't Roger though punches like Boxer;
Then there's Andrew who's a psycho yahoo,
Can't shut up and plays like a masher;
His Ken met his end, by an ageing Gen,
By a long string combo - ending with Super.

Aside from that, sticks like this are perfect for wireless mods due to its compact size.

Hi Alan, are there any Transformers events on the 28th itself? 1st prize this one right? smile.gif

It's used to open up the 6 screws on the top panel, and once it's removed you have access to all the internals.

Hey.. Freddy sells TE sticks for RM680 now.. and I bought/sold mine for like RM850/RM800. Arggh. But I'm aiming for a HRAP3, I heard many units are on its way here by ship.. should cost definitely below RM400 smile.gif

The TE stick should be all newer batches already and definitely will cost lower since it won't be that 'limited' in the future. I bought mine for RM650 wink.gif Mine unit was number 8838

Mine shows 8838, and it's not the serial#. The first batches have them (<3000) and later ones do not. It should be in the Authenticity Cert i think.

I'm curious to know the internal workmanship on the first batches as when I opened mine, there were soldering burnt marks all over the metal plate. Took me a bit of time cleaning it so my hands won't be stained.

Hey Alan, I bought my tickets a week in advance just to get that sweet spot at Signatures' Hall 1. I watched T4 there and each time the Terminators appeared, the grinding and moving metal parts made the ground shake. WOW! And this week alone I'm rewatching the first movie completely with all bonus contents - I'm so hyped!

I'm actually quite the movie buff too, so please let us know if there's any special screenings so we can plan in advance! smile.gif

Here's my lesen:
Attached Image

On the SF mini-tourney, I'll try to call Freddy again later to check if stock has arrived. He said it's coming in via ship and not air freight so it'll take a bit longer.

Seimitsu bulk kakis... meet at Outpost this Sunday!!! Check my thread for the status.

And hey, check out the Fly.fm "Playa Got Game?" event this weekend too, same place @ Cineleisure. I wonder if there's any cool Tekken 5 players around?

Hey thanks Alan.. for sponsoring the prize from your personal collection, and free meal. I really like it and it feels very personal biggrin.gif

Win or lose, I still enjoyed the games - this being a monthly thing you have really put in a great effort to have a place for us to gather. The audio setup was very good! Each time a Balrog does his Ultra it really rocked the room.

My last 2 rounds gave me a great heart attack. The adrenaline pumping allowed my hands to think by itself! I kept on jumping at the Ryu player who had a great dragon punch reaction... maybe it was Jedi mind control? biggrin.gif I luckily won as he threw an Ultra at me which I knew I could jump/counter-Ultra thru - I don't think I stood a good chance anyway.

Fighting with good Giefs are my worst nightmare... and leongteng5 was a very feared match because he came in to the finals unbeaten and the few matches I had with him in the past showed that he had a better winning rate. And no, I didn't miss any of my moves... because my mind was scared until I didn't do anything biggrin.gif - and yeah bro I'm looking forward to play with you more smile.gif

All of you guys played really well today and it was really so fun. We need to learn from each other more. Thanks Alvin for being such a great guy taking the vids smile.gif
