greetings everyone, i have some problem

i have phillipine carpet grass around the yard of my house. it needs trimming every 2-3 weeks. I trim the grass with Black and Decker GL300 trimming tool. But i found that the machine can be used in short intervals, about 15-20 minutes, and mine was emitting smoke and the motor is too hot, and sort of slowed down (limp mode? i think)

is this normal? is the machine damaged somehow? what tools do you use to trim the grass?

another question, how to prevent excessive weed growth on the carpet grass? any suitable methods for my phillipines carpet grass?

yeah.. a bit too late to realize that fact 

need to buy a proper tool next time.

oh well. it's just the back yard area that the grass are growing a bit tall since the area is shady and damp, in the front yard the height seems to be ok.

do you have any methods to stop/reduce weeds from growing in the carpet grass area? i spent my last weekend cabut cabut all the weeds
