There's no Linux modem as far as I know. You can use any modem compatible with windows and install it as Standard Modem in Linux if you dont have the drivers.

something tells me that this Q arise because of the term "windows modem"/winmodem...!!!

as stated by p0ser, any internal/external modem will do... installation and setting up of the hardware is the same as any windows pc. setting up the software, tho, mayb a little different and difficult...

Your safest bet is to get an external modem. Stay away from the USB/PCI modems as they have little to no support under linux.

How to tell whether a modem is a non-winmodem?

Thanks for the lisk, I manage to use scanmodem program in the link above. Then I email the test result, the discussion group said my modem have no supported driver. sad.gif

Any recommendation if I want to buy new modem? Any benefit of USB? I'm trying SLAX now.

i have found somewhere that internal modem dont support linux. true or not. me is planning to get streamyx. actually what kind of modem that streamyx required? and is it compatable with linux. that stremyx modem use usb conection to our pc? sweat.gif
